Top 5? hard to say but I’d go for divas: Secret, Hero, Power of Love, Sign. Maybe Regulate and Philadelphia as underdogs? Bottom 5? Please some R Kelly. I couldn’t stomach hearing either song more than once as the lyrics take a whole new meaning now... Never Lie, Don’t Take the girl, So much in love, Now and forever. I hope the latter, Bolton, Joshua, and the other Tim escape bottom 10, but may be too much to ask for this crowd Most top? Ace of base and Mariah

1. What songs do you expect to see in the top 5? Tom Petty , Erasure, Gin Blossoms and most definitely Bon Jovi. Unless everyone traded in their heart for a wad of cash that Epic ballad with beautiful lyrics must prevail. 2. What songs do you expect to see in the bottom 5? - Hopefully some of the travesties I tanked, but you guys will probably tank Michael Bolton, R.(should have dated the hot older babes in his videos instead) Kelly, and someone always is gonna tank something in my top 10 that is Hard Rock related. BTW, I didn't tank the rap jams with cool funky retro vibes. Just so you know. Also why in Hades would "Now and Forever" even be considered as a tankable candidate?
3. Which artist/group will have the most Top 40 entries? - Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. Especially since they ended up with even more songs on this list then they should have. Do I agree? No, but it's gonna happen.

Top 5: At least one song in my bottom 10, probably.

Wow, you guys sound way more harsher on R. Kelly's 1994 songs than I will ever be. Listened to both of his songs this year. They certainly haven't aged well and I can't fully endorse an R. Kelly song that isn't "Ignition" but at the same time, I can't really call them both bottom five worthy either. I always try to imagine a "favorite" R. Kelly song as a B-list Ginuwine song anyways.
Meanwhile, on the converse side, I'm harsher on some of the older artists this year like Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, and Madonna (Secret is tolerable but I'll Remember always bores the crap out of me). Not all of them were bad, mind you, but compared to how great all three were in the '80s, their songs this year felt like complete letdowns.
In general though, all those three artists are better than Rape Kelly in every way. F**k R. Kelly.

"Never Lie" was a nice trip down memory lane. I was a lot more forgiving of the cheesiness since it's kids singing. Also loved the song at the time because I was obsessed with Sister, Sister. I hope to see something from my bottom 20 at least next!
Edit: Not surprised to see Joshua Kadison next. I was surprised that this song even made the top 100 of the year and peaked at 19! I had only ever heard it on the top 40, and it barely cracked the top 30. I guess longevity and AC airplay helped? I would've much rather been ranking "Movin' On Up" by M People, or even "I'd Give Anything" by Gerald Levert (which had to be really close to the top 100).

Well, I'm glad to be wrong about Immature. I felt bad for tanking actual kids, but I put the blame on everyone BUT the kids with "Never Lie". The song is an abject disaster.
"Beautiful In My Eyes" is just standard bad, lame adult contemporary. I think I reacted more negatively to lame AC even more than usual here, because I expected better from this list, and the fact that a decent chunk of the list is full of songs as lame and white bread as "Beautiful In My Eyes" disappointed me.

"Beautiful In My Eyes" was so painfully mediocre.

Wasn't Beautiful In My Eyes a top 10 pop hit? Or close to it? It made Casey's Top 40 yearend too. Jessie is so much more unbearable though.

Oh that’s much lower. Maybe it was Jessie that did better? I think Jessie was between years though whereas Beautiful was early 1994 so maybe that’s why only that one made the year end.

The A-side/B-side single system Billboard implemented through the '90s is gonna make these lists awkward now, isn't it? Be glad you guys aren't at 1996 yet because there were a LOT of double single songs that year.
Never heard of "Never Lie" and I don't want to either because it sounds weak af.

I would've much rather been ranking "Movin' On Up" by M People me too, awesome song!!! Probably woulda been my #4, behind a couple of other Brits (and one US). A few others from 94 I would've loved to rank: Dream On Dreamer - Brand New Heavies It's Over Now - Cause & Effect Sending My Love - Zhane I Want You - Juliet Roberts U Send Me Swingin' - Mint Condition SO MANY!

Very pleasantly surprised at that last place, and a perfect ranking to top it off. Great reveals, so far!

102. Never Lie (99): It has always been mediocre to me, and the vocals and lyrics didn't help at all. Clear bottom 5. 101. Beautiful In My Eyes (69): I remember hearing this first in the (AC) Casey's Countdown and then see it fly up that chart. I thought it sounded like a modern Elton John type of classic ballad, and the lyrics albeit cheesy grabbed me back then, to the point that it reached the top 3 of my personal chart. I still like the melody and lyrics, and the gospel-like choir. Not surprised at this being tanked so much, but I honestly consider it miles better than my bottom 10.

#102. Never Lie - Immature This had a pleasant enough melody. I had no problem with their vocals as they are growing into their manly ones. Kinda sounded like new Edition when they first started. ironically it kinda sounded a bit on the mature side for me, but not -100 material.
#101.Beautiful In My Eyes - Joshua Kadison His vocal tones were actually pretty decent. He didn't sound like a wuss, and his tones were ear friendly. Now the song itself was pretty boring. Its really not his fault this was a 90's production. I think if this song was produced in the 80's it would have added a lot more instrumantal strength.

Not upset, but thought this would've beat "Indian Outlaw". This song was better in my memory than it was when I re-listened. The vocals are not fun.

To be expected as there are very few fans of country music amongst the group here besides myself.

The fact that either R. Kelly song escaped the bottom 5 is beyond disgusting. :sip2:

Believe it or not it was the song "Indian Outlaw" that really launched Tim's career and catapulted him from being just another male country singer with a hat. This was certainly a very risky choice as a lead single, but Tim's gut instinct ended up proving right.
