Lauren Alaina and Jon Pardi both make a very strong New Country Rankdown Series debut with "Getting Over Him"! Finishing at #3 they join the powerful and illustrious ranks of Ruthie Collins' "Dang Dallas", Martina McBride's "Girls Like Me", Eric Church's "Stick That In Your Country Song", and Taylor Swift's "betty" Lauren Alaina will show up again next month because her new EP came out in September! Is another top 3 in the cards?! You'll have to participate in our September rankdown to find out!!

Oh wow, I thought Lauren had the best shot at winning this but I did expect Parker would do quite well here as well, and I'm okay with this outcome as "Young Man's Blues" is simply fantastic! Easily the best thing I've heard from yet and it had BETTER be his next radio single after "Pretty Heart" peaks.

Not only did this rankdown almost have an all-male top 5 (for the longest time Josh Turner was in and Lauren Alaina wasn't), but it is the very first rankdown in this series to be won by a male artist!!!
"Young Man's Blues" has really got me paying attention to Parker McCollum for the first time. This song is so amazing!!!! The melody is a perfect combination of being super laid back and yet super catchy. Parker's vocal is perfect for the song as well. This NEEDS to be his next single, and if it is, it will probably be in my top 5 for the 2021 year-end rankdown!
"7500 OBO" is a great song as well. It is not at all unexpected for Tim McGraw to give us jams, but this one seems to have a very unique vibe to it. It's not like anything he has ever given us. Other than of course the sample of the "Where The Green Grass Grows" fiddle in the background. It's so nice to have Tim back with new music finally! With "I Called Mama" making it to #4 in the May rankdown (after being a top 2 contender for much of the submission process), followed by this one actually making the top 2, it is apparent that we were ready for new music from him!! It'll be interesting to see if this one is able to win its album rankdown when it eventually happens, or if something else will be able to surprise us.

This was a pretty solid Top 10, I must say. I love "Starting Over" so I'm just happy that made it in because I know Chris Stapleton has his detractors. "Classic" has grown on me quite a bit since its release in July and I love the video! "Forged in the Fire" was great and I'm kinda surprised it missed the Top 5. I absolutely adore Josh Turner's voice (as I've said multiple times lol) and I really enjoyed this duet with Runaway June. Their voices melded together like butter on a frying pan. Color me shocked at this nearly all-male Top 5!!! Who are we and what have we done to Pulse?! "7 Summers" is perhaps my favorite Morgan Wallen song yet, and I have yet to listen to the album but will here soon for the rankdown. Based on what I have heard, it's shocking I would grow to love his music as "Whiskey Glasses" was a song that took forever and a day to grow on me. I would find it quite annoying to hear on the radio. I don't know what happened to me with the song, but whatever it was, it was like a switch from night to day. As for the Top 3...I was surprised by "7500 OBO" and I QUITE enjoyed "Getting Over Him," but despite my slightly lower rank for it, I am quite happy to see Parker McCollum take this! "Young Man's Blues" is the best thing I've heard from him (based on only three songs; who has recommendations for me?!) and it has #1 breakthrough written all over it. The song is pretty, his voice is pretty, he's pretty...literally what else can you ask for? Happy for him to have snagged an ever-elusive male crown on Pulse! Thanks for hosting an incredible month for country music bboat11 and here's to September!

Parker McCollum is slowly becoming a favorite of mine. I really love his voice and so many of his songs are really strong. "Pretty Heart" is rather underwhelming compared to the rest of his stuff and "Young Man's Blues" is definitely a stronger song, I do hope they release that one next. Hopefully we get an album announcement soon though I'm thinking with the announcement of a new EP I'm guessing the album is still a ways off.

To be fair, I only had like 10 songs on my preliminary list because of my computer crapping out in the middle of the month and me not really paying attention to music for a couple weeks... So I made the mistake of asking some people for suggestions 😂

So I made the mistake of asking some people for suggestions 😂 As for the previous month I'm so glad to see Parker's "Young Man Blues" come out on top because it really is a great song. He lives here around the Austin area and is local and now Texas favorite, so it's great to see him take off. I had a hunch it was going to perform quite well, but given that male artists don't normally come out ahead of their female counterparts I wasn't expecting him to take the cake. Speaking of the male artists, when was the last time that not one, not two, but SEVEN of them landed in the top ten?!? Could it be that some of their output is slightly starting to get better??? I do hope that is the case. I did expect both Eric's and Chris's song to be polarizing so that wasn't surprising, but I was a bit surprised that both songs managed to make it as far as they did.

Well tim is my main "obscure Indie act" consultant, and when I asked him about Tyler Childers' new album, he was like "Well it's basically just a fiddle instrumental album", so I moved on without Tyler. I would be open to adding that one if people want it though, because that album did make waves this month with its surprise release. Regarding "Without You"... Luke's new deluxe album has a release date in October, so I have written a note to make sure we honor him in next month's rankdown :)

I'm of two minds really when it comes to including "Long Violent History" in a rankdown such as this one. On one hand, I'm a fan of his so I'd be thrilled to see him represented in any country rankdown as I don't think a lot of those within' the country forum are necessarily all that familiar with his work. On the other hand, while the song is notable for addressing the civil unrest that has befallen America I'm just not entirely sure it was warranted for inclusion. Should he follow up soon with a full-length studio album then yea I think any new song he releases should be included.

Plz no 25 songs is already enough. I have to say I felt pretty duped that I checked out his last album because of his viral post only to discover he didn't even sing until the final song.

Sorry for the lack of reminders for this one so far! Life has kinda caught up with me, especially because (as I have said in several threads now) I have been busy moving! I need to extend the Terri Clark album rankdown, but fortunately there is still plenty of time for us to roll with this one according to schedule! There is officially one more week for you to get in on this month's rankdown :)
We're off to a VERY slow start, but I'll chalk it up to my lack of action regarding this one so far. I'll turn on frequent reminders for the rest of this week!

Our September rankdown is now due in just 3 days!!!! (I guess 4 if it's currently early in the morning for you like it is for me).
I think I'll finally do my own list today, since I finally finished 2012!
(Anyone who hasn't done either yet, this will be a MUCH quicker and easier one to knock out than that one will be ;) Might as well do it first!!)
