I hope it isn't sacrilegious for me to say this, but......I actually think I prefer Randall's version of this to Alan's original?!!?! I remember back when Alan's version of this was a single back in like 2017ish and I could never remember how it went... Randall's of course has the advantage of me letting the melody grow on me for the past 6-7 years, but for some reason I just find this one to be much more hooky on first impression than I ever found Alan's version. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy Alan's now! But I doubt it would have been in my top 5 in this list.
Randall was actually our most consistent #2 contender this month, and even climbed up to #1 about 5 lists from the end! But alas, some last-minute love for another song caused it to be bumped back to #3...

Uhh, taylor is terrified you ok? Anyway, "Cab In A Solo' is a modern day masterpiece. The melody and instrumentation are stellar, and that hook lives rent free in my mind every day. I'm usually a Scotty detractor, but this one is just out of this world good. The best song he's ever recorded, for sure. Glad Carly didn't win. I love the melody of 'Country Music Made Me Do It" but as usual, I wish someone else sang it cuz I've never liked Carly. Anyway, glad the right song won!!! |

So I think the "country music made me do it, and I'll do it 'til I die" hook is really strong, and could have made for a CLASSIC song! Unfortunately, the song that is actually surrounding that hook is forgettable and doesn't quite live up to its potential. I do like it, but yeah, I thought the Scotty vs. Randall top 2 that we were shaping up to have for almost the entire rankdown was a LOT more interesting....
But never fear, "Cab In a Solo" was the song to beat for nearly the entire rankdown! Aside from taylor is terrified's dissenting vote and two that barely had it outside the top 10, this song had top 5 power from EVERYONE else, so this was pretty much a foregone conclusion from the beginning! I love this song, so it was an easy #1 for me this month. I could hear George Strait having a huge hit with this one and I'd love it even more than Scotty's, but as far as modern country radio releases go, this is about as good as it gets! |

Thank you so much for all your patience the last few months! With that, I am officially passing the baton to .indulgecountry for the September and October reveals! I'm gonna work on a recap of July and August real quick, but then it's officially his ballgame. Our goal is to have those two revealed by the end of December, skip the Christmas rankdown, and then we will be completely back on track heading into 2024!!!!  (We always combine November and December anyway, and have them due at the end of January.) |

Eh, that was quite a disappointing finish for me. Carly’s song was just ok and I can’t stand Scotty’s. I really don’t know what it is y’all are hearing in his song, unfortunately. I maintain that Carrie deserved the win here. Of every song featured, it was the most memorable and if she had better momentum, I could see it being a huge radio hit. Thank God the Carly song didn't coast to a victory. What a mid song. She has wonderful top-tier music, but this doesn't feel like anything above like... 8th-best song on an album material, lol.
Scotty's song is a country music masterpiece though as mentioned above. Glad to see a win for "Cab" here given the options.

Wow,, got them all on one day. I was on my phone and didn't want to try to type this out on there. Here we go:
For songs I don't list, the review is "This was ok. Did not turn me off, didn't turn me on."
Rich Men North of Richmond-- The politics of it didn't bother me (no need to rehash all that). The music and the voice didn't do much for me, though. Add in the cuss words and it slides to the bottom.
Good with Me- This is a Walker Hayes song. What I mean my that is a few years back I posted on Facebook that I had taken my daughter to se one of the Chipmunks movies. Someone asked me how it was. It's a Chipmunks movie, you know what you got. Same here.
Find Another Bar-- Priscilla Block called and asked for her song back. But seriously, an ok song. just kinda there.
27 Club-- I actually liked this, but the language bumped it down towards the bottom.
We Should Get Married-- More of this, D+S. Big Let's Go to Vegas vibes. Really good.
Walkin' Shoes-- Really enjoyed this one.
Brought Me-- Not as good as Chipping Mill, but still pretty good.
How I Learned to Pray-- I love Luke Combs and like Charlie Worsham (kinda sad he's Dierks's sideman, but happy he's making a good living, hopefully) Really nice slice of life/growing up song.
Cold Summer in San Antone-- I saw John Morgan open for Jason Aldean, Hardy and Lainey Wilson a few ears back and he really stole the show for me. Nice traditional country, as is this song (Of course if I asked myself what John gives that 10 other young white dudes don't... probably would not have a good answer for that...)
A Few Hearts Ago-- This is one of her better efforts, but I still don't care for Kylie Morgan's voice.
The Painter-- I love CoJo, but I like the rowdier Honky Tonk songs better than the poignant love sings. This was nice though.
Highway Cry-- This was a good song from ABBY.
I Remember Everything--In a couple of rankdowns, We'll hear Taylor Swift by Walker Hayes, make the girl a little older and change to Zach Bryan and that's me. This is fine, but not really my cup of tea.
How Do I Do This-- Too pop for my tastes. Add in the language and a low vote from me.
The One You're Waiting One-- Yeah, this is really good. Country through and through, just the way I like it.
Country Music Made Me Do It-- This was a good hook, and I like Carly.
Cab in a Solo-- The instruments are great, Scooter's voice is great, the hook is great. A little That Ain't My Truck but with a little more oomph that makes it stand out. The only thing that I don't like is what happens after the song is over? Does Scotty drive home drunk? Pull a Doug Supernaw with a 2x2? Pull a Porter Wagonner Cold Hard Facts of Life? Just sleep it off in the pickup? I need to know!

This one put up a fight for that last place position with Randy Houser. This one had the benefit of not being tanked *quite* as mercilessly, but it also only had 1 top 10 to its name (sorry austin, but even he highlighted it as a guilty pleasure when he submitted his list, so he likely knew) vs. the three for Houser. My take on this is that Leah is a gem and I wish she could've had more success, but Jerrod, otoh, is someone who I do not even remotely miss hearing from. |

Divisive country artist Walker Hayes shows up in the bottom 3 where he often finds himself in these things. The father-daughter anthem named after the biggest music star on the planet fought with Randy and Leah/Jerrod over last place, as all ended up relatively close in points and traded places often. Ultimately, this one snuck ahead in part thanks to austin who once again suffers another heavy loss with his #2 bowing out. There's a 35-point gap now between this one and the next-highest song. |

Cancel-- This one has been sung live and on the gram for a while. Always liked Randy.
South of the Border-- This was ok, didn't excite me or bother me.
T-swizzle-- i mentioned before that this reminds me of my daughter, except she's 16 (now, 14 when we started) and it's Zach Bryan and Bailey Zimmerman. But it's still Walker Hayes so middle score.
