That just really seems like people don't like Kelly which we know can't be the case lol.

That just really seems like people don't like Kelly which we know can't be the case lol. In reality, many artists just do not want to be vocally outshone on a duet. Yes, Kelly is an amazing duet partner and harmonizer, who has no problem taking a backseat to support another vocalist, yet she still will always find her moment to remind people who she is, and it's because of that (i think) that female vocalists are reluctant to team up. For male artists (think pop/rap), I think Kelly's lack of overt sexiness that might hold them back.

On a plus side, if you look at her actual hits and compare them to other top divas removing songs where they were a guest or had a guest, KC's catalog shows that she doesn't need features. That plus I'm sure when P!nk and Gaga didn't respond on her tweet (to record "Dance With Me" for the PxP album), I bet she was kind of embarrassed. But really, given all of her success and impact in the biz, how are so many of them just going to blow her off by ignoring or saying they're "too busy" to do anything. And RCA is partially to blame for not making it happen during her first 14 years.

Listening to Kelly cover The Climb just makes me think about what kind of hits she could have had on the country charts if she had recorded some stuff like this. It may not hit in today’s climate but back in the day she would have done really well with that song, IMO. It’s a great song.
I also listened to her Lauren Daigle cover, which is one of my favorites this season, and you can tell a distinct difference in the audio quality compared to her more recent stuff. They really upped their game with these covers recently.

Loved her version of linger, especially when she sings "honey so did you". Makes me wonder. Also, never really cared for There she goes, until Kelly covered it and that's probably been one of my favorites recently. I don't think there's anything she can't sing. And she looks so beautiful. I'm gonna say Brandon doinked the babysitter...lol

That just really seems like people don't like Kelly which we know can't be the case lol. I think it’s partially due to (as others were saying) other artists not wanting to be outshone vocally. But also Kelly has never really had the “cool” factor. For a hot minute she was THE pop girl but even then many saw her as a little cheesy. And that’s just fine with me; I love her all the same.

Great video/interview. This lady (who's obviously a fan) breaks down Kelly's vocals and Kelly agreed a lot. Cool to see KC's reaction to that.

EXCUSE ME "FLY LIKE A BIRD" HOLD THE F***ING PHONE!!! Y'all, please prepare yourselves. The lyrics of this song could not be more fitting for a closer to this season (if it is in fact the last episode until the fall) and her life right now. If you do not know the original... THE ENDING. Let me prepare so I dont damage my place. LMAO

Can Kelly please just go ahead and throw in the whistle note at the end. Haven’t we waited long enough for her to bust one out again? And she isn’t doing this live so she can give it a few takes if she needs to! Please! Lol And if I find out the song is actually Fly Like a Bird by Nelly Furtado then there will be hell to pay. ................................................ I thought about this as well, but didn't say anything because Nelly's song is "I'm Like A Bird" and Mariah's is "Fly Like A Bird." Welp.

Someone has to pay for this! Who is responsible?!
Lmao. I couldn’t help but laugh, though.

OOF! I promise it said Mariah's song. I have proof! hahaha It makes sense that it was Nelly's though, since they are using the line "I'm free, like a bird" to push Peacock TV and that's basically what this song today was for. Attachment DeletedGreat video/interview. This lady (who's obviously a fan) breaks down Kelly's vocals and Kelly agreed a lot. Cool to see KC's reaction to that. I enjoyed that too. Kirk Franklin was also on that episode and I got a kick out of him telling her that he could tell she sang gospel before because "her throat got some Sunday morning on it." ha

Wonder what song or songs Kelly is going to tackle from the new Chicks album? 👀 She did say she almost did Gaslighter instead of Cowboy Take Me Away for the show.

I couldn't help but think of Kelly while listening to Gaslighter. It's an album of divorce songs by Texas women we know Kelly stans. I hope she's liking it.

I want to hear the original demo pitched to Kelly more than Kelly's demo. I've always been intrigued on how the original version of the song was bubblegum pop and was pitched to Hilary Duff before Kelly. Like... how the hell does some bubblegum pop track pitched to Metamorphosis era Hilary Duff wind up coming out as what we all know now as Kelly Clarkson's pop/rock anthem "Since U Been Gone"? How in the world did that song sound anywhere close to being appropriate for Hilary Duff? Definitely one of the most elusive and intriguing demos out there IMO.

You can *really* hear the “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs influence in that demo (particularly the guitar during the chorus).

That demo still gives an idea of what vocal track they were initially expecting--the bridge being down an octave, the chorus not quite hitting the same highs, the random octave jump in the second verse. You can kind of piece together what notes they were expecting Hillary to hit and then Kelly came in and blew the lid off it.

The second verse is what really threw me. The softer upper octave to contrast the first verse felt really weird.

I remember Kelly saying a decade later that the demo she heard didn't really have words in some spots and when the label said 'but it's got a great melody!' she and her manger were like '...but there kind of isn't a melody' lol. So we know that even this scratch vocal for SUBG had to be a good bit away from whatever Kelly heard first. But my guess is that the original non-Kelly demo probably sounded a LOT like a So Yesterday clone: one octave range, very flat production throughout, and no buildup or volume dynamics whatsoever. In fact I wouldn't doubt SUBG and So Yesterday were in an either/or battle for a spot on Hilary's album (they share similar subject matter) and Hilary picked the one that was easier for her to handle.

Or those demos Kelly sent you herself? Get a life
