If this can comfortably reach Top 15 I think we'll be safe from another Lover era disappointment on Pop radio That's assuming the callouts aren't horrible.

I expect stellar callouts on HAC but Pop is a wildcard. They could consider it too slow even though the song is basically harmless.

This is kind of going differently than I thought it would, with iTunes sales being sort of mediocre (combined around #12-13) and streaming being fantastic. This type of song usually gives the opposite outcome.

This type of song usually gives the opposite outcome. I don't follow charts/sales/streaming as much as most on here, but sales are probably "bad" because close to a million people have already purchased the entire album. If the album wasn't out, I would have to guess at least half of those people would have purchased the single. For artists like Taylor who sell album sales so much, I don't think single sales tell the whole story. I'd rather have this sell like it is and have her album be selling like crazy, than vice versa.

See now this progression (slowing) is much more what I expected out of this song. Like, release week hype is enough to take it top 30, but it isn't really the type of song that is meant to dominate pop radio and I don't see it going much further than top 20 the further out from the album release we get. Regardless, I think she has something special in "Exile" that can turn into a one-off "Say Something" 2020 type success, particularly for fall, and considering this is a folk project, I'd be more than happy with one successful radio single, great album sales, and critical reverence.

I would've said the same about Someone You Loved though.

I kinda have a feeling that this will do better on Pop then what we are preparing for. I feel like if lover didn't follow 'Me!' and YNTCD it would have faired better.

The only issue last era in terms of the first 3 singles was "Me!" IMO. Had "YNTCD" been lead or followed say "Cruel Summer" things would have been set up a lot better on pop radio IMO. They gave "Lover" one hell of a push either way, particularly compared to the other singles, so who knows. Tbh on first listen "Lover" didn't scream pop radio hit to me (when it was a promotional release), but given its glowing reception I thought it might have had more potential to grow. I think they pushed it as hard as they could've all things considered.

I recall YNTCD having pretty appalling callouts as well no? It did quite well as a single, but I don't think that song did her any favours with CHR listeners. But to be fair I feel like most Taylor songs over recent years don't do that well on callouts. Anyways it's still early days yet with this one. At the end of the day this went #1, everything else is just icing.

Yeah pretty much all her singles Rep forward had poor callout (even Delicate's callout wasn't amazing for its run all things considered from what I remember). I feel like "YNTCD" was a necessary release for Taylor and gave her a vehicle to speak out in support of the LGBTQ community in a way she wanted, helped try and spur change via the equality act, helped publicly end her feud with Katy, and got her a VMA for video of the year etc. The good from its release outweighs the bad callouts. lol Unlike "Me!" which literally had zero point other than it made her feel happy. lol

I hope this won't miss the chance to be included on the Hot 100 yearend of the 2020 so she would have entry/ies each year from 2007 or 2008.

So this song is already dead on streaming. Down to 13th in US spotify in just two weeks. Youtube, Itunes also dead. Very weak for a Taylor Swift lead single. She surprised me and made something more mediocre than ME!.
With this performance and considering how it sounds, the only logical result is this also flopping on radio.
And for anyone saying it doesn't matter because folklore is doing good on streaming, well it did on first week. Now it's pulling only 9% higher than Lover on its 15th day. And Lover was a streaming underperformance.

The playlist support for this on Spotify is insanely low. Somehow, Maroon 5's new song is above this on Today's Top Hits despite the fact that it isn't doing nearly as well.

Republic sucks when it comes to her playlisting... at least the radio updates are good!
