Well, this was a bittersweet set of reveals. I got rid of my #91 and #99, but I also lost a few high ranks. "Got Me Waiting" definitely deserved better, whether the original or the remix (I preferred the one on YouTube, which I believe is the original).

Always is amazing, one of my fave songs from Bon Jovi. I remember it being huge, especially in UK.

The "Baby, I Love Your Way" cover is just such a nothing take on the song. "Oh, hey, look, it's reggae now." That's the appeal of the song.
I will admit that "I Can See Clearly Now" is only as high as it is because of Cool Runnings.
God, I hate mid-90's Bon Jovi. I used to think that "Always" was as bad as it could get for Jon, but "Bed of Roses" in the previous year may have been worse, because it felt like it was going on for at least 15 minutes. "Always" is bad, but it doesn't feel excruciatingly long.

I love the Total Eclipse cover. While it was my introduction to the song, I also love the original. I LOVED the original back in '83. But I appreciated the cover, too. I used it some for about a decade, and I wouldn't mind hearing it again, but I've only used the original for the past decade.

It's a strong contender for my Best of 1993 list once I get around to that year on my blog.

I honestly can say I never heard or even remember most of these songs. I swear that "jon" All 4 One had horrible vocals. The chicks from Xscape had nice tones. The songs were pretty smooth, but they had horrible horrible sense of fashion. "Baby I Love Your Way" was pretty terrible. I wasn't even a fan of Will To Power's version, but this one's past the point of ear grating. Ahamd. first time listen sounds like a discount doggy dog song.
The only two songs I knew and loved were "Always" and "Amazing" and my short review of both songs is...
that Aerosmith and Bon jovi are Always Amazing.

I respectfully disagree about Bon Jovi if only because i didn't like their Have A Nice Day/Who Says You Can't Go Home era

80. Understanding (77): I didn't recall this song. It had a nice, smooth vibe, with good vocals, but I just didn't find it that memorable. 79. I Swear (38): I liked this song quite a bit back in '94, reaching the top of my personal chart. I was really captured by the melody and production, and I didn't mind the vocals. I still like it, as this has some good memories, too, although I can totally see how it could be considered too cheesy now. Btw, this was a hit back home, including in Spanish-only radio stations thanks to their Spanish version.
78. Amazing (2): !!!!!!!! WOWOWOWWWW!!!!! Very surprised and disappointed at this song leaving this early. Like WTF?? I knew this could have a few tankers, so I ended up ranking it a couple of spots higher to support it further, but I really didn't think it'd be a bottom quarter (or that it'd have only two top 5s). The instrumental and melody are those of a classic 70s ballad. Vocals and harmonies are great as expected, and the overall production is solid. This was a personal chart-topper with great longevity and in my yearend top 10. It was also a big hit in rock and pop stations --although overall not as big as Crazy. 77. Baby, I Love Your Way (78): The original is a classic. This was fun but reductive. It was a minor hit back home and a top 10 in my personal chart.
76. Back In The Day (100): Another discovery. The vocals here were really annoying. And the instrumental and melody were meh. Clear bottom of the barrel to me, that I would've ranked #102 if I hadn't downgraded R Kelly's songs due to RK. 75. Just Kickin' It (93): This chick should never use her lower register. She sounds pretty bad, and the NKOTB ballad sound didn't help. Clear bottom 10 once again for me.
74. I'm Ready (75): He sounds better here than in Always...., the music and production are good, but the melody wasn't that strong to me. 73. I Can See Clearly Now (60): I found this a good cover that adequately and genuinely transformed the original into a reggae-influenced cover. This made my personal top 10, too.
72. Always (8): !!!!! Second disappointment in this reveal. Why the hate toward this song? Too much emotion or too strong vocals? (if so, how is the Endless Love cover still around?) Too long of a song? (there's a radio edit, too, you know?) Too romantic of a song? Whatever. This is a solid power ballad, with great vocals, strong instrumental that goes from tender to epic, and with heartfelt lyrics. One of my top 5 favorite BJ songs. It reached the top of my personal chart for a couple of weeks and made my yearend top 20. 71. Got Me Waiting (85): This was a discovery to me. The production is good and the melody, especially in the chorus, is nice, but this is another case of underwhelming vocals (?). Maybe a few more vocals could've made me warmed up to it a bit more.

Always was a song I liked quite a lot at the time. I remember it was a huge #2 hit on pop radio (the CHR chart was the only one I knew of pre-internet so it’s what I followed) and I think even now is my second favourite Bon Jovi song behind Who Says You Can’t Go Home. I don’t go out of my way to hear it but it’s a nice burst of nostalgia.
If You Go is the same. It reminds me so much of summer time 1994 and while I probably wouldn’t have cared about it if it were released at any other point, because it was released in 94 I have a soft spot for it. Sad to see it out this early. :(

I knew the last Tevin song couldn't survive much longer. I expect Babyface to lose his last one soon. I also think Elton, Ice Cube, and Da Brat are in danger.

Well, at least the other Meat Loaf song is doing fine so far. I never did get the hate for "I'd Do Anything for Love". If I had done this rankdown, it would make my Top 20 for sure. Maybe even Top 10 if I was daring.

One of my friends is Canadian and loves the hell out of the Crash Test Dummies and even he thinks America chose the wrong song to represent this band with.

I don’t know enough about Meatloaf to care but I do quite enjoy Rock N Roll Dreams Come True. My favourite of his though might be I’d Lie For You And That’s The Truth, which I realize is more or less a rehash of I Would Do Anything For Love - it’s practically a parody of himself but I enjoy it.
The crash test dummies were one of my first favourite bands when I was a kid. I finally got to see them live in concert last November lol. But yeah, they have odd songs and when I learned (after the fact) that Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm was the big hit in the US for them, I thought it was so random. A, because Canadians rarely had big hits outside of Canada unless you were Bryan Adams or Celine Dion, and because by the time I got into their music later in 1994, they didn’t seem to be that big. There are other songs on their album I liked more but I feel like The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead should have done something. 😬

Yes! I love The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead. Mostly because one of my first CD’s was the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack. I hadn’t yet gotten into popular music so I didn’t know anything besides Jock Jams so when my mom offered to buy me a CD I was like, I dunno I like the movie Dumb and Dumber I’ll just get this. That was my favorite off that soundtrack.

A lot of the alternative-leaning songs are very of the time but I still love them!

On second thought, maybe I shouldn't have ranked this so low. It's not that bad, but I can't say I really care for it. Around 20 spots higher would have been more appropriate.
