Before looking at "8/31/84" let's close the book on 1987
1. Alan peaked Danny Wilson at #6; really #23 2. Mark said High Life was the 5th single, really 4th from Winwood's countdown album
Now on to this week:
1. Mark said Drive '55 was Sammy's biggest solo record... really his 3rd highest charter. 2. Mark said Frey's countdown album contained his biggest hits like Smugglers Blues? The Heat Is On, You Belong To the City?? Neither were on Allnighter. 3. Alan said Missing You would reach #1 in a week or two... it got there three panels later on 9/22. Then he said Tina's Together was from 1983. It charted in this same 1984 countdown year. 4. These flubs are a Hard Habit To Break. Alan said Chicago's countdown song was Cetera and 'Will" Champlin. Then he said it was nominated for an Oscar? Could he have been thinking about Stevie's just played countdown song? Or the one coming up by RPJ??

1989 is back...so soon?
1. Alan placed Romantics What I Like in 1979; charted on Hot 100 in 1980. 2. In her weekly chart screw up Nina dropped Eddie Murphy six, really 35-27. Then she said Sacred Emotion fell sixteen, really 28-16 and Donald Clark Osmond's countdown album had four charters... three tunes cracked the Hot 100 3. Alan said Surface was Showering the countdown with their biggest hit, but the reached #1 for The First Time later on 4. After Mark said countdown Don't Wanna Lose You was Gloria's first solo #1, Alan said it was co-written by Gloria and Emilio was their 2nd chart topper? Both this and prior MSS #1 Anything For You were Gloria solo writes.

1989 was last aired 8 weeks before this. That's not that soon. 1. Alan placed Romantics What I Like in 1979; charted on Hot 100 in 1980. The song itself came out in very late 1979, so that's not an error. An actual, major error they keep bringing up in these '89 shows is Milli Vanilli's downfall being caused by that MTV-sponsored concert that was highlighted on Behind the Music. In reality, that happened in July of '89, 16 months before they were exposed & before 2 of their 3 #1 hits had reached the top of the chart (or charted at all, in the case of Blame It On The Rain). Nobody seemed to care, or even notice, that it happened at the time.

1. In her weekly content screwup Nina started the '9/18/81' show by saying I'm In Love was Evelyn Champagne King but as Gary Owens told us on the real thing filling in for Casey, at this point she was no longer being billed by the bubbly. 2. Strange version of Breakup Song, ouch, not the hit. 3. Mark said Cool Love would peak in a couple weeks; it had already topped off at #13 4. Mark said the 'Sisters were destined to get to stuck at #2 which would be behind the same #1 as this countdown. Slow Hand had already had its destiny fulfilled and was headed down the chart

1. Alan said HL was #1 in 1981 with Don't You Want Me... really 1982. Then in their ever changing definition of a hit, he said Running Scared had 'em by New Edition and Patti LaBelle. Those never made the Hot 100 but he omitted a Kim Wilde near top 40 miss. 2. Mark peaked Point in November, really the 10/11 panel for Nu Shooz. Then he said All Cried Out was a Summer smash; it peaked at #8 on the 10/25 chart.... 3. OMG, Alan said Twist and Shout was a Blue Notes classic.... the group was Top Notes and it was Isley Bros version that was the first hit. 4. Mark said Typical Male got stuck behind #1 Cyndi Lauper for three weeks; that would be kinda hard since True Colors was only #1 for two. The other was actually Jan Jackson. 5. Alan said Walk This Way introduced Aerosmith, they had already been introduced with Sweet Emotion and Dream On 6. Mark said Friends and Lovers was released after the Both To Each Other version by Juice and Eddie. The latter actually first charted 7/12 or a week after Carl and Gloria.

Casey lite actually ID'd the 10/1/83 chart correctly, no Nina Blunderwood, errors should be way down Isn't this like the third time she's missed 83 recently? I don't ask why Nina is gone, I just enjoy the fewer flubs. 1. Mark said countdown Lawyers was Browne's last top 20; of course he got there again as a 'Friend of Clarence Clemons. Then he slotted All Night Long at #23 before correctly re-placing Lionel @ #28 later in the intro. 2. Alan said Cold Heart by Elt & Dua Lipa came out last year, really 2021 3. Mark said Sweet Dreams was Eurythmics 4th album single; really the first US. Then he peaked at #2, really a chart topper. Then he said it was top fiver for six, really 7 weeks. 4. Mark held King of Pain at #6, really 6-11

No Mark Goofman this week... errors should be way down.
1. In her weekly chart screw up Toni Basil was dropped eleven, Hey Nina it climbed 39-48 2. Alan said this was 1983, then he peaked Sweet Time at #28 really #26 3. Nina called her Evelyn Champagne King but at this point the bubbly was gone. Then in Shame she said 1974, really 1978 for her first biggie 4. The display listed him as MMM, but he was still being billed as Michael Murphey at this point 5. Alan said countdown Who Can It Be Now was Men's biggest, really Down Under 6. Nina said 'Sorry was a twelve week top fiver, really 11 for Chicago

no Mark, two different songs with the same title back-to-back isn't a Big 40 first considering you've played this exact chart before (it especially doesn't count since YOU PLAYED CHEAP TRICK'S SONG TWICE lmfao)

In addition to above: 2. Don't Worry, in her weekly chart screw up Nina dropped 'Happy nine, really 17-6. Then she peaked How Can I Fall at #2 really three, saying it was Breathe's breakthrough. That would be their real #2 Hands To Heaven. 3. Mark placed Freebird in 1973; Leonard Skinner first charted late 1974. 4. OMG, Alan called Rockin' Rod's countdown album Out of Control. Then he said Beach Boys were back after 20 years.... their last top 40 w/Fat Boys was in 1987. 5. In their ever changing definition of a hit, Alan said countdown 'Love You was Tay Dayne's first biggie; she had two prior top tenners. 6. Alan said 1967 but Neil drank Red Red Wine in 1968. Then in her weekly content screw up Nina said Mindbenders were Groovy in 1965, really 1966

The only thing scary about this '10/31/80' show was these flubs:
1. Mark called Jimmy Hall's countdown song... I'm Happy Love Has Found You. Then he told the story of Willie but never identified Honeysuckle Rose as the film countdown On the Road Again was from. 2. In their ever changing definition of a hit, Alan said Wiz Stephanie Mills would have numerous big songs on the radio during this period of which countdown Never Knew Love was the biggest. But she only hit the top 40 twice more; and one of those just barely, #40 for two weeks w/TP 3. In her weekly content screw up Nina said Air Supply was a duo, but that came later. They were a five member group back in 1980. 4. OMG, they played the studio version of Dreamer made worse by Mark saying it was the live hit.

No Mark Goofman for "11/9/84"
1. In her weekly content screw up Nina said War Song would be Boy George Club's seventh top fiver, really peaked @ #17. They would have a total of 4 top fivers. 2. Alan said countdown Lucky Star was intended to kick off Madonna but ended up being the 3rd release after Everybody and Holiday... Borderline? Then he said it was the "B" side of Holiday but that was I Know It. 3. They closed the show w/ the 1989 intro??

no Mark, "(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" was not re-released as it was originally mixed, the hit version was still the remix (y'know, the remix YOU JUST PLAYED). Also, "Knocked Out" wasn't the third straight #1 hit in that group & to try & deceive us like that is just "Cold Hearted".

Mark Goofman said Expose had their 9th straight top tenner, really 6th. Then he said Gloria's 'Feet was the first single from her album. Really the 2nd from Cuts Both Ways 3. In her weekly chart screw up Nina placed Phil Collins at #12, really #22. Then she ^ Ronstadt w/ Aaron Neville four, really 12-18 for Don't Know Much

1. In her weekly content screw up Nina said Milsap had 40 country #1s, really 35 for Ronnie 2. Mark said countdown My Girl was 'Tops first single since leaving Motown. They had a decade of hits on ABC. 3. The display has Steal the Night artist listed as 'Steve' Woods. 4. Mark correctly dated the 10/17 and 12/19 charts for Rockin' Rod's 'Turks but they continue to refer to this one as '11/27/81'?? 5. Alan said Foreigner's 'Girl was kept from the top by ONJ. For the first nine, but the tenth they were denied by the guys I Can't Go For That.

This '12/5/1986' has been done like 50 times, did practice make perfect?
1. Alan said Three Hearts was Daryl's 3rd solo record. It was his second after Sacred Songs. 2. Speaking of Foolish Pride, Nina said the artist was Dan Hill.... OMG! 3. Alan said Human League was trying to recapture the magic of 1981s Don't You Want Me.... it charted Spring/Summer 82.

The 1983 show: They are playing a live version of Karma Chameleon! Uptown girl was an ode to the four seasons not the four tops In addition to these: 3. Mark said Roberta and Peabo were headed to #16; they had already Celebrated there and were pausing on the way off the chart. Then he said countdown Time Will Reveal was Debrage's biggest before they got the Rhythm. That peaked at #18 or a slot lower than All This Love. 4. In their ever changing definition of a hit Alan said countdown 'Stride was Wilder's only biggie ignoring his top 40 'Kid even though earlier he said Romantics first hit was What I Like About You which never made the top 40 5. Alan said Twist Of Fate was a title cut, even though the John Travolta and ONJ movie was actually called Two Of A Kind, OMG! 6. Mark peaked Uptown Girl at #3 for four, really five weeks.

This week we go back to "12/17/82"
1. They played the studio version of I Do instead of the live hit version. 2. Alan peaked By My Lady at #26, really right here at #28 from the album Winds of 'Chance' 3. Alan said Clash was headed to the top.... #8?? 4. In her weekly content screw up Nina said Barry, Robin and Maurice "Gibbs" wrote Heartbreaker. And can someone tell Nina it's spelled Maurice but pronounced Morris. 5. At least MAW got tagged, incorrectly as 1981. Their fellow Aussie's Little River Band just showed as #21 the entire time. 6. In their ever changing definition of a hit, Alan said countdown Mickey was it, but Toni Basil had a couple other Hot 100 entries.

Mark Goodman starts off the 1985 countdown saying "Lay Your Hands On Me" peaked at #13. It was Thompson Twins' second Top 10 hit where it peaked at #6.
