"This Ole Heart" is one of the most "classic" country songs of Terri's career, stylistically and thematically. In this song the narrator laments the fact that her heart is flesh and blood, and wishes it could be more like an inanimate object that could just be given a quick tune up, fresh coat of paint, etc. and be good as new when it gets hurt.
For some reason it is also a really polarizing song, as evidenced by the fact that it managed to finish this rankdown as our most polarizing song! It was also settled in nicely in the bottom 5 for quite a bit more time than it was in the top 5, so I'm glad it was able to get its footing throughout the submission process. This is such a classic Terri song!

After all was said and done There was nothin’ left to do. The hardest mile I ever walked Was the one I walked away from you. So maybe I’m a little ragged around the edges. And I’ve been keepin’ a little more to myself these days, but
I’m alright. Shot down, but I’m still standin’. I’m alright. A little banged up from the fall. But I’m alright. Still shaky from the landin’. I’m alright after all.

In what should come as no surprise to anyone based on what is left, album opener "I'm Alright" bows out next, leaving the top 3 to the album's three big hits. This song is noteworthy because the background vocals in the chorus start singing "I'm Alright" directly on the beat, while Terri mimics them on the off-beat, creating a really funky groove that stays in your head, love it or hate it. Clearly we think this song had a lot of hit potential, based on the fact that we ranked it the best of the album tracks here. It probably never stood a chance of being released because of Jo Dee's behemoth hit of the same name this same year, but it will be interesting to see how well this does in the album tracks rd! This is one album where I had no idea what would be the highest album track. I feel like they could have gone in any order and I would not have been surprised. They could go in a completely different order in the album tracks rd and I won't be surprised! Ugh, I need to stop getting myself so excited for her album tracks rd. We've got a loooong way to go before we get to that point, lol. But hers is going to be one of the strongest album tracks rds we will ever do, tbh...

Should’ve known it was you knockin’ on my door At a half past a heartache at quarter to four. Were ya startin’ to worry I was finally gettin’ over you? I almost forgot you looked so fine. If you told me some lies, it’d be like old times. Just gettin’ to see you is almost worth the things you do.

Despite getting five #1 votes (the most of any song on the album, barely) this song wasn't able to unseat the other two hits. It snuck up to #1 for one moment, and to #2 for two moments, but otherwise it was pretty much holding steady at #3. This was Terri's first #1 hit in the U.S., and her 4th in Canada! "Now That I Found You" was a #2 right before it in both countries, and then "Everytime I Cry" hit #2 right after this in Canada, so clearly she was on FIRE with this album. Personally I am glad to see this fall just short to the other hits on this album. It's catchy, but I can only listen to it in small doses, whereas both of the remaining songs are so iconic I could literally listen to them on repeat for 24 hours straight and never get tired of them This was the highest song in the singles rd, as it made the top 5 All three of these are among her most iconic hits though, so I'm not surprised to see them finish relatively close to each other here, and to even change their order around a bit from the original singles rd.

Everytime I Cry vs. Now That I Found You!!!! Which one's going to take it all?? Both were substantial #1 contenders, swapping places several times!

You took away the walls around me, Made me feel safe to share my truth.
I see the heavens open. A heart that once was broken is holdin’ nothin’ back Now that I found you.
2. "Now That I Found You"
Track 2 Runtime: 3:37
Every time I think you might have changed. Put aside the anger and the blame, Make myself believe that there’s a way to work it out. Every time you say, “Let’s try again.” Beggin’ me to let you back in. Every time, I do. Every time, you lie. Every time I cry.

In the battle for #1, "Now That I Found You" and "Everytime I Cry" fought mercilessly with each other! EIC was the main contender towards the beginning, while NTIFY was more consistent towards the end, but thanks to a couple of NTIFY's lowest ranks coming right at the end EIC was able to make a comeback! I feel like "Now That I Found You" has become one of Terri's more enduring recurrent hits (still behind stuff like "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" and "Better Things To Do", of course, but it is still prominent enough that it's one of her more well-known hits from this album). This slick romantic ballad is a little more AC friendly than anything Terri had ever released before this, and is certainly less in-your-face honky-tonk than her usual style, but that still doesn't mean she abandoned her roots or anything. It occupies a unique niche within her catalog, and even serves as a nice sonic counterpoint to some of her other huge hits. That being said, "Everytime I Cry" is one of the catchiest and fun to sing-along with songs of her entire career, so I am so elated to see it sneak out a win at the end! It was our primary #1 contender for longer than anything else, and got four #1 ranks, right behind "You're Easy On The Eyes'" five #1s, so clearly it is a well-deserved victory. This one only peaked at #12 in the U.S., but I feel like its legacy is stronger than that peak would suggest. It definitely has a place among Terri's biggest hits, although with maybe a bit less recurrent play than YEOTE or NTIFY. The only thing about this song that is unfortunate is the fact that they tried to make "Everytime" a word for absolutely NO REASON!!!!! It's like a permanent typo that we're just forced to live with!!! > Otherwise, it's a perfect song, lmao!

at you talking to a wall during the finale of this album and jumping straight into the next album without even taking a breath "You're Easy on the Eyes" missing out on the Top 2 is unfortunate, but if anything was gonna beat it, I'm glad it was "Everytime I Cry." That song is also just great and I can't wait to see it in the next BotB!!!

My love for “Getting Even with the Blues” aside, I’ve always thought that “I’m Alright” stood out amongst the rest of the album tracks and to me at least would’ve made for a better single choice than “Unsung Hero” (although now that I’m thinking about it, both Terri and Jo Dee’s albums came out at around about the same time so Terri’s label might’ve thought that it wouldn’t be a good idea considering what a massive hit “I’m Alright” was for Jo Dee…reminds me of the same situation Alan’s label was in back in 1990 when they wanted to release “Home” only to have Joe Diffie debut with a song of the same name). Anyways…I really should’ve put this in my top 5 because it’s a favorite of mine for sure. Exited to see how this one performs in her album tracks rankdown!
I had pegged “You’re Easy on the Easy” as a top 2 contender here if only because it made the top 5 in Terri’s singles rankdown, but I’m pleasantly surprised to see it bow out before that. There’s no denying that this was a massive hit for her at the time and has continued to receive plenty of recurrent airplay over the years, but in turn I think that ended up hindering its performance here if only because the burn rate is higher for this than the other two hits.
Speaking of, what a perfect top 2! I initially went into this thinking I’d be putting “Now That I’ve Found You” at the top of my list, but in reconnecting with Terri’s discography since her artist rankdown I’ve come to appreciate “Everytime I Cry” more and more. I think my feelings for NTIFY are wrapped up more in nostalgia as I absolutely adored the song back then, but as time has passed those feelings haven’t quite aged along with the song. Nonetheless, I would’ve been happy with either outcome!

With Tracy Lawrence being extended, that means that this one is now my next rankdown that will be closing! In other words, if you want to do this one, it's time to make it happen, because I will not be extending it!!! I have a very small window to get this one out of the way before shifting my attention to the New Country Releases rankdown at the end of the month. May is FLYING by! Lol
So we officially have one more week to get this one done I'm excited to see what the rest of you think of this album!!

Roots and Wings Rankdown: Results Time!
Final Participant List: (12)1. Kanenrá:ke2. tim3. someguy4. castleoblivion265. codyj1006. bboat117. taylor is terrified8. 🌺CountryLineDancer9. Cody Wants Out...10. ClevelandRox11. .indulgecountry12. LBTrocksWe made it to 12, which is less than the other albums, but only by like 1-2 people! Thank you all for participating :) I'm really hopeful that you will all stick around for the rest of the series, because we still have barely scratched the surface of her incredible career! There are still a few incredible albums left to do, especially from her early career
Questions to get us started:
1) Which songs will be in the top 2?
2) What will be last place?
3) Which songs will be in the top 5?
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing?
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Northern Girl, We're Here For A Good Time, The One, Wrecking Ball)
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place?
7) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do well?
8) Any other thoughts/predictions?

1) Which songs will be in the top 2? "Northern Girl" and "The One"
2) What will be last place? "Flowers in Snow"
3) Which songs will be in the top 5? The two above + "Wrecking Ball," "Breakin' Up Thing," and "Lonesome's Last Call" is my guess
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "We're Here for a Good Time" | Least: "The One"
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Northern Girl, We're Here For A Good Time, The One, Wrecking Ball) "Northern Girl" or "The One" for the win
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place? "Good Time" around #6 or 7 maybe.
7) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do well? "Breakin' Up Thing" plz
8) Any other thoughts/predictions? "Smile" is one of her worst songs ever so I'm hoping it's in the bottom 3. Love and appreciate the sentiment for Terri, but the melody is horrendous.

1) Which songs will be in the top 2? "Northern Girl" at the top followed by "The One"
2) What will be last place? "Flowers in Snow"
3) Which songs will be in the top 5? "Northern Girl", "The One", "We're Here For a Good Time", "Wrecking Ball", and "Breakin' Up Thing"
4) What song will be most polarizing? "We're Here For A Good Time" Least polarizing? "Northern Girl"
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? "Northern Girl" at #1
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place? "Wrecking Ball" was the first single to exit in Terri's singles rankdown, but I just don't see that repeating itself again here. So, I'll guess "We're Here For A Good Time" and at #6
7) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do well? Preferably "Smile" but I'm already aware of the majority's sentiments regarding it, so therefore I'll say "Lonesome's Last Call"
8) Any other thoughts/predictions? Other than "We're Here For A Good Time", I thought this was a pretty solid album overall.
