coming in to win the first leg of PAR2 it's... 1. The Golden Ducks (willapted33 & Web )Overall Score: 79.5 | Detour Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #5Detour Results:(Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is simply a very strong track! Lorde is of course very strong here, and Khalid & SZA deliver strong performances as well. weirdly I think Post Maloneās verse is my favorite, but thatās not to say any of the others arenāt great! this is just such a strong song (9.4)Samo: I never thought the original Homemade Dynamite was one of the better songs on Melodrama, mainly because Lorde's vocal performance in the verses isn't something I was a big fan of, but this remix fixes that completely while still managing to sound coherent with four different artists and verses, making it one of my favourite songs here. (9.5)Juan Carlos: This is a song that didn't need a remix, but once you listen to the new version, you like it and you ask that it's something you didn't expect to. I prefer the original to be honest, but I think that Khalid, Post Malone and SZA complement each other throughout the song and each one gives their own style to the track. (8.8)Hamed: This is another really great collaboration. It already is working off an amazing song but Khalid, Posty, and my girl Solana all deliver great parts. I love that everyone joins her on the chorus after there respective verse. I'm still mind boggled that this didn't get a proper single push. Also my other love Tove Lo has a songwriting credit on this, so it gets ALL MY LOVE. (10)fearlessarrow: Iāve never been a super big fan of either the solo version or the remix - I think the song starts off nice but the chorus loses me unfortunately. But I can say that this was much better than I remembered it to be, I can definitely appreciate the song even if I wouldnāt return to it a ton. (7.5)Overall Score: 45.2Roadblock Results:(Sent by Will)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this has a pretty nice instrumental. the chorus also soars in a pleasant way. itās sweetly written, and overall just a solid track! (8.4)
Samo: An absolute classic for a reason, between Arethaās amazing vocals and the gorgeous production that make this song one-of-a-kind even though the lyrics make it a pretty straight-forward love song. (9.6)
jamesflame: I mean Aretha is obviously a legend. Something about her music just always hits the right spot and that, I enjoy. Vocally, she's an absolute goddess. For the time period, even her production is excellent. I really just couldn't picture anyone else performing this song. (8.8)
Geometrical: Kinda formulaic yet full of sincere emotion. (7.5/10)
Overall Score: 34.3
well look at that! after winning the first season (including the first leg), Will brought his new team back to the top. let's see if the Ducks can get the same success as the Roaches. you two will have a +3.1 bonus next leg!

from first boot to 2nd place its... 2. The Mild Dislikers of Justin Bieber (@matthewlam & tanooki)Overall Score: 78.5 | Detour Rank: #9 | Roadblock Rank: #1Detour Results:(Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I love this song haha. I really dig the chorus, itās a total banger. all the verses are really good, even when they veer more into the corny side. the post-chorus voices have never done much for me, but aside from that this is a near perfect song. (9.4)Samo: What is it with Big Sean verses dragging down really good songs this set? Aside from that, I enjoy all the verses here, and the sample is used really well, sticking out in the song without detracting from anyone else's performance. (8.0)Juan Carlos: This was interesting on first listen, although if I listened to it before, I don't remember it. I think all of the artists involved complement each other and the production is sick. (7.7)Hamed: Ok so this is a song to where I hate the chorus but I like the verses. Everyone's verses are good but I find the chorus and the post chorus annoying. (7.3)fearlessarrow: Iāve only come around to Kanye West in the past couple of years, but āMercyā was a song I had always liked. I love the transition that comes around past the 3-minute mark - I think itās really cool when songs pull those transitions off really well which I think this song accomplishes. (9.0)Overall Score: 41.4Roadblock Results:(Sent by Tanooki)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: bop! this is like, the perfect Halloween song (but I still dig it in summer). Rihannaās far from my favorite artist but this is definitely one of her best singles in my opinion! like the chorus is just so catchy, itās a jam! (8.8)
Samo: Wait, C**** B**** wrote this? Thatās pretty surprising considering this is generally agreed to be one of Rihannaās best ever songs, and with good reason. The Halloween vibes are strong with this one, but itās still great at any time of year. (9.7)
jamesflame: Easily on of Rihanna's best hits. The video goes perfectly with the style and lyrics of the song and that's always a plus. Rihanna's vocal performance is phenomenal as always and the song is also amazingly catchy. Absolutely incredible song. (9.7)
Geometrical: The best song Rihanna has ever released. The entire song rides a fine line between a catchy, joyful vibe and some darker counterparts. Also one of the rare pop songs where the bridge is just as solid as the rest of the song and everything flows extremely well. An absolute pleasure and one of my personal favourite pop songs of the late 2000s. Should I bring this down because the fact Chris Brown wrote this for her makes this slightly awkward? Maybe, but Iām not going to, because the theme isnāt especially relevant to the evaluation for this roadblock. (8.9)
Overall Score: 37.1
congrats on making it past leg 1 Matt! and congrats to Tanooki for recapturing some of your success from last season! you two will be getting a +2.6 bonus next round

we've got two players new to PAR coming in third, its... 3. Class of '21 (born & @flora726 )Overall Score: 78.5 | Detour Rank: #3 | Roadblock Rank: #3Detour Results:(Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: jam! this oneās got a ton of killer punchlines and overall is just a great track. Nicki especially kills her verse here, though her great performance should not overshadow Jay-Zās also very strong verse! (8.9)Samo: Nicki's verse is literally gay culture and probably my favourite of all her features but ignoring that, this is still a really good song with great verses from Kanye and Jay-Z, backed up by an enjoyable beat. (8.5)Juan Carlos: The beat is awesome and it's one of the best songs from Kanye West in my opinion. Every artist involved really did well their part and I think Nicki Minaj really killed it. (8.2)Hamed: Definitely expected this one to get sent. While yes Nicki owns this song with her verse, everyone else's parts are also really good. It's a really good collaboration and was one that really showed Nicki's rapping potential, even though she rarely ever goes this hard. (9.8)fearlessarrow: My least favorite out of the three songs involving Kanye West in this round. That being said, this is still really good. I think the rap itself I might prefer over āMercyā but there were some other factors that make me like āMercyā more - the beat here is fierce and the rapping also complements that too. (8.5)Overall Score: 43.9Roadblock Results:(Sent by Born)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: ooh I like this instrumental! it hits a very specific vibe that I have a huge soft spot for, so well picked there! I also really dig the singerās voice here, I think she sounds very smooth. overall this is a very strong track, and a great discovery! (9.1)
Samo: I expected to like this one a little more, but itās pretty good as it is, with some great lyrics and a fantastic performance from Patsy. (8.5)
jamesflame: Very short track, but that isn't anything strange for the time period. Patsy Cline is another great golden age vocalist. Willie Nelson wrote great songs in the past and this one was no exception. Exceptional song. (8.8)
Geometrical: A simply wonderful voice over a minimalist instrumentation with some cool old school country elements. (8.2)
Overall Score: 34.6
despite both of you being new to PAR, you managed to establish yourselves as frontrunners due to sheer consistency throughout the leg! you'll receive a +2.4 bonus next round

locking in a solid 4th place we have... 4. The United Boomers (BBš & eidde)Overall Score: 78.2 | Detour Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #6Detour Rank:(Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this oneās really great! Kendrick of course kills it here, and I like the various chord stings that are thrown in the production. the chorus doesnāt do a ton for me, but I love the verses, so itās not a big detriment (8.8)Samo: As you'd expect from any Kendrick song, especially one from To Pimp A Butterfly, the lyrics are amazing, but I don't quite love the instrumental as much as I want to, so it ends up holding back the song a little for me. (8.6)Juan Carlos: I really like this. The production and the beats are cool throughout the song. (8.4)Hamed: God this is such a damn good song, this is what I thought of sending if I were a participant. Kendrick has a such a talent to create a song so catchy that has amazing lyrical depth and themes. It's literally a gift and it's why he is one of my favorites. Everyone else on the chorus does a fantastic job and it's a great chorus. (9.6)fearlessarrow: Not among my top favorites from To Pimp A Butterfly, but that album is great throughout. The funky production is nice, and I think itās really cool to use the concept of āwallsā in multiple situations throughout the song but those come together to make a story. I wish I had the talent to do that, lol. (8.6)Overall Score: 44Roadblock Results:(Sent by eidde)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this song is cool as hell. Miranda sounds great here, and sheās got all sorts of charisma. I also really dig the instrumental, and I find the lyrics very unique and interesting! great song! (8.8)
Samo: Lmao at the irony of the United Boomers sending a song where Mirandaās showing how differently sheās handling a breakup compared to someone whoās most likely a boomer themselves. Miranda has a lot of great songs, but this is one of my absolute favourites from her, between the sharp lyrics (you can tell Kacey helped write this) and fun instrumental. (9.1)
jamesflame: Miranda has to be one of the most consistent country artists of the past decade. She has released countless great songs and hasn't shown any real sign of slowing down. She takes this song and just makes it great. Everything about it just works perfectly. (9.4)
Geometrical: A cool take on contemporary country - but I find myself preferring the instrumental over the vocal performance. However, the song flows nicely, feels passionate and is probably among the best stuff Miranda Lambert has out there. Wish I could appreciate it a bit more, but itās solid. (6.9)
Overall Score: 34.2
after being a finalist last season, BB helped bring yet another team of his to success here, alongside a strong roadblock performance from eidde. you two will receive a +2.2 bonus next round

rounding our top 5 is... 5. The Lights (walt91 & Lukas )Overall Score: 77.2 | Detour Rank: #8 | Roadblock Rank: #2Detour Results: (Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this oneās pretty good. it doesnāt totally click with me at the start, but I like it more and more as it goes on. Lil Kimās verse especially is very strong. as far as soundtrack songs from that era go, itās definitely not one of the worst Iāve heard haha. (7.6)Samo: Christina's verse is definitely the best part of the song, but that doesn't mean the rest of the artists don't add something great and unique to the song. Pair that with a beat as good as this one and you get one of this theme's best songs. (9.5)Juan Carlos: This was one of the collaborations of the 2000s, so I liked that there was a team who submitted this. It was the first time I knew about MĆ½a, P!nk, Lil' Kim and Missy Elliot and I was only aware of Christina Aguilera based that she was huge in Latin America because of her self-titled debut album and Mi Reflejo. Either way, the collaboration is good and I always thought that Christina wanted to outdo everyone else there. (7.4)Hamed: A 2000s classic, I miss the days when we got big collabs like this where everyone got equal portions of the song. It's good remake of an old classic that does it justice while adding a whole new flavor. I'm not the biggest fan of this but I do enjoy it, Mya is above and beyond my favorite person on this. (8.2)fearlessarrow: A powerful collaboration between four female artists, we love to see it! Christina Aguileraās powerful vocals really drive the song for me here, but I also like the vocal tone contrast between all the artists - I guess in a way thatās kind of playing to each artistsā strengths. (9.3)Overall Score: 42Roadblock Results:(Sent by Walt)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this song is like actually just perfect. Estelle has a gorgeous voice and Kanye works really well here. the beat and groove here are immaculate, and the overall melody is pretty great too! this is just a huge jam and incredibly memorable! (10)
Samo: I almost love this, and Iām not quite sure whatās holding it back. This isnāt the only song where one of the writers surprised me, since Kanye has some great lines here and I love the concept of the song. Estelle and Kanye also both give great performances here. (8.7)
jamesflame: Another timeless classic. I definitely couldn't see someone like will.i.am on this over Kanye. Kanye was an extremely consistent artist around this time period and him and Estelle worked perfectly together for this track. Great song. (8.3)
Geometrical: A solid collaboration over a solid beat. Too bad this ended up pretty much being Estelleās only significant song. (8.2)
Overall Score: 35.2
after having varied levels of success in the first season, perhaps you two being paired together could be a winning combo! you'll get a +2 bonus next round

just missing out on the top 5 we have... 6. Dylo (Mylo13 š & Daryl the Beryl)Overall Score: 74.9 | Detour Rank: #5 | Roadblock Rank: #9Detour Results:(Crowded Space)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: banger! this song just works so well. everyone individually nails their parts, and they also all complement each other really well. I especially dig Frank Oceanās chorus here. very strong pick! (9.0)Samo: This is one I feel like I should like more than I do, but itās still a very good song with strong performances from everyone involved and two great verses, though the chorus is my favourite part of the song. (8.4)Juan Carlos: This seems to be fine, but I wasn't too impressed to be honest. It seems plain at first, but the outro stands out in my opinion. (6.8)Hamed: I have not listened to this in a hot minute. This is such a killer collaboration, everyone's parts work in tangent together and string together a fantastic song. Jay and Ye both kill it with their verses,I love Frank on the chorus, and Dream's bridge prior to Ye's verse is the perfect setup. (9.4)fearlessarrow: Love everything about this song - the rap is great, Frank Oceanās hook is great, and the beat is great as well. If I had to point towards my favorite aspect of the song, it would have to be the beat - the bass-heavy beat here gives the song a slightly dark tone to it which I think goes well with the overall theme of the song. (9.5)Overall Score: 43.1Roadblock Results:(Sent by Daryl)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: Iāve never been overly fond of this one. itās catchy at some points, but I also find it pretty bland at other points. I think the beat is pretty snazzy, but aside from that there isnāt much here for me. I think I was being a bit harsh with my 5.5 for it last season, but itās still not really something I care to return to often (6.6)
Samo: Yet another song Iāve only come around on recently, but the production is enough to negate any problems I could have with Kylieās vocals here, making it a really good dance-pop song overall and one of my favourites from Kylie. (8.3)
jamesflame: Another song I shouldn't lie as much as I do. Kylie's vocals are kinda iffy to me but the production on this track is incredible. It really does make me look past that bad and just enjoy the song for what it is, and what it is is an absolute pop jam. (8.8)
Geometrical: I donāt think anyone can understate the legacy this song has left us. One of the most earworm-y hooks out there over a stunning, bouncy, dance-pop beat. Pure bliss. (8.1)
Overall Score: 31.8
despite having quite different tastes, you two seem to be off to a strong start! you'll receive a +1.8 bonus next round

in 7th place we have... 7. Fire & Desire (Fire & ry4n )Overall Score: 74.8 | Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #11Detour Results:(Language Ace)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: ooh this is a bop! I really dig the chorus, and the verses arenāt half bad either! I enjoy how light the production is. overall Iād say this is a great discovery! (9.1)Samo: This is a bop, and my favourite of the Language Age songs. I love the vocals and melodies here, and the production is pretty solid too. (8.5)Juan Carlos: Submitting the radio edit instead of the album version of the song was a clever idea if it's considered that the production's former is more upbeat than the latter. Also, it was great that a team sent a French song. The track could be a little monotone, but it's a really good one. (7.6)Hamed: This is really catchy, then again I do listen to some French pop stuff so I'm used to this sound. Reading the English translation of the lyrics, damn is this a vengeful mood and I dig it lol. (8.8)fearlessarrow: Ok props to whoever sent this because YES!! I loved this one when it was actually charting on the French charts and itās held up really well. The radio edit does improve the song imo, the original version is actually pretty slow so the radio edit gives it some nice rhythm and I love the very melancholy feel in the production/arrangement choices. The chorus is very catchy as well. (9.5)Overall Score: 43.5Roadblock Results:(Sent by ry4n)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I dig this! it seems very like, up my alley, so Iām a little surprised Iāve never heard it before, but thanks for the discovery! like that chorus is just some great pop haha. great pick! (8.7)
Samo: I really need to check out more of The Banglesā music if this and Walk Like An Egyptian are any indication, huh. The song is a lot of fun, even with the frustration in the lyrics, and the chorus is particularly catchy. (8.1)
jamesflame: Lyrically, Manic Monday is a bit cheesy, but vocally, it's great. I love the upbeat production with the slightly less upbeat lyrics. It's a fun song, even when the lyrics aren't exactly happy. Kinda like what Third Eye Blind did with Semi-Charmed Life. I could easily see Prince doing this a bit better, but The Bangles are a solid group from what I've heard and I enjoyed this a good bit. (7.3)
Geometrical: Great 80s pop - Some nice piano and synth arrangements, and especially pleasant vocal harmonies. The Bangles have better, but this is still pleasant. (7.2)
Overall Score: 31.3
you two are off to a decent start finishing right around the middle of the pack. you'll get a +1.6 bonus next round
