Ugh, just so good. I love Dear Evan Hansen, and I love Carrie Underwood - I would've never thought we'd ever hear her sing a track from the musical, but here we are, and she seems to have slayed it. Can't wait to hear the full version later tonight!!

She sounds soooooo clear, innocent, angelic. That head voice is just perfect.
Really loving this song.

Just when you think Carrie has done it all, she gives us this duet. I’m putting this at the top of her singing ability so far. Amazing vocal.

She literally sounds like a Disney princess during that first chorus when she uses her soprano head voice. I've long hoped that she would start using that part of her voice more frequently, and when I heard the outro of Cry Pretty for the first time I thought it was finally coming to fruition. I can't figure out why she barely uses it when she does it so smoothly and effortlessly. Beautiful, bright soprano tone. I was expecting to hear a lot more of it on "My Gift" tbh.

^^ I’ll second that. She’s used it on both MG and MS but not quite to the extent that she did on this song. I hope she uses it like this a bit more throughout CU9, because it’s quite literally heavenly.

In a song like Hallelujah, for example, where John Legend made full use of his falsetto range, I think it would have been great if Carrie used her soprano register, at least in some background harmonies towards the end. It's so bright and ethereal sounding, and definitely would have fit perfectly with the instrumentation and general vibe of the song. I think it would have taken the vocal to another level.

It seems that "Only Us" completely overshadowed (& rightly so) the broadcast of this year's CMA Summer Jam special, but she sounded great in the videos that were uploaded. Not quite sure who Dwight Yoakam is, and this certainly isn't my type of music, but Carrie's voice was strong and penetrating on those verses. She barely sang during the parts where they were supposed to be singing together, though. I suppose out of respect to the gentleman.

Dwight Yoakum is an 80s-90s country music legend, but his prime was pretty short lived. He had a huge debut era in the mid 80s, and his success ran into the mid 90s. On paper he shouldn’t be the major legend he is, but he’s a major inspiration to artists like Garth, Vince, Randy, etc.

Dwight is highly regarded in the sort of alt-country scene. He's definitely a legend.
I loved their collaboration. Their voices contrasted nicely, and Carrie was clearly having the time of her life up there.

"Only Us" is absolutely stunning.
It's also the best thing D+S has been a part of in literal years. The power of Carrie!

Can we talk about that setlist.
We need her to cut Choctaw, Love Wins, and Last Name already. Good Girl can (and should) stand on its own. I would love for her to bring So Small back, which is just a better Love Wins.
I'm okay with Flat on the Floor, but I'm surprised to see it. Also surprised to see Smoke Break in the encore...that song wasn't that successful I thought? Wasn't she putting Something in the Water in that spot? That seems like a better fit, or even Blown Away.

That ending of CP has me on the floor. Absolutely love that final wail of the title right at the end. Absolute goddess.

She will never cut Last Name, and especially not when she starts that Vegas residency lol. But I agree, Good Girl is worthy of a standalone performance, especially when that bridge is the best part of it. It doesn't deserve to be paired with another song, especially not an inferior one.
Undo It, Love Wins, and Smoke Break gotta go. I'd say Last Name too, but I know that isn't going to happen. Probably same with Undo It, especially with her using it to introduce the band for the past like 5 years now.

Wasn't So Small one of her biggest smash singles, btw? I don't know why she's barely paid it dust since like the Play On tour. I also miss Don't Forget To Remember Me, tbh.

"Undo It" is one of her biggest recurrent hits at country radio for some dumb reason so I don't see her ever getting rid of it tbh or at the very least not anytime soon.

Saw her last night and I love that she’s really embracing the fact that her legacy is set in stone and she can kinda just…do whatever the hell she wants. She sounded and looked amazing, and contrary to some lack of taste being exhibited in here, the setlist was great. Her doing ‘Choctaw’ was a very welcome surprise.

Oh, and with everything going on in the world right now between COVID and the escalating conflict in the Middle East, I think "Keep Us Safe" would be a lovely and relevant addition to the setlist.

I had thought about including Undo It in my list of songs for her to cut, but honestly the song kinda slaps live and it was a pretty big radio hit so she should probably keep that one. Yes, So Small spent 3 weeks at No. 1 on country radio, and yet she hasn't had it in one of her setlists since...the Play On tour? Though to be fair I'm not sure how much recurrent play the song gets now, which is likely a factor. Don't Forget to Remember Me is one of, if not my favorite Carrie song of all time. And, I understand why she doesn't include it in her setlist. It wasn't *that* big of a hit, and it had the unfortunate timing of being released between JTTW and BHC. Well yes, of course she can do whatever she wants. She's a country legend. Any setlist she does is going to be great, she could sing the phonebook and it would be superb. Yet, that doesn't mean she can't improve.

I'd love for her to bring back the 80s rock covers tbh (just one per show, maybe have a 3 to 5 song rotation) since both she and the fans adore them. I remember when I saw her on the Carnival Ride tour at MSG, the crowd's response to her "Paradise City" performance was absolutely insane. It's also been a minute since she's sang "Alone," which you KNOW would be a guaranteed crowd pleaser, especially given the fact that she basically reintroduced the song to the later generations. People started covering it left and right after her Idol performance. I wasn't around when the original by Heart was tearing up the charts, so I personally associate the song with Carrie.

Yeah I don’t know why she acts like So Small doesn’t exist. There is a true love for it within the fanbase. CU likes to act like it didn’t sit at #1 for 3 weeks and was a top 20 hit on the all genre hot 100.
I remember the first time I saw her live (at the Opry in 2014) I knew she always left it out of her set list, so I tweeted her on Twitter asking her to sing it that night during my show and she did. Could have been a fluke but given how she never sings it I like to think she did it for me.
Kind of hope Cry Pretty gets cut during next tour. I never loved that one for some reason and I can’t image all of the unnecessary belting (while I love seeing her do it) at the end is good for her voice.

As a casual Carrie fan, "Last Name" and "Undo It" are among my favorites from her, where as "So Small" and "Don't Forget to Remember Me" are my least favorites. Sounds like a great set list to me honestly...

I'm not the biggest fan of "Last Name" however it is a staple in her discography. I do wish she would sing "Don't Forget to Remember Me" again though.
