New Country Releases: April 2020 - Results Time!
Our first round of New Country Releases rankdowns is now officially closed!!!! Thank you so much to everybody who submitted; it looks like we are officially going to be able to call this series a success if every round continues to be as popular as this one We made it to 22 participants, which is great for a country rankdown imo :)
I am really excited for this one for a number of reasons. First of all, I made several excellent discoveries on this list, and I am WAY more excited for modern country than I have been since at least 2015/2016, when I was doing a much better job of following new releases. Second, the results were really fun to watch from my perspective. We had several very solid #1 contenders here, some of which might surprise you! In fact, almost our entire top 5 held the #1 position for a period of 5 or more lists in a row Finally, the 3rd reason is that none of these songs have been in rankdowns before, so this is really their first chance to show their strength among us country voters!! The results might be quite unpredictable for some. Final Participants: (22) 1. Darkest Hour2. someguy3. gardyfan4. George Strait Junkie5. @xfer6. bboat117. ClevelandRox8. tim9. castleoblivion2610. taylor11. .indulgecountry12. austin13. kw946114. SHOOTER15. DistrictTwelve16. HeyHeyHey17. ladyđfan18. BBđ19. LBTrocks20. fearlessarrow21. If anybody else would like to be tagged to follow along, please let me know!
Questions to get us started:
1. What will be #1?
2. What will be #25?
3. What else will be in the top 5?
4. What else will be in the bottom 5?
5. What will be most polarizing? Least?
6. Which Dolly tribute will do better: Lainey Wilson's "WWDD" or Pam Tillis' "Dolly 1969"?
7. How high will Kenny Rogers get with his posthumous final single, "Goodbye"?
8. How long will it be before we lose a female song?
9. What or who was your favorite discovery of this rankdown?
10. Any other thoughts/predictions?

I'll go ahead and answer #9. For me personally, I am quickly falling in love with both Lainey Wilson and Sykamore thanks to this list. Lainey's spunky energy on "WWDD" got me checking out her YouTube channel, and y'all she is freaking hilarious!!! She is 100% the type of personality that this genre needs right now. And for Sykamore, I just think she has a really cool voice. Smooth tone, excellent sense of inflection and pitch, etc. I am so excited to see what the future holds for her when they decide to give her a real push.

Sorry guys! We have been watching my uncleâs dogs over the weekend while he was out of town, and he just got back into town. Rather than make him come to us like we planned, my family decided we were going to drive into Seattle to take them back to him right when I was about to start reveals â°ïž Weâre on the freeway now heading back home.
To;dr - Reveals coming within the hour!! đ

Bowing out first is, to no surprise, Luke Bryan!! A solid wall of SEVEN last place ranks and 14 bottom-5 ranks helped keep this one firmly at the bottom for most of the submissions. Luke Bryan has made a few good songs, but his superstardom continues to baffle me. He is one of the weakest vocalists country music has ever had, imo. I never feel any emotional connection to his vocals whatsoever. He basically sings like a bland, vanilla robot. "One Margarita" is not a song that I hate melodically, but he certainly does not elevate it to anything worth listening to, imo... Someone like mid-00s Blake Shelton could have made this a fun, feel-good song. Luke, not so much

Phew! This song has maybe grown on me just a tad bit more, but thatâs not saying much at all. Luke Bryanâs output overall has to be one of the weakest from any mainstream country artist of this era...and he fails to even show the slightest bit of growth or maturity with this material.

One Margarita actually kind of clicked when doing this, which it hadn't before (not that I will be seeking this song out, I just don't think I'll be loathing it as much)- but everything else was so good (excluding my #24 that I didn't want to put in last place for obvious reasons đŹ) so it was the only option for last for me.
Cool Again might actually be my favorite Kane single since Heaven, I just never got into Homesick.

Luke Bryan is one of the most disappointing artist to follow. I loved his debut album, and his independent album he released prior to "I'll Stay Me". Everything past that is just meh. He's had some good songs here and there but most of the albums are forgettable and half of his songs are trash. This song isn't the worst thing he's ever done but it is still forgettable.
Can we get more "We Rode In Trucks", "The Car In Front of Me", and "Do I", and less "Country Girl", "Knockin' Boots", "Play It Again", and "Kick the Dust Up" please!

Admittedly I didnât dislike âCool Againâ much on my first listen, but considering that I canât even remember a single thing about the song now I can say I definitely overranked it.

This is a great point that bothers me about Luke. He never shows any growth whatsoever. Literally the only sign he has ever given us of any kind of artistic maturity whatsoever is deciding to stop releasing the annual Spring Break EPs when he turned like 45 đ

"Cool Again" is easily the weakest single he's put to radio so far, and it's made all the more disappointing knowing they moved on to this in a hurry and left incredible cuts like "For My Daughter" and "It Ain't You It's Me" unreleased. So blah. :/

Kane Brown ultimately beat Luke Bryan by a measly two points Our #23 song has an over 70 point lead on Kane's song here. That's how solid our bottom 2 was "Cool Again" is just very forgettable, lightweight, fluffy radio fodder that is not worth listening to. His talent is wasted, for sure. The lyrics are bland, as well as the production. And the melody is not even slightly catchy to me. Easy last place ranker for me!
