TL&DiLA is my favorite Wang Chung song...it creates an atmosphere that is haunting & even though i've never seen the movie, i'd imagine it works quite well in that context

{FREE TIP: IF YOU REVEAL EARLY, MORE THAN LIKELY, YOU GET A WORD WALL}#85: This isn't particularly great, but it's still a solid leap ahead of the other two Stones songs. #84: Spoiler: The next time we rank Joe, he's not finishing bottom twenty. I think. #83: Like ZZ Top, Journey fell off of a cliff in record time. Their fall was less steep than ZZ Top's, but it was still rough. #82: ...okay, sure #81: ...okay, sure #80: The wrong one is highest. #79: I understood what they were going for, but ZZ Top should not be making slower songs, certainly not at this point. They had a niche, and this was not it. #78: I find it a little funny that Seger has yet to escape the bottom 30. Might be a while before he does, at this point. #77: Please just transport us to 1983 already. #76: I try to give this song a chance, all the time, especially given that I actually do really like "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"...but I just can't get into this one. It's a little TOO cheesy. Not "We Built This City" cheesy, but cheesy. #75: I'm not going to be treating Huey this poorly often. I've just always disliked this. This is one instance where Huey took his goofiness too far. #74: To be honest, I'm surprised that there weren't all that many cheesetacular songs here. This decidedly fit the bill, though. #73: This was fine. #72: Okay, this one, I don't get. Is it top tier Petty? Lord, no. Is it still Petty, with a bit of energy? Absolutely. #71: I'm surprised I didn't rank this higher here, but this RD wound up being a little better than I expected overall.
Wait, my #91 is still in? What did I rank there? checks Oh...right.

Five years later, when Dokken met Disney, The Party scored a Top 40 hit out of left field. This cover of "In My Dreams" peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 25, 1992: I wonder what Doc thinks of this cover?
Honestly, I kind of dig it, because the key in which Dokken wrote the song is what got me hooked in the first place, and this cover is performed in the same key. The song translated to pop surprisingly well, and the vocal harmony is good too. It also goes to show that, unlike most people under 30 today, even Mouseketeers appreciated rock and metal music back then. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) For some reason youtube doesn't let me see this music video. I'm wondering if that's bad that even Don Dokken had to make sure I couldn't watch it.

85. One Hit (To the Body) - The Rolling Stones I can't understand anyone putting all three of these Rolling Stones songs in the same range. They were all extremely different to one another. This one crept into their Alternative rock tone, and I think they did a pretty good job with it. The reason it just missed my top 50 is because there really isn't much difference between the melody keys of the verses and chorus.
84. Right and Wrong - Joe Jackson This song was completely awful to my ears on the Alternative Rd so it barely hung on the list here. Nice to see my #99 out early now let's do the same with my #100.
83. Be Good to Yourself - Journey Well there goes my highest ranking Journey song on this list. The whole 'Raised On The Radio" LP really sounded like the band just going through the motions. Steve Perry took hold of a lot of the production, and I think he brought that "Street Talk" vibe with him. It was good for his Pop solo LP, but it stripped the band from their classic radio rock format vibe. I can't quite explain it, but you can hear it in these songs.
82. A Matter of Trust - Billy Joel I never really got used to Billy Joel on Album Rock format. This song is a bit more guitar oriented, but still feels a little odd on the list. His song were really good for the Pop charts. He had a knack for writing amazing pop songs.
81. Minutes to Memories - John Mellencamp This was a first time listen on a list that was jammed pack with rock favorites of 1986. Good songs with good rock vibes sometimes gotta take a backseat too.
80. Suzanne - Journey Another pretty forgettable song from 'Raised On Radio". Steve Perry's vocal range upgrades it a bit, but not enough to crack my top 50.
79. Rough Boy - ZZ Top I didn't like this song at all ,and the production of this whole album was Starship worthy. Not that Starship sounded bad, but if you are not Starship please refrain from trying to sound like them. A ZZ Top rock ballad was not a good idea.
78. American Storm - Bob Seger Much better song for Bob Seger. The whole lyrical structure and feel of the song really screams Bob Seger. I'm just not one of his biggest supporters musically.
77. Girl Can't Help It - Journey This one was pretty decent. Sounds like Steve was trying to capture that adult rock audience with this one. The melody had a bit of "Who's Crying Now" mystic night aura about it, but Neil Schon progressively turns it into another guitar jamming session. At times it feels like he is playing a whole different song, and the contrast didn't quite work for me.
76. Sara - Starship It felt odd ranking this song on a list other than a pop list, but it is one of my favorite songs from the band. If I was to introduce someone to Adult Rock I would surely choose this song. Musically speaking their are instrumental wonders going on within this production. I was happy I could squeeze it into my top 40.
75. Stuck With You - Huey Lewis & the News Another one that felt a little off on the list, but Huey delivers the vocal magic every time. I know the band falls under Poprock, but there was a strong Blued Eyed Rock n 'Soul sound to their music that was extra attractive once you get the feel for it. I'll probably have a few top 10's from the band once we get into that 'Sports' era.
74. Somebody's Out There - Triumph An album rock format favorite of the early 80's. My dad had a couple of their early 70's albums in his collection and I remember hearing them in the house all the time. This one sounded more like a Night Ranger song, but that is easily the reason immediately fell right into its melodic wave. The song has such a great uplifting feel to it that I was destined to be the one to give it the highest ranking. This was also their highest performing song on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #27.
73. All the King's Horses - The Firm This song was pretty good. The intro was starting to sound like an Asia song and I was getting ready for that epic feel in a song. Unfortunately the chorus kinda brings it down to regular ground level. It still a pretty good song, but it never really hits that apex I anticipated from those synths in the intro.
72. So You Want to Be a Rock 'N' Roll Star - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Tom putting his own spin of this cover made me like it way more than the original. I actually think The Byrds' version is a still a tad faster, but Tom's production add a bit more power. In the end its not really a favorite song of mine, so there is only so much I could do with it here.
71. Tuff Enuff - The Fabulous Thunderbirds This is one of those songs that sounds so much better while viewing the music video. It definitely had a stronger Rock vibe than a Modern Rock one, but I always felt that Southern Rock vibe of the song sounded a little forced. I forgave it for the First Rank Down, but it started to feel a little fake the second time around. Add to that the fact that Jon Thunderbird's vocals are anything ,but fabulous and this one took a n unexpected tumble on my list.

Nobody can watch it, because the upload was already deleted. Here's a working link well... If this had been the first time I heard this song and thought it was an original from this group I would say I like it a lot. It works ,because the song has a relatively a catchy melody to begin with. Hair/Glam Metal songs are ultra catchy which is why I love the genre. However since I know this was a Dokken original I can't help wondering why they soled out to this Power Rangers wannabees?

I guess I like this generation of Journey more than most. ![:-S](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wavey.png) It's their last album together until 1996, and clearly they were running out of steam. Mike Stone who produced both Escape and Frontiers wasn't even present on this album. Steve Perry wasn't the best choice for producer as most of the songs on the record sounded like an extension of "Oh Sherry". Another obvious change in sound was the absence of founding member and prime bassist Ross Valory. Journey was actually down to three prime band members. Schon, Caine and Perry. The rest were session replacements. You can't expect to put out a classic Journey record when your musical foundation is filled in with pebbles instead of rock hard concrete. You can hear it in the album's music which to me sounds like it was doused with a bunch of sugar. Basically sounding like they would have been better off used as soundtrack music for an 80's romantic comedy. I'll always try to give Journey a high rank, but when I find it difficult to squeeze them into my top half of a rock RD then you know I'm not feeling stone in love with this "Raised On Radio" material. ...and with that thought I'm gonna check out some extras before I call it a night. Swallowed by the Cracks - David & DavidThis one is a whole lot better than "Welcome To Boomtown". I didn't realize how Heartland the band actually sounded until just now. Could have been a Bruce Springsteen 1984 era song. I would have given this a much better rank than I gave "..Boomtown" Dangerous
- LoverboyI love Loverboy. My favorite Canadian Rock band. Even more Than Nickelback. Question? How high will I rank "Lovin' Every Minute of It"? So this song is good. Miles away from "Hot Girls In Love" , but still strong album rock which was pretty much my movie soundtrack before Glam/Hair took me by storm. I'm thinking I would have ranked this one in my top 30 by memory alone , but would have listened to just to remind me how great it is. Le Bel Age - Pat BenatarThis song never did much to me on a Pat Benatar level. She sounds great, but subdued st the same time. Question WTF does that MV have to do with the song? Detroit Diesel
- Alvin LeeWell this first time listen certainly had a southern Trucker rock vibe to it. It's basically one of those songs that has rehashed that melody a thousand times before. You know which one. "Old Time Rock N' Roll". Which was probably rehashed one hundred times before that. If you were not tired of it by 1986 then this is definitely your cup of tea. Woke up With Wood
- ZZ Top...and speaking of rehashing your same three big hits with all the newest in drum machine technology mixed in here we have self proclaimed Southern Rock gods ZZ Top. Love the song title. Hey look at that its "Sharp Dressed Man" rehashed for the 100th time. What are the odds of that happening on a ZZ Top album? The song is actually pretty good to me, but how many fumes can you squeeze out of the same song? To Live and Die in L.A. - Wang ChungThe best Wang Chung songs were never the actual hits. This one and "Fire In The Twilight" were both used in movie soundtracks. Both great movies BTW. If you haven't see the film of the same name, and you love this song you should check out the movie. The soundtrack consists of Wang Chung music from start to finish. The band wrote the song for the film that is why is captures that gritty Crime drama theme to the note. Everytime You Cry
- The Outfield
I hardly recall this getting any airplay at all. Certainly not on MTV. Maybe a Night Time MV show like NITE TRAX? Anyway the song is just ok. Not bad but those verses cause it to takes too long to leave the starting gate. This is why I feel it was left behind on the charts. Out of Mind, Out of Sight - ModelsRan into this one a couple of times already. i like the song. For me its a great impression of an INXS song. Even the vocals are too close to Michael's to say this song brings anything new to the game, but i love brass in great uptempo rock so I'll take it and run. Cross the Border - IcehouseSounds good for the instrument sounds of the band, but the song really doesn't have a strong hook to measure up to the greatness of their actual chart hits. I think I remember hearing this one time in a French clothing mall Look at That, Look at That
- The Fabulous ThunderbirdsEnding out this set with some fun 80's cheese. I don't really flip for this band, but this has a sort of Rock a Billy groove to it. I like the harmonicas. Why couldn't this have been their big hit to rank?

{MINI WALL, BECAUSE I'M ACTUALLY KIND OF HERE FOR THIS}#70: Offfffffffffffffff course "Hip to Be Square" topped this. We can't have nice things. #69: I feel like my points from yesterday still stand. #68: We're getting rid of perfectly good songs, and not, you know. Van Hagar. #67: I expected this to last a LOT longer. I can't say that I'm unhappy it didn't. #66: So, uh, yeah, Tom, you were wrong on both counts. ![:giggle:](//storage.proboards.com/1258812/images/KYziZwTotWGtjvzyvGqr.gif) #65: Sure. #64: I feel fairly confident in saying that Huey will have a new personal best in 1985. If nothing else, they will be doing better than this...both in performance and in quality. #63: One off: A tale as old as time. (Holy crap, I ranked this higher than Doc, what) #62: See #68. The bottom ten does not surprise me in the slightest, though.
