Ah, the week “We Belong Together” hit #1. My Pulse brethren and I held our breaths to see if she would squeak by, and then ended up the song of the summer.

Could, not will. Don't get your hopes up yet lmfao It’s still in the top 20 on radio and lingering around on spotify why would it go recurrent at a faster rate?

We all knew “We Belong Together” was going to hit #1 anyhow. It was obvious at that point. 😎 The week prior to hitting number one she was already number one in overall airplay with 175M listener impressions, which was rapidly rising. She could have potentially hit number one a week or, possibly, even two weeks sooner but she lacked strong Digital sales especially in comparison to “Hollaback Girl” which also had relatively strong airplay albeit it was declining. A moment, regardless.

Would that be Circles first week out of the Top 10 since it’s release? Or has it dropped out before and then come back in?

idk if anyone's mentioned this, but Falling's longevity is pretty damn impressive for a "TikTok Song" (about to be its 28th week and still gaining)

It was interesting because there was a controversy in which it appeared some of WBT's digital sales were given away for free that first week it hit #1, in which case if they weren't counted Hollaback Girl would've been #1 a fifth week. 13 weeks of course still would've been amazing for WBT, and it still would've been song of the summer and #1 year-end. #1 for the 2000's decade might not have been so certain, and it also might have ranked slightly lower on all-time lists.

As a relatively new chart watcher, it's so fascinating to hear about the dynamics of the charts and forum perspectives back then. Makes me wonder how people will remember the charts this week or year in a decade or two.

Yep, we had a long discussion over those digital sales at the time. Many thought she was trying to “buy” her #1 single.

The idea of a resurgence was in the air. Then, Mimi debuted at #1 with higher sales than her last three albums and the movement had begun.

"WBT" was "robbed" of a week at #1 due to "Inside Your Heaven," so I figure it evened out. "ILT" (and "#B" for that matter) might have gotten a week in the top 10 if its peaks had lined up better. It peaked at radio in early March, but it peaked in sales (including cracking the top 10) throughout April and into May.

Probably the most surprising thing is how it has managed to rise at radio. It currently ranks #7 out of 20 in top 40 currents radio callouts which is quite unexpected.

I remember that vividly. 😎 It was extremely controversial among the fan forums. Billboard even had to release a statement about how Digital sales would be counted from then onwards with regards to ‘We Belong Together’s’ first week at number one. In 2005 and through to 2006/2007 their were multiple Digital music stores; iTunes (the biggest), MSN, Real Music Store, Walmart Digital Store etc. which made Download calculations somewhat unreliable which is why their were many weeks where Digital sales weren’t completely accounted for and their was missing data. Apparently the first song to actually sell well over 100K downloads in a single week was Kanye West’s “Golddigger” and not D4L’s “Laffy Taffy”. I remember their was a big glitch on iTunes and a heavy percentage of his sales were somehow missed the week it leapt to number one. Also, let’s not forget the meltdowns that ensued when Underwood’s “Inside Your Heaven” replaced “We Belong Together” at number one for a week in July. Many of the Lambs thought it was the end of “...Together’s” reign, despite its huge airplay, and were trying to cry foul because “...Heaven” had combined Physical & Digital sales when it went to number one. 💀 Oh, how I miss the drama of the early-2000’s Hot 100.
