Also remember that music is a powerful form of education. When a non-black person sees a random company advertising how they stand with BLM, it's not gonna educate them or change their perspective. But when that same person plays the "Hot Country" playlist on Spotify, expecting to hear the latest Thomas Rhett or Luke Combs, they're instead going to hear "Black Like Me" by Mickey Guyton, which is a really impactful song about the experience of growing up black in a small town. When hearing that song, It's not hard to pause and reflect about the black experience in some way, which is always a great thing. Good job, Spotify. I don't think it will change anything. I've been constantly educated about what it's like to be black my entire life, and anybody else who has a TV or goes to the cinema or uses social media will have experienced the same. If they still choose to hold their views after decades of education, either we must use a different strategy to change them, or accept that they will always be racist and deal with them accordingly. I def agree with the second half of your statement, but I think you underestimate how little people are educated on the black experience. Sure, you may have learned a lot about the black experience through social media, cinema, and TV, but a lot of people haven't. I would bet that a lot of people listening to the Hot Country playlist aren't necessarily racist people, but they probably don't follow people on social media who are raising awareness about BLM, and they might just tune in to mainstream TV channels and movies which also aren't really gonna show a non-sugarcoated portrayal of what it's like to be black in America. If Spotify was just putting a bunch of these empowering and storytelling songs on solely black lives matter playlists, then I would agree with you; BUT, they are actively putting these songs on other random playlists (like Hot Country) where I think it will reach more people who are otherwise not really educated abt this.

I think it would take more than a few songs to really educate these people. Any artform whether it's music, movies, TV shows, even documentaries, can only do so much to actively challenge and change the minds of those are blissfully ignorant and insensitive to issues about race. Yes, it does help if there is more diversity in the art that is promoted by playlists in broadening people's eyes but that's not going to be as powerful as directly letting the voices hurt most by systemic oppression be platformed or being having in depth discussion with them, helping them confront and accept that they have privilege and that they can use that privilege to help minorities. Most of all, art can only do so much against those who are already in power, who listen and see the racism happening, and still choose to perpetuate and normalize racism instead. If you're goal is to educate those who aren't knowledgeable about race, it has to be more than just educating people on the struggles of being black in America, it's also important to show them why accountability towards those in power is so important.

"Bombs Over Brooklyn" by Big Data isn't really about race issues but it's message is very of the time right now and it deserves some streams. Unfortunately it's not on Spotify, YouTube has you covered though :).

Don't see how BL would be over Savage I see a drop in sales, and streams. Blinding Lights is also decreasing but by a slim margin. If I had to bet money I would predict Savage over Blinding Lights but this is just how my calculations tell me

So Stuck with you and the 69 song are just gonna keep falling down the charts? No rebound at all? ππ The 69 song will probably get a small rebound when the next single releases along with the album, but beyond that I donβt see it getting any sustainable traction

Gosh, another new #1!? This turnover is way too fast, 11 #1s in 2020 already.

Gosh, another new #1!? This turnover is way too fast, 11 #1s in 2020 already. Given Rockstar goes to #1, that will be the 9th new #1 of the year, already tying 2014 and beating 2015

Gosh, another new #1!? This turnover is way too fast, 11 #1s in 2020 already. I can see ROCKSTAR having multiple weeks on top, even if it may be non-consecutive. It's not really slowing down on any metric, and has a lot of room to grow on airplay. I can see a tight race with Savage for #1 in the coming weeks.

I was told βThis Is Americaβ was forgotten... β οΈ
Glover truly gave us a CLASSIC, millennial, protest anthem!
Itβs 5 weeks in the top ten clearly has nothing on its cultural impact. ππΏ
