What makes yall think we're gunna get vocals? The fact that Carrie Underwood is among the greatest vocalists in the history of country music, and is the greatest vocalist of her generation.

What makes yall think we're gunna get vocals? 😂 I can’t. Michelangelo had paint. Carrie has her voice. Try again.

What makes yall think we're gunna get vocals? I feel like she doesn't really deliver vocals like that anymore, no matter what or with whom she sings at this point. Hope I'm wrong, but I figure at this point it's better to set my expectations low and be pleasant surprised than the other way around. Wait, so her live performances of "Broken Wing", "O Holy Night" and her medley of her gospel album where she absolutely slayed weren't delivering vocals? I'm confused

Collaborations with John Legend, David Bisbal, Loretta Lynn & Reba McEntire, Cece Winans, NEEDTOBREATHE, Jason Aldean, and Dan + Shay (not to mention king Isaiah Fisher) all within a year!? Others' faves wish they got this much new music in between normal eras.

I’m loving her recent styling. I definitely think this Rock goddess vibe is going to carryover into the next album era.

Wait, so her live performances of "Broken Wing", "O Holy Night" and her medley of her gospel album where she absolutely slayed weren't delivering vocals? I'm confused Of course those were great vocal performances - some of her best ever, in fact. But they were pre-set arrangements that she merely paid tribute to, as opposed to being products of her own ambitious creation. That's kind of my point. Some of you seem to be taking it as a dig against her vocal abilities, when it's really just a basic observation of the fact that she makes much safer, more laid-back choices with her voice these days. Does she still sound nice? Yes. Is there anything WRONG per se? No. I just don't really see her going "off" vocally unless she's covering someone else's arrangement in which the bar is already set there. Those are the only times she's really vocally exciting anymore imo, and it's my prerogative to feel that way and to express it. The phrase "serving vocals," especially when it comes to powerhouse singers like Carrie, just kinda carries (no pun intended haha) a different connotation for me. I think of big, ballsy, uninhibited-type vocals that leave me searching for my wig, so to speak. Flat-out SANGING as opposed to just nice singing, if you will.

If, and please correct me if I’m not understanding your points, are based on her last two albums, they were passion products. I feel as if Carrie recorded and release those albums using her instrument similarly as she would singing around the house or while being at church. They’re, for the most part, understated and therefore don’t have to rely on her notable powerhouse voice. To insinuate that she isn’t going to “serve vocals” because of those two projects doesn’t mean she won’t in the near future or is incapable to. If you believe that Carrie is past her vocal prime and cannot offer a vocal delivery that we as fans are used to, you’re more than welcome to that opinion. I personally would like to see facts backing that up. (That does not include a festival performance at the end of a set where she is clearly tired and not quite become the performer she is while on the road.)

(That does not include a festival performance at the end of a set where she is clearly tired and not quite become the performer she is while on the road.) Yes, my assessment was based on what I gathered from her two most recent releases. I can understand her wanting to be tasteful and traditional in her approach on those types of songs, and not feel the need to showboat and caterwaul all over the place when singing about Jesus - but imo, there were still some songs and moments within those songs where she could have pushed the envelope a tad more just to make it more exciting, while also showcasing what she can do with her voice. However, I did make it a point to emphasize the fact that I wasn't hinting at the idea that she's unable to deliver vocals on that level anymore, but that she just simply chooses not to. Do I think she can? Sure. But am I expecting it? At this point, no. She's been very laid back even in all of the collaborations that she's done over the past year.

Not wailing like the outro in "Cry Pretty" ≠ laid back, unexciting, etc. Weird analyses happening in here.

Not wailing like the outro in "Cry Pretty" ≠ laid back, unexciting, etc. Weird analyses happening in here. To me, what she did on a song like "Let There Be Peace," for instance, was underwhelming and unexciting. Once the beat kicked in and the gospel choir with that Southern-Baptist-church-type flair, I was definitely expecting some runs and high notes at the end. That was a perfect opportunity to showcase her vocal agility and range, and she just kept it very very basic for the kind of singer that she is, and what I'd expect from her. It's not really an "analysis," but rather just an individual perspective based on my specific preferences and expectations of her, set by what I know of her capabilities to be. You can dismiss it as "weird" if you'd like, but that's still my opinion and it's not going to be changed.

Ugh. Jason Aldean is not a vocalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I get why she did a song with him.

I just knew she was going to sound amazing on this, but this exceeds my expectations - and just IMAGINE the belting between the two that will be coming at the end...

She needs to use that head voice more often. The ease and purity of those transitions took me out.
