I only say that because itโs โmomentโ with the remix was in March. Everyone knew about it then. Panini was more of a SOTS tbh. The summer was weird tho. In chart points obviously it was OTR but I donโt think people really listened to OTR June-Aug the same way they did March-May? Itโs radio kept it big over the summer. I feel like Seรฑorita, I donโt care, hot girl summer, hot shower, you need to calm down, cross me, beautiful people, groceries, all make more sense? yeah but if a song is inescapable on radio like OTR was, then it felt bigger than those at that time. Yes the initial impact was in April, but it felt huge in all those weeks |

A song can be a summer song (beyond what the charts dictate) simply by being omnipresent during the summer. For me, if it reminds me of summer simply because I heard it predominately in the summer, or even is a song that would sound good on a summer mix, I might consider it a summer song. Like so many other things, there arenโt really any rules so weโd really just have a chart like Billboardโs summer chart to go off of in a technical sense. But music is flexible and personal so there are no actual rules.

Regardless of how one defines a summer song, there will never be a better summer song than California Gurls. I've said it before in other threads, but that song just SCREAMS summer. I honestly feel like once I look back on the summer of 2020, my mind will jump to Watermelon Sugar, not Rockstar. Itโs too bad it didnโt get a bigger push at the start of summer or I think it probably would have had a better chance at the claiming the title :/
