I must say, I think August was the best month so far of 2020 for new releases in terms of quality. Just about every song on this list was great and really the only problems I had were with the bottom 5, but even then most of those were at least good and/or tolerable. A number of songs in my Top 10 wound up in my playlist, particularly my #1 which I must say is the best song I've heard from that artist thus far. Excited to see how this month plays out!

Dan + Shay last place, what a beautiful sight! I know "I Should Probably Go To Bed" isn't well liked but I am surprised to see SO many last place rankings! Pleasantly so, of course lol.
Their vocals on this are just so incredibly grating to me (more-so than usual which is saying a lot) it really makes the vocal arrangement grating as well, and kills any potential the actual melody might otherwise have. And an added little annoyance for me is that the song (and them in general tbh) really don't have any business being on the country format.

Surprising absolutely no one, Dan + Shay's latest contribution to mediocrity bows out first! There was absolutely no competition here. This song managed to escape last place very briefly due to ClevelandRox being one of the earliest submitters, but otherwise it held down the fort in last place with ease. In the end, it finished almost 100 points lower than the #19 song, which is an insane gap considering how small this rankdown is 😂 Fifteen people ranked it correctly, while four others had it in their bottom 6..... And yet despite that consistency, it did not manage to have the smallest standard deviation!! That is undoubtedly ClevelandRox's impact 😂 |

As a huge Dan + Shay fan I can't get over how disappointing this lead single is, very much the worst song in the list by a wide margin.

The amount of bottom ranks is actually a bit impressive considering this song isn’t even glaringly and embarrassingly terrible, just really boring.

Darius Rucker's new song may be turning into a sizable hit, but there was very little love for it in this rankdown! Call it a victim of the fact that this playlist is so strong, but this song would have been an easy runaway last place contender if it hadn't had the luck of sharing a rankdown with Dan + Shay's new song! It was pretty much always our #19.
I don't dislike it, but it is definitely nothing special. It'll be neat to see how well future new releases from him can do at least, since new music is on the horizon!

These reveals are getting painful really quickly, imo! We have been robbing from peoples' top 3 with every new reveal... Clay Walker's latest song bows out next, and this one definitely hurts a bit. I've never been a huge Clay Walker fan by any means, but I have come to really love that guitar lick that drives this song! That lick is so catchy, and SO full of personality. This song deserved better than bottom 3 for the arrangement alone!!! And also, after Clay managed to make the top 15 in the May rankdown, it feels like this one should have done a bit better here...

There it is, our first female song, and our least polarizing song!! The vast majority of us put Lainey Wilson in our 12-17 range, which was just enough to make her less polarizing than Dan + Shay thanks to ClevelandRox 's #2 rank of the latter. This is by far my least favorite of the 4 new songs Lainey Wilson has blessed us with during this pandemic. And that seems to apply to most of us, because it is also her first song to miss the top 13. I'm eager to see how long it is until Lainey puts out another new song! She promised back in March to release a new song on the last Friday of every month for the next four months...and "Small Town, Girl" was the final song of that series (she skipped June for some reason). So this may be the last we hear from her for awhile, but on the other hand I'm still chomping at the bit for her to finally make the top 10 in one of these...  She got so close every time, until this month!! She's got a delightfully infectious personality, so I'm definitely going to be rooting for her moving forward! One of my favorite new artists that I've discovered through these rankdowns. |
