Her Pop career has already peaked. She's having problems getting radio airplay the last couple of eras. Don't think that Taylor really cares because she's more of an albums artist.

I'm gonna be honest I was not expecting this song to even make it as far as #17 Ditto tbh. I knew the huge updates would be fleeting given the song itself and even moreso given her track record in the last 4 years. Could we *really* imagine this song (a song relying on atmosphere and mood as opposed to hooks and trendy production) sitting alongside the top 10 on pop? lol Her only shot at another top 20 pop radio hit this era is "the 1" or "exile" (IF it could follow a "Say Something" one-off type path given its popularity and near-universal praise). |

This is a great song just can't believe the interest in this has died down so fast, it is dropping fast on Spotify and Apple Music at the moment. The song is officially one month old and got overshadowed by all the new releases, the only good news is that the album is doing great still overall. Another Remix of this song would be the best idea to get interest back.

This is a great song just can't believe the interest in this has died down so fast, it is dropping fast on Spotify and Apple Music at the moment. Perhaps this flew up the charts too quickly and failed to connect with listeners immediately, as would be needed for it to keep up it’s initial momentum. There is nothing wrong with the song itself, besides the fact that it needed to find a home on playlists immediately when slower songs like this tend rise in a more steady manner. This sounds like a slow riser to a November top 10 hit if I’m being quite honest. There is not much that could have been done correctly though, as the album was a surprise and had massive hype. Sometimes hype can be an artist’s worst enemy though. |

I don’t think anything else from the album will really hit, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s not a pop or radio-friendly album yet it’s still doing its thing. I’m sure the overall plan for the album took all this into account. I’d say it’ll do more for her career and legacy than more radio hits would.

I think "the 1" is the obvious choice for next single, but I would be okay if she didn't push anything else to pop. This album is clearly not meant for the radio. I also think it's suffering from a dissonance between Taylor's superstardom and the style of music she's putting out. "cardigan" could have been a slow-climbing radio hit (not a No. 1 debut on Hot 100) had it come from an unknown indie singer, but Taylor's name changes the chart life of the song. Perhaps after stalling in this region, it can gain steadily enough to outpeak "Lover"? That's all I want to see, really.

I think exile is currently charting on HAC at #48. Yep. HOT AC53 48 TAYLOR SWIFT exile f/Bon Iver 49 47 2 0.238 Interesting given that pop seems to want "the 1" instead while "exile" is the AAA single. Given how closely hot AC has been following pop the last few years, it's weird to see them side with AAA here. "cardigan" is definitely going top ten on hot AC, though, so I guess hot AC just wants to stan Taylor. |

the 1 is probably my least favorite from folklore (though its still good) but yeah after giving it a listen its probably the most pop friendly song in the album

“Objectively a better song.” 👀  Subjectively, I literally think Exile is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. Is it radio friendly in the traditional sense? Absolutely not. I’m loving the comparisons I see to Shallow though and I could totally see it doing something similar with a proper push. I’d rather see an attempt at something than Cardigan at #17-15 on pop for the next two months. Ideally of course, I’d love for Cardigan to succeed (even more), but it’s already done so much, I’m not sure what else could push it up on the format. |
