it’s not my 100, but very surprised that Alan Parsons is still in this "Standing On Higher Ground" was actually my favorite first listen from this rankdown.

60. Ghost on the Beach (74): Another song I wasn't sure where to rank, maybe because I couldn't hear it as often as other first-listens in this RD. Now that I'm listening to it again, yup, I under-ranked it. Sorry. 59. On the Western Skyline (95): This was too AC, plus very mediocre for Bruce Hornsby. Where's the piano? Should've left much earlier. 58. Come as You Are (43): I had ranked it about 10 spots higher in Modern Rock. I still find it catchy and uplifting. Like That Ain't Love, this was the last time PW made it to my personal chart, and peaked in my top 5. 57. Don't Mean Nothing (93): YES! Another bottom 10! I HATED the melody back in '87 and I find the music mediocre too. 56. I Want to Make the World Turn Around (57): This was an interesting discovery. The lyrics were but I did like the music. The sax and guitar sounds were the highlights, but I also liked the more ethereal vibe that contrasted those sounds. 55. We're Ready (55): PERFECT!! This made my personal top 30 back in the day, but just for a few weeks. I like the more classic 70s vibe, but Can'tcha was my favorite. 54. Should've Known Better (47): Unlike DMN, I really liked this one. It reminded me a bit of Kenny Loggins (I'm Free vibes). Catchy, nice bridge, nice guitars here and there, and good melody overall. 53. Cherry Bomb (27): Awwww. I used to not care much for this or Paper, but with time I grew to really appreciate the melody, instrumental, Southern feel, and in this case the lovely female vocals. 52. Johnny B. (75): The intro was great! But then the melody and sound didn't quite gel with me. 51. Jammin' Me (66): This fit better in this list, but I could only rank it +10 spots higher. Vocals are still a big turnoff. 50. Mandolin Rain (69): Interestingly, I ranked this at #71 in the Hot 100 RD...and I felt it fit better in that RD. I mean, it has a nice melody and instrumental, but it sounded far too AC for Mainstream. 49. Rag Doll (25): Come on, now! Aerosmith should already be having better Mainstream Rock performances. This is a classic of the genre that still sounds great now. 48. Jane's Getting Serious (100): I downgraded it from Modern Rock because I felt it fit worse here. In any case, I'm astonished at how this managed to rank higher than the much more interesting, exciting, cool Put The Love To The Test. 47. One Slip (70): Music was cool, but the melody went progressively downhill from verse to chorus, and ended up a bit underwhelming. I may need a few more listens though --more listens helped me like their other song much better. 46. Heat of the Night (23): THE best song of this BA era. A harder rocker with strong melody and instrumental. 45. Good Times (16): Oh! I ranked this in my top 10 for the INXS RD. This wasn't played in pop radio back in '87, but I discovered it a couple years later when their videos from X were played often in music TV channels. I really liked -and like- the high energy, instrumental, melody. 44. Should I See (51): Very nice discovery! Sounding like classic new wave, sophistipop stuff. 43. Dirty Water (45): So this won "most improved" prize. I did a 180 here, and ended up liking it much more than few weeks ago when I ranked this in my 80s for the Modern Rock chart. The Tears-for-Fears vibe clicked with me this time. 42. The Finer Things (37): Nice melody and classic 80s sound. Btw, Valerie would've very likely made my top 10 in this RD. 41. Who Will You Run To (61): I'm a big Heart fan, but I didn't find this melody memorable. Vocals are always great of course, and the instrumental is good, so at least I could take those factors much more into account for this ranking. I see that I had ranked it at #98 in the Hot 100 RD

“Ready Or Not” & “These Times Are Hard For Lovers” have long been guilty pleasures of mine. And they still deliver today! absolutely. RoN is cheesy, but fun. I think John Waite got a raw deal w/ many of his singles - and don't get me started w/ his marvelous If Anybody Had a Heart from the About Last Night soundtrack. That was criminally overlooked. Thank you. I was gonna mention that one on my post, but figured no one would remember it.
