I was NOT expecting Dillon Carmichael to make the top 5; a sentiment which I am sure is echoed by literally everybody. But here we are! This is a fun, summery celebration about how we all have problems that can be solved by drinking. Possibly not the healthiest coping mechanism, but it's a classic country theme that feels quite fresh to me against the monotony of modern country radio! Also, I can hear Dillon's relation to Eddy Montgomery here way more than ever before! This song sounds like classic Montgomery Gentry imo.

This may be a thought that only I have had, but I really felt a Reba influence in this opening verse... I don't feel Reba in the chorus, but something about that opening verse was channeling Reba hard!!!
Edit: OMG FLOPS!

I like That Dog. Joseph Gallant had a song with a smilar theme recently. But this one was a bit better.

Tiera was a major contender here, hanging out in the top 3 for most of the submission process, and even being our most consistent #2 contender for awhile! This song is fun, but I was a little surprised to see how extreme the love was! It felt like one that would possibly be a top 10 contender, but probably finish between like #15 and #7 like what usually happens for Brooke Eden, Callista Clark, Lauren Alaina, Tenille Arts, etc.

"Jesus, My Mama, My Therapist" is such a HUGE bop. It's such an insatiably catchy melody and the entire premise of the song is so clever. There's been so many small town songs talking about how you can't trust people to not gossip about your personal business, but this really takes it to the next level by talking about how she sidesteps that and just goes to the 3 people who she knows won't let the cat out of the bag. Brilliant songwriting. And her vocal performance is just sunny perfection. It's the kind of blissful delivery that I always loved from someone like Kellie Pickler.

Having 2 of the same 3 folks as Mama, Dolly, Jesus by Madeline Edwards might draw comparisons but Madeline wants you keep your opinions to yourself and Tiera doesn't trust you not to blab. Otherwise, completely different vibes. Liked this one, too

Heart They Didn't Break is great, hope they can hit at radio again. (Every Night and Every Morning was good too)
Hailey Whitters is great too. This one has great lyrics and word play.

Shocking upset! Hailey really ran away with this one and while I'm not totally surprised because I know she's becoming pretty popular on Pulse, I wasn't really expecting her to pull it off against a juggernaut like M&T. Both of these are great songs, but "I'm in Love" is one that I come back to more and it's just so damn catchy. "Heart They Didn't Break" is a gorgeous song though, and I'm gutted it looks like it's going to be a total flop for them at radio. That said, it's fairly thematically similar to their last mega smash, but without the same radio catchiness, so I'm still a bit puzzled by their long hiatus from radio only to come back with... this. It's a good song, but they needed an easy hit.

I went into this list expecting Maddie & Tae to be the obvious winners, but I forgot that Hailey Whitters has proven to be unbeatable when she has a certified jam...and I didn't quite realize yet just how much of a jam "I'm In Love" was! This song is catchy as hell!! I LOVE the simple writing overall, stating "____ is in ____" to juxtapose with the fact that the narrator is in love. Like "corn's in the ground, and I'm in love." 😂 It just adds to the overall catchiness.
About Maddie & Tae, it's so nice to have them back on the radio with another banger! PLEASE become a hit!!! My favorite thing about this one is that Tae finally takes the lead on part of it I always love Maddie's voice and Tae's harmonies. Lord knows they've got such a magical chemistry with their usual arrangement. But I have always been curious how Tae would sound on lead, and I'm not gonna lie, my jaw dropped when I heard it happen for the first time... There is like a warm, syrupy, rich, and deep resonance to her voice that I was NOT expecting! She has such a HUGE range in all her harmonies, including frequently belting higher than Maddie to harmonize with her, so I was not expecting her to have such natural low resonance to her voice when singing lead. It's not even like she is an alto like Terri Clark or Trisha Yearwood. She can very easily sing in the same keys as Maddie. But I think she's more of a Faith Hill-style mezzo, who has a natural low resonance but as we all know can project her soul directly into the rafters when she decides it's time to start belting... Now I'm very curious if Tae has similar capabilities
I guess I expected her to be a mezzo, but not quite as much of a naturally-low-resonating mezzo like Faith Hill.

Well yeah... why would I do it earlier, when I can procrastinate on doing it until bboat11 finishes revealing July? In all seriousness, he did tell me that he would give anyone who wanted to submit for August a couple days after finishing revealing July. So I knew I had time.

I love you bboat11 , but the rest of this year is a wash. Can we can we just move on to Christmas new realeasess? I really have no interest in trying to go back over the new releases over the last four months. Well if we're skipping I always vote we skip Xmas. Anyway, August is already a thing that most submitted for I believe and I think bboat11 and .indulgecountry have a plan to get caught up. I wouldn't mind potentially skipping like one month, however.

I actually think 30 songs for September + October + November are possible.

I will be posting lists for September and October soon to take submissions and will likely do a combined Nov + Dec as in years past. Honestly, if anything gets skipped at this point, the Xmas releases are the thing more likely to get the chop imo. bboat11 can make a decision on whether she still wants to do them or not, but I'll be carrying the rest of 2023's regular releases out. If tim or anyone else wants to skip any of them, that's on y'all. We can complain about the delay in results, but the turnout for RDs continues to decrease across the board so it's not just us to blame, and the Xmas set usually gets the lowest turnout so, lol.

I missed the result completely, but looks like it went pretty bad, although my night was already bad after MacKenzie Porter had to cancel her show, so the RD reveal didn't hurt me much lmao. Still, I am not complaining that Hailey Whitters became the winner of the game after all, as I'm In Love is such a cute song and it is nice to see the song getting traction on the radio already, especially since I have been rooting for her forever.
Regardless, I am happy that this series is back, and appreciate that Indulge is stepping in to keep the ball rolling. Not sure what the hosting plans are after the YE, but if we were to rotate the hosting duties every other month or so, I would be happy to step in and host sometimes in the summer; my job does not allow me to commit to hosting many RDs in the winter, but I am willing to take part in my fav RD series in some way, and I think I am relatively punctual when it comes to the reveal.

I apologize y’all as my message from yesterday came over as a little cross. Sometimes my attempt to express my pragmatism can be misconstrued as I have nothing but the upmost respect for the work and time bboat11 has put into not just this series but everything else. Hosting in the games community really is a selfless thing as we do it for the love of the genre. Along with that, everyone who takes the to both participate and comment along in the rankdowns is also doing it out of joy. I think of everyone in the Tractor community as friends and I just want to make sure we’re all respecting the time both the hosts and participants put into these rankdowns. Again, my apologies to both .indulgecountry and bboat11. Looking forward to continuing on with the series.
