Surprised there wasn't a thread yet!

Not a whole lot of action this week from any new releases. Run the Jewels have a new album, Lil Wayne released the deluxe edition of his last album, XXX and YG have new songs. That's about it. I don't think any of these releases are going to do a whole lot unless any of the protest songs manage to latch on. (There are a lot this week.)

He originally made it when he was 17. As for the music video thing what I heard is he did it on purpose because he knew everyone wanted to see the music video for Look At Me but he switched it to Riot halfway through so people heard the message.

^^Because major music labels extended their Blackout Tuesday to song and album releases today, there were not that many from well-known artists. Maybe someone will release something midweek.

"B-Sides" got their name because they were literally the other ("B") side of a vinyl or cassette single. Usually they were just instrumental versions of the A-side or an album track, but some acts like Prince and Bruce Springsteen released new songs unavailable anywhere else (like Prince's classic "Erotic City" was only available as the B-side to the "Let's Go Crazy" single, and Springsteen's famous "Pink Cadillac" was only issued on the flip side of "Dancing In The Dark"). Original B-sides like that made buying singles worthwhile for fans who already had the album with the A-side. And it was a way for prolific artists to release more material in the days before you could just post new songs online as they were recorded.

In the digital age that physical distinction between A- and B-sides has been lost, and songs that would once have been B-sides have been rebranded as "loosies" or are tossed onto an EP or mixtape. Take Drake's "Scary Hours" Ep for example: it consisted of "God's Plan" and "Diplomatic Immunity". In the old days, "God's Plan" would have been released as a physical single with "Diplomatic Immunity" as the B-Side (an original B-Side, since it wasn't included on Scorpion). Most of Drake's loosies and EP tracks would likely have been B-sides back in the day. if XXX's "Look At Me!" had been released as a single, "Riot" would probably have been the B-side.

The difference is 101K, Lil Baby will be ahead of The Weeknd when the year ends. If Drake drops an album in the summer, he will top the list. As for Billboard 200 Album of the Year idk.

Lil Baby is basically the trap Nickelback at this point: by no means the worst in the scene, he's tolerable at best - idk if there's ever been a Lil Baby song that's made me angry beyond annoyance and boredom, but that doesn't mean it's good music and it's still baffling he and other Young Thug ilk are getting such a push from the industry and even mainstream outlets.

Like if Grace was a top 20 hit (which it should be) I'd actually be glad, but in terms of disposable trap, there are still a laundry list of names I'd rather see get multiple hits.

I would take Lil Baby over any of the bands charting on the rock charts though. Nickelback-lite like Bad Wolves, long standing trash like Five Finger or Falling in Reverse, or rappers first attempt at rock, I'd easily binge all of Lil Baby's albums before I listen to any of those acts
