In rare cases, side projects blow up into full blown album eras if they catch on enough, and there are so many reasons to believe this has the potential to blow up. This is a lane that’s relatively unexplored for Carrie, JTTW, SITW, and now MG but other than that, Carrie has never serviced an entire Christian/Gospel/Country LP anywhere.. Given how well her limited Christian music does, I think there’s a real Country/Christian lane that a voice like Carrie’s is absolutely made for. Country artists make Christian albums all the time, but none of them have a voice like Carrie, and not many have the overall name recognition. To add, few already have a relatively established footprint in the genre and Carrie managed that with just a few songs and viral moments throughout her career. Basically, she’s a Country/Christian artist who has never actually released an album in that lane... She’s already set up for this to do really well. Also, it’s 2021 - after the year everyone’s had, I think it’s fitting that some faith is injected back into our society and I don’t think there’s a better mainstream vocalist to do this, musically speaking. There’s room here for a really big career moment, and the timing of all of this just seems right. This is beautifully written. Thank you.

If it’s mostly original songs then I’m good with this! My problem with My Gift was mainly the direction she took. A Christmas album from Carrie wouldve been amazing had it actually felt like a Carrie Underwood album. All we got was boring ballads that have been covered a million times before. The originals were good but again nothing special. She sounded great but her creativity was at a career low.
With this, if she can give us songs like Something In The Water, Keep Us Safe and Jesus Take The Wheel, then I’m sure this will be amazing.

She's coming for more GRAMMYs.
Edit: also...
Push FTOY next year please please please. Video treatment, late night performances, etc. "Hallelujah" did its job this year; let's get this one out of the gates in 2021. It hit #80 on the Hot 100 and #76 on the UK's version of the chart with it just being an Amazon Music exclusive. Imagine how well it'd do if it was available everywhere else.

Much worse I imagine without the power of Amazon behind it. I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact--and I have said this a number of times now--I think that even more so than "Hallelujah," FToY is waiting to become her AIWFCIY. A #1 hit literally everywhere and I can truly see it becoming the next Christmas classic. Amazon helped but only so much--being an Amazon exclusive sucks for those that use Apple/Spotify/etc. and/or don't even have Amazon accounts and thus still haven't heard the song. When those people are exposed to the song, if they love it they'll then want to buy it, increasing sales of the song/album during the holiday season. If it managed to hit #80 on the Hot 100 and #76 in the UK because of Amazon alone, then it has the power to be a Christmas competitor every year.

You don't think Hallelujah, and Sweet Baby Jesus are anything special? Or that Little Drummer Boy with her son wasn't creative? 3 out of 11 songs were completely original with a 4th (Little Drummer Boy) having a solid twist. I do agree though that I hope My Savior has more originals along the lines of Something in the Water and Jesus Take The Wheel.

^^^ Speaking of originals: This is not happening but I would weep if My Savior was a two-disc record with Disc 1 being hymns and Disc 2 being originals, a la Reba's Sing It Now.

My issue with FToY continues to be that it's not technically on My Gift. I would question how well it would push the album if released as a stand alone single, unless there was a re-release of My Gift with FToY included. Even if there is a re-release next year (which is doubtful), I don't know if they would put FToY on the re-release with the focus on more Christian-based music for My Gift/My Savior.

Hello all! New here! Longtime reader first time poster! I don’t mean to trigger anyone, but I have to ask this question. Do we think this increases her chances at CMA EOTY in 2021? We are hitting the halfway mark of the eligibility period and what artist is doing more right now? I apologize if this wasn’t the right place for this question!
P.S. Carrie is my top artist and I’m loving the fact that we will have received two albums in the span of six months!

Much worse I imagine without the power of Amazon behind it. It wouldn’t lose the power of Amazon, though; it’d just gain the powers of Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Hell, it isn’t even available on iTunes right now. Presumably jamatthews83 means that FToY won’t receive the prime positions on the Amazon holiday playlists once it is no longer an exclusive, like Katy’s “Cozy Little Christmas,” they will still list it as an Amazon original, but it won’t be in one of the first positions and that is a major factor in how many streams songs get. Also Team Carrie needs to sort things out with Spotify and have her sing some exclusive tracks or something, they only put her on the Country Holiday list and not any of the others—MG tracks were especially glaringly absent from the new holiday hits playlist that included every Tom, Dick, or Harry who released a new Christmas track this year who isn’t Carrie. Lack of Spotify support may well have cost “Hallelujah” potentially top 40 on the Hot 100 seeing how many subscribers their top holiday playlists get. If “Hallelujah” got comparable playlisting to Dan/Shay, Kelly/Brett, or Dolly/Michael who are all on the main Christmas Hits list, Carrie/John could have had another 10 million streams easily, which is a major reason I believe the song hasn’t reached its max potential. Carrie’s songs were was placed on the Apple Music Holiday hits playlist, which is probably due to her doing podcasts with them. The whole playlisting situation is so political and corrupt, just like the Grammys since they moved to using the secret committee nominations instead counting everyone’s votes—I honestly can’t recall if Carrie has even been nominated since they changed the process, certainly she’s garnered way less Grammy attention since then. So yeah, not holding my breath for nominations off MG or MS, no matter how phenomenal her vocals are. Re: the new album, I gather gospel means all English language songs? I actually would love for her to do the traditional Latin hymns, many have beautiful melodies, and I reckon Carrie can handle the Latin if she’s running around singing Spanish, plus school choirs sing them—I myself have sung quite a few since elementary school and I’m around Carrie’s age—so I am sure she is familiar with them. But guessing that I’m going to have to keep waiting for CU’s take on “Ave Maria” since it doesn’t really fit the title of this particular album.

I would love for her to somehow get a nomination in 2021, but I could see her still being excluded maybe because of her albums not being straight up country studio albums. I do feel though that she has better chances of getting nominated now after she had such a hard time for many years before 2016. Things will still be different though in terms of touring not being a factor for next year’s show, so that could work to her benefit!

I just really hope this album is more “Gospel” than modern worship music 😜 think it’s cool that she is doing something different and I think this will appease a part of her fanbase. I was more excited for the Christmas album, but I’m sure I’ll end up loving this as well. I hope there’s a way we get her next “real” album at the end of next year but also realise that could be a bloated time for releases.
ETA - I wonder if Carrie releasing so much music in such a short time (for her) is due to either covid or her husband being retired (to spend time with the kids), or both. Regardless, I much prefer this pace!

^ Best version of the song. I’ve always stood by that. Although, her performance of it on the HBO special might now be neck-and-neck with it. I’m a sucker for a well-executed strings accompaniment.

If we’re lucky enough to get a fresh recording of JTTW, which I could totally see them doing, I hope the falsetto bridge makes it - hearing a studio version like this performance would send me over the moon!

I'm really holding out strong hopes and prayers for "My Savior" to provide a few moments that are infused with Southern-Baptist-esque stylings, with a full gospel choir in the background coupled with some aggressive, spirited gospel-diva-like vocal wails a la Yolanda Adams. Carrie is more than capable of rocking that style; Even as pure and clean as her voice is, she has shown that she does enjoy letting loose from time to time with some soulful, gritty vocal growls and distortion. The MJ Tribute in 2010, Church Bells at the 2016 CMTs, the little reprise she did at the end of Last Name on the Play On Tour, her Guns N Roses covers, and even "Trouble" on American Idol, which will forever remain one of my favorite vocals from her. I simply cannot do a full-length album that is just strictly and rigidly composed of lullaby-type hymns in the vain of "Sweet Baby Jesus." As beautiful as those types of songs are, they only showcase one dimension of her voice and musicality. Besides, I feel like true worship music is designed to run the full gamut of human emotions, anyway. Take us to church, Carrie.

Oooh I wonder when we’ll get the lead single (or buzz single) for My Savior! And I wonder if it’ll be sent to country radio I feel unsure about what direction they’re going to push the album in terms of radio. I feel like Christian radio has always been somewhat reluctant to play Carrie (at least for the Christmas album). On Reba’s gospel album, I’m pretty sure “Back to God” got country airplay, so I guess country is definitely a possibility for Carrie. The latest the album is going to come out is April 2nd, but if it’s sometime in March I hope we will get some type of lead single or promotional single in February. I also forgot about the Dove Awards, and hopefully Carrie could have a good shot for that show!

I'm sure we'll hear more about the album in January. The time between Christmas and New Years is always kind of a hot mess. I'm thinking a single will come out mid-January, album deets sometime in February, album release in April.
As far as radio airplay goes, I think they'll probably take a similar approach to it as they did with My Gift; not really "push" for airplay exactly, but let it just happen naturally.

I do think they will treat this like a full era in terms of having a lead single and such, but considering Carrie practically introduced this as Part 2 to MG, I’m pretty sure the promo will look similar to this past season’s promo. She also introduced MS in the past tense; “so I did it, I made a gospel album” - which leads me to believe she’s probably already filmed a number of performances to service to cable talk shows... We’re not out of the woods with the pandemic and won’t be until summer at the earliest, so aside from being a holiday season release and sans Amazon’s holiday power, I think the rollout for “My Savior” will look quite similar. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a part 2 to the Holiday special, that’s a very HBO thing to do...
However they do this, I’m just so glad this is finally happening and I think it’s absolutely genius to do these two projects somewhat as one. I have to say, I watched back Carrie’s ACM tribute performance and just can’t get over how flawless that was. 2020 has brought out the absolute best of Carrie anyone has ever seen, and she’s killing it!
WHAT IF there’s a trilogy brewing and part three is a covers album, titled like “My Inspiration”... the ACM tribute was so random and it was the 95th... that’s not even like a milestone birthday. I mean, it is because of the age itself but like, it’s not the 100th... SITW closing the Christmas special was CLEARLY symbolic and entirely done on purpose (and also why I think there may be more), so I can’t help but wonder if there are other hints for what’s to come scattered throughout the later part of 2020... During the medley, Carrie sounded like she sounds after having recorded the songs. She sounded SO GOOD, as if she had recently been singing them over and over. I could totally see this happening, though I know it’s likely not to...
Figured I’d drop that on the last day of the year, just a fun “what if”... it makes sense in my head, but for now I’m looking forward to the spring and what’s to come from “My Savior”. I’m sure it will be another vocal spectacle paired with Carrie’s deep faith and it will truly be stunning. I can’t wait!
