"Outlaw Love" just didn't initially stand out to me while I was completing my list for this (and I still had to give it a listen just now to remember how it went). I also don't really watch music videos much anymore, so now I'm kicking myself for not doing so sooner because I for sure would've place this one higher if I had only known.

Thanks to a pair of #1s from myself and Kanenrá:ke, Brooke Eden manages to win a tie-breaker and sneak into the top 5. Which also ties "Left You For Me" for her best showing in this series so far! I just love her voice so much, especially with all the fire she has brought to her recent couple of EPs, and this song has such a killer melody on top of it. Easily the song that has been stuck in my head the most from this list, so it was an easy #1 for me. I really hope she keeps giving us new EPs every few months now that she seems to be finding plenty of artistic inspiration lately!

Aside from "Mary, Did You Know" back in the 2021 Christmas rankdown, Carly Pearce has never missed the top 2! So she is absolutely one of the hottest artists in this entire series, to the point where this #4 is a step back for her! For Chris Stapleton, this is now his second highest feature, and also matches his highest solo finish with "Cold" at #4.
"We Don't Fight Anymore" just has a tendency to plod a bit, but imo it's still a pretty good song. It's only disappointing by Carly's standards, but will still easily have a spot in my top 40 in a year-end rankdown.

Finally. This deserved to snap her top 2 streak. It's grow on me some admittedly, but the verse melody is so lethargic and painful to get through, and Stapleton's harmonizing is terrible on the chorus and just derails what little momentum the song could've had (since the chorus melody is actually good). Such a misfire after a pair of back-to-back A+ bangers at country radio.

"We Don't Fight Anymore" is a fine enough song, but yea I'm a bit bewildered by the fact that this is what they chose to send to country radio as the lead-off single for her upcoming project.

Tim McGraw has not quite managed to win this series yet, but this is his fourth top 5 finisher. It also matches the #3 finish of the lead single from this current project, "Standing Room Only"!
I saw an article recently where Tim was talking about how the first take of this song happened late at night after a long day when his voice was completely shot, but no matter how many times they went back to redo it, they just kept coming back to the rawness of that first attempt. So that's what hey ended up going with! I definitely noticed his voice was slightly rough here, but I think it adds nice character to this song, especially now that I know the backstory!

Okay good, so long as it wasn't Carly or Tim winning. I don't care which of these two win. Both are phenomenal, for very different reasons, lol.

Ashley McBryde, Lauren Alaina, and Lainey Wilson are all perennial favorites in this series, so seeing them competing for the victory is probably not a surprise. What is a surprise is that out of all Lainey Wilson's incredible finishes, this is actually her FIRST trip to the top!!! So regardless of how you feel about this song, that's quite an awesome thing to see finally happen!

Brooke Eden ought to have won this. “Outlaw Love” hit me hard, especially that chorus. It was like saying to her lover, “Even if our marriage rights get taken away again by the Supreme Court, I’m gonna find a way around it, because you will always be mine.” The way things keep going backward, it wouldn’t in the least bit shock me to see Obergefell v. Hodges get overruled somehow, and I’m determined to keep my future love in my life one way or another, so it just deeply resonated, in much the same way Hayden Joseph (albeit differently) with “See Me.”
”We Don’t Fight Anymore” is amazing, I said what I said. As a lead single it’s bewildering, but Carly is such a top-notch voice imo and Stapleton has never gone wrong with me, and I think his kind of voice suits the kind of emotions talked about in the song.
“Standing Room Only” did so well with me, and then Tim’s momentum dropped like a rock with “Hey Whiskey.” I can’t remember how it even goes, which SRO is not a victim of.
As much as I have a case for Brooke Eden winning, you can’t go wrong with this Top 2 and I wouldn’t have been quite upset with either. I still have yet to listen to either of these women’s new projects in full, which I need to get on ASAP!!!

If nuggie99 didn't send, Learned to Lie would have deservingly won. Tremendous emotional impact especially in the line "I wish I learned how to loce the same way I learn to lie".
Thicc as Thieves is not a bad winner though. They manage to sample Country Girl without being too cringy. Also really like the fun reference to their feature.

Thicc as Thieves is not a bad winner though. They manage to sample Country Girl without being too cringy. Also really like the fun reference to their feature. My tastes run contrary to this board's tastes on many songs. I'm a little (lot) older than y'all I think, plus other factors. Outlaw Love -- Just not for me. We Don't Fight Anymore -- I like Carly Pearce and I mostly like Stapleton. This just didn't click for me though. Hey Whiskey -- I like Tim McGraw in the early days (What Room was the Holiday In? early days) but I've fallen in the intervening years. This is pretty good though. (I went to Thomas Rhett concert the night this was released, one of his band members was co-writer on it) Learned to Lie -- This was good musically very good. The lyrics were just too depressing for me. Might have hit a little too close to home, maybe? Thicc as Thieves -- This is just silly, but I love it. (I dislike "Country Girl Shake it for Me" but it worked here) Hopefully this (the solo version) can hit at radio.
