Post album singles are hit or miss most of the time. Some smash, some flop. It's especially difficult to attain success as a 6th single from an album rollout. What are some of the most successful 6th singles?

I don’t think that there are many 6th singles out there.

"Out of the Woods" - Taylor Swift "Wait A Minute" - The Pussycat Dolls "If Everyone Cared" - Nickelback "New Rules" - Dua Lipa (I think it was the sixth single) "Symphony" - Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson was the sixth single from Zara's album
Some of these were clearly less successful than others.

If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know) by The 1975 was the sixth song to be released before its album. Some would call it the sixth single, but it was only the third one that got a proper push to radio. It became their highest charting song in the UK ever. It also outpeaked the previous highest from that album by 21 spots on the chart. I’d say it was the sixth single because I heard all the songs released before it on the radio at least once

I would say the 6th single from Michael Jackson's Thriller album. Not sure if it was PYT or Human Nature?

Janet's 6th single from "Control" was "Pleasure Principle". It reached num.14 on The Hot 100. I feel like it was bigger than a couple of her Top 10 hits.

Is Janet's Love Will Never Do (Without You) the only 7th single to hit no. 1 Hot 100? (without re-release) to date?

If you count re-releases and EPs tacked onto albums:
Rihanna - Disturbia Lady Gaga - Bad Romance (or Telephone in the US) Ke$ha - Blow

Ms. Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation 1814' CD produced 7 top 5 singles and five #1 singles, an unprecedented achievement which has never been duplicated as Scott Shannon has pointed out numerous times through the years on his wonderful 'America's Greatest Hits' syndicated show.
Black Cat and Love Will Never Do Without You, which were the 6th and 7th singles from that stellar CD, both reached #1 at R&R/Mediabase.
Michael's 'Thriller' CD produced two #1 singles in Billie Jean & Beat It, as well as a third single 'The Girl Is Mine' which peaked at #2, and 7 top 10 singles overall.
George Michael's 'Faith' CD produced 6 top 5 singles and 4 #1 singles, and the sixth single (Monkey) hit #1.

Nicki’s fly is either the 6th or 7th single depending on how you count it. Beyoncé’s sweet dreams was a 6th single. Taylor’s everything has changed was a 6th single.

I love the fact that Janet's eras ran six or more singles deep, and a number of these sixth or seventh singles were smash hits. Amazing. As mentioned here, I love 'Pleasure Principle' from Control and 'Love Will Never Do (Without You)' from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814.
In general, I think it's cool to note successful sixth singles. I wish album eras nowadays spanned that long.

Opposites Attract was her SEVENTH single and as you said that went #1. What an amazing run from one album!

Wow my favorite fact is that New Rules was a SIXTH SINGLE?! Wild. And they still gave us IDGAF after that! Other than Taylor, how many people have had seventh singles?

I'm not downing the success of Dua Lipa's "6th" single or any newer artists but all newer artists put out 3 or 4 songs before the album comes out. Back in the day you put out 1 song and the 2nd came with the album release. It's a bit different in my opinion. Many artists today put out 5 standalone singles than tack it onto an album. That's different. Sorry. I know it's new day, new way to consume music etc but that's not a 6th single from a project?

Janet is the only artist who I can think of that had 2 or more albums where the later singles actually performed better than the earlier ones. It was a weird occurrence where her eras received a recharge around the 5th single.
