“Not Getting Over You" is the song that I thought might end up in last place, so it being in the bottom 2 isn’t at all surprising. This song is just...boring? I want to like it, but it just kind of plods along and doesn’t hold my attention. Hey, I’m not the one with a top 3 ranking on a song that went out in the bottom 2

I might just put it into the album tracks rd anyway, tbh. We could stand to exchange a couple of tracks from Classic for some of her better early stuff, couldn't we? You really want to be disappointed again for a second time?! It'll probably do better than many of the Classics songs anyway ;) But no, I won't use up any of my executive decision privileges until I know if you guys do anything stupid to the best songs on Pain To Kill! 😂

You sit in silence in the shadows. You don’t complain or criticize. And while the world may see me as a fool They’re not looking through your eyes. No questions asked, you’re there when I need you. With a love that inspires me to be Everything you deserve.

We kick off the top 10 with our first single loss!!! "Unsung Hero" was a flop on the charts (it only made it to #47 on the U.S. charts, although it did make it to #15 on the Canadian charts!). And clearly it has never shaken that Flop mentality among us Pulsers. Here's what I said about it in the singles Rankdown, because I used to be so much more eloquent than I am now. "Unsung Hero" is SO good!!!!!! But I too always forget that it was a single... It just doesn't really sound like a single. The song is so unlike her stylistically. It feels like the type of uptempo love jam you would have gotten from some gospel singer back in the '80s (I mean, it even features a very predominant background choir!), and yet here it is showing up in the late '90s being sung by Country music's most predominantly honky-tonk female vocalist. But she absolutely kills it! She owns this song! It is so totally her, despite not sounding like any of her other stuff. So it doesn't really sound like a single, but it has always been a song I deeply love. Kanenrá:ke I think you should do another reveal so I can stop rambling about this song.

My bottom 2 ranking for “Unsung Hero” is admittedly a bit harsh I think, but this was also a horrible choice for a single. The reason this ends up down near the bottom for me is that it just has never been a song I feel compelled to revisit, but the one saving grace is that Terri really shines on the chorus.
My condolences again to our host for losing his second top 5 in a row :'(

That lonely feelin’s had its way Ever since the day I heard you say goodbye. The hurtin’ thinks it’s found a home, But I’m gonna let it know it ain’t welcome here tonight. Tomorrow that old cloud may come around And there won’t be anything that I can do. But tonight I’m gettin’ even with the blues.

This is another amazing song that, similar to "Not Getting Over You", shows off Terri's powerful belting vocals in a way that we're not always accustomed to hearing from her!
This is yet another case of her albums being way too strong and SOMETHING has to finish low, which is why it was in the bottom 2 on my list :( But honestly, I would have easily put 7-8 album tracks from this album into the album tracks rd if I could, including this one. They're all so great!
However the album tracks with the most hit potential seemed to do better this time around, so I really can't argue with any of the ones that are still in. Most of the ones that have left are just great album cuts, while the ones that are still in could have legit been huge hits.

I seriously can’t believe that “Getting Even With The Blues" is missing the album tracks rankdown. Some of y’all really criminally underappreciate this song as it’s always been a favorite of mine ever since I first listened to the album way back when.

I should also point out that the writing team that brought us "Getting Even With The Blues" is also the same writing team that brought us smash hit "You're Easy On The Eyes"! (I just learned that when copy/pasting the songwriters from Wikipedia! ;) )

Sort of a "Heart Hush" situation, if you will ;) We'll just have to see what the final list looks like!

The title track bows out at #8, as our first song to remain below 100 points! This song deserved to do WAY better here, but at least it made the album tracks rd.... It's got one of the most perfect singsongy choruses of the entire album, as well as my favorite fiddle solo of her entire career. I have always wished that this one had found its way to radio, although frankly the same thing could be said for 5-6 songs on every single one of Terri's albums, lol.

"Till I Get There" is a catchy song, although tbh as time has gone by it has reminded me more and more of a rough draft version of "Almost Gone", which is a similar-yet-much-better song that would come later on the Pain To Kill album!
I'll go ahead and stop there for the night, now that we're at the halfway point ;)

This is all over the place. I had no idea this rankdown would be like this. I thought for sure most people would be aligned on a lot of this. Boy, was I wrong.

Boy, was I wrong. I agree with both of you! I was not expecting the total lack of consistency that these results would have. I guess on the one hand this is probably going to happen with her albums a lot because they are all usually quite consistent from front to back, but it still leads to a lot of pain for people, lol.

Barely missing out on the top 5 by way of a tie-breaker is "That's Me Not Loving You"! This is just a straightforward '90s country jam. I particularly enjoy the imagery of all the little things that annoy the man who left her actually being constant reminders of the good thing that he gave up. Like "if your room feels drafty at night and you can't quite escape the cold, that's me not loving you anymore BITCH!!!! You got what you deserved!!!" 😂 And of course the melody and arrangement are perfect for Terri's attitude and style. What could beat .indulgecountry's #2 to sneak ahead of this, you might ask? Well, our first #1 loss of course ;)

What could beat .indulgecountry 's #2 to sneak ahead of this, you might ask? Well, our first #1 loss of course His own #1 loss, unfortunately.....
But this ole heart is flesh and blood. Gets in trouble when it cares too much. Keeps a-hanging on when it oughtta give up on somethin’ that’s passed. I wish it had wheels and I wish it had wings 'Cause I could sure use just one of those things. Then this danged ole fallin’ outta love wouldn’t hurt so bad. But this ole heart ain’t made like that.
