Glad some of the stragglers (looking at you Flops, LBTrocks) are starting to trickle in because this is one of the best lists we've had in this series since it began and it would've been a shame to have a low turnout for it.

It's probably no surprise that Kidd G is showing up in last place, based on the discussions that transpired earlier last month when the list was posted However, despite it being my last place, I honestly do not hate this nearly as much as I expected! It's not nearly as bad as some of the last-places we have had. ("Where the Country Girls At" comes to mind, lmao). Still, this could barely be called "country".

Yeah, at first I thought this Jewel song had one of the worst vocals I have ever heard in my life... The voice-crack runs in the chorus don't even TRY to be in-tune Darius Rucker added a lot of warmth to the second-half of the song, however, and I actually enjoyed a lot of their harmonies near the end, which is the only reason it managed to escape my bottom 5.

Hayden Joseph was a must-have this month to a couple different people who really connect with "Book Beside My Bed" earlier this spring. That being said, "I'm Not There Yet" has none of the things that made "Book" such a moving song, imo. Hayden's voice was easily the worst part of "Book". I mean, he's not bad, so it was still fine in his hands, but I remember thinking something about what an amazing song it would be if a more engaging balladeer like Reba had gotten a hold of it. But when it comes to "I'm Not There Yet", there isn't really anything to make it stand out. It is a generic song sung by a generic voice.

"God Made Airplanes" is better than average for Jason Aldean. The hook is really stupid on its own imo, but the song does build it up well with context.

This is a pleasing song from Jason Aldean from a melodic standpoint, but "God Made Airplanes" has such a moronic hook.

Kidd G has such an awful voice that pretty much anything he sings is going to turn to crap for me. “People Talk” has a pretty catchy beat, but I ‘d need a different vocalists and different lyrics to appreciate the song lol
The Jewel/Darius song was pretty terrible lol.
Hayden Joseph has a really putrid voice, like I prefer Kidd G’s voice 😂 . But the melody of this song was pretty good! Not good enough to override this dudes voice tho lol
“God Made Airplanes” has a chorus I quite like but the verse just ain’t cutting it for me.

I'm sad that Jewel is so underappreciated. I think she easily has one of the best and most emotive voices in the music industry so I'm sad she did so poorly with her Freewheelin' Woman songs. 😫
Not surprised Hayden flopped this month since the competition was much stronger and I agree that this song is less standout worthy compared to "Book" from a lyrical standpoint, but I like him and it's nice to have more gay artists in the genre.

"College Town" was the definition of 'meh.' It wasn't bad per se, just really forgettable in a list this strong.

"College Town" was 🌺CountryLineDancer 's request this month, and yet it didn't even manage to make his top 2!!! Oh well, he saved himself from an early #1 loss this time, so congrats for that 😂 There is something about the writing of "College Town" that holds it back from reaching its maximum potential imo. The song acts like it is all about hating a college town, but all of the descriptions are about all the good memories that happened there. It would make total sense for this to use the trope of "I used to love this place, but now I hate it because we broke up and there are too many good memories here". But if you listen to the words, it doesn't go that direction at all! Literally, the entire song is just describing what a positive experience living in the town was, then saying "I didn't want to leave. I wish you didn't have to stay." THEN WHY THE f**k DID YOU LEAVE!!!!!!! 😂😂😂 "Maybe we would have worked out, if it wasn't for that college town." There is literally nothing here that justifies that hook. You both loved the town, loved each other, and wanted to stay there....so.....then you left her there for no reason and blamed the town for your breakup?! The logic is nonexistent. I put way too much thought into this. But don't think I dislike the song! I do enjoy it a fair amount! It just does not reach its maximum potential because of the sloppy writing, but that doesn't mean I dislike the melody or anything. It is also competing with a lot of strong songs this month, so. Edit: I suppose it could be relatable if he is in the military or something, and like got ordered to a new station or something and she wasn't able to leave because she had settled down and loved the town and her job and stuff and just couldn't drop everything to go with him. But, the song offers literally nothing of substance to describe such a situation, so even though I have found a way to make the hook make sense, it is still underwritten at best.

bboat11 maybe it is reflected in the lines Do "you still order up Patron/And wish that tab was mine/There's a part of me that thinks you don't/And maybe that's why", which implies a third person ruined the relationship.

bboat11 maybe it is reflected in the lines Do "you still order up Patron/And wish that tab was mine/There's a part of me that thinks you don't/And maybe that's why", which implies a third person ruined the relationship. In light of the lines right before it, to me that section is implying that she is so pretty and/or well-liked that random people always are buying her drinks, so she is always able to get tipsy without having to pay for anything herself...but back in the day the narrator would have been the one paying for those drinks, and now he is wondering if she ever misses those days, but he sometimes imagines that she doesn't. But keep in mind that entire scenario is taking place in his head! So basically he hates the town because he's built up in his imagination the idea that everyone is buying her drinks so she has no reason to miss him! I don't sense another specific individual in those lines. He imagines the bar is full, he imagines people are buying her drinks, he imagines that she probably doesn't miss him because she can get her drinks from other people, etc. Which honestly all makes this guy even more pathetic than I thought at first 😂 There is nothing tangible about their breakup here, it is literally just him imagining her going out and not missing him and getting jealous at the thought.

30. This can probably compete with AA as the worst song in the whole rankdown series. Just cringy rap with some terrible lines such as "'Fore I TMZ a picture of her sister gettin' nailed" 29. Unfortunately I don't feel vocals are a strong suit for Darius Rucker either. This would not last 30 seconds on singing reality competition television shows. 28. Why does he have to sing in such a dragging way? I get LGBTQ representations in country music but quality precedes identity. 27. I just listened to GEORGIA and it is just a typical song from his heartbreak theme trope. 26. At least this is decent musically. I actually don't really want to spend too much time to analyze the lyrics of a pop country song.

All this talk about "College Town" lyrics made me think of something that really irked me about a lyric in "People Talk" which is nothing but overly-convoluted teenage drama anyway, but the line 'You got your best friend's boyfriend cheating" ummm, no, quick fact check... the boyfriend got himself cheating. I mean, the girl's friend may also be a backstabbing ho, but I'm not here for putting the blame solely on her or giving the guy any kind of pass. No one can make someone cheat, they do that on their own and its on them. I feel like that line was supposed to be some deep oh shit moment, but really it was just dumb, like the rest of the song is lol. Forgot to comment on this when the song was revealed.
And I tend to agree with recorder in regards to Hayden, his voice just isn't good at all. I'm all for LGBTQ+ artists making it and being accepted in country music, but I have to like your vocals and music at the end of the day. I'm not against him finding success or anything, but I'm not particularly rooting for him either.

Shame that Katy Perry's country debut collaboration was wasted on Thomas Rhett at his most painfully average. Although the more I listen to this one the more I think there might be a decent song in here that is buried underneath an absolutely god-awful arrangement.
