All major radio companies have dropped his music. Pretty impressed. There’s zero place for this and Morgan needs to have consequences for his actions.

It looks like he's actually getting a bit of a bump on digital outlets, but my guess is with multiple major radio broadcasting companies blacklisting him, that's not going to last long.. While I'm sure some of that is attributed to diehard supporters (and racists) streaming him in support, it is also likely people seeing his name and thinking "Who even is Morgan Wallen?", looking up his music, listening to a song and that's all. Dude is not meant for fame. And needs anti-racist therapy.

I predict this will be down to around 0 airplay on the rolling chart a week from now. This dude has totally destroyed his career. What a f***ing idiot. I have NO respect for him.
This was a great week for Entercom to pick "Wasted On You" as their song of the week..."wasting airplay on Morgan" is more like it.
Also, do people like Morgan not learn from everything that happened with NASCAR's Kyle Larson last year?

And he clearly needs to look inside to his issues -- including using words like this -- to fix whatever is broken within him. He clearly cannot handle any level of fame nor should he drink any alcohol anymore.

This dude was one of the faces of the genre and in one fell swoop completely destroyed everything. Like I am still pissed off that he said the thing and this is karma biting him in the ass, but wow at how much his career has just imploded within the past 24 hours.

Great response by Bobby Bones. He's literally on top of the world and then does something so stupid like this. I agree that alcohol brings out the truth in people, and from what I'm hearing, he's been problematic in the past. I'm disgusted and I hope that he's blacklisted for good. Yes, but Wallen already stepped back once to reflect and learn. And here we are. The guy is a slug.

I agree with most of what Bobby Bones said. I'm all about giving people the opportunity to redeem themselves, but that means really putting in the work. Learning, growing, teaching others, giving back to the community, etc. He's screwed up multiple times recently, issued an apology, and went back to being an asshole again. That's not reflecting and learning. Kyle Larson last year using the same word Morgan used, and then apologizing and announcing he attended a racial sensitivity course a week later is not enough to be "redeemed" in my opinion. It comes off as entirely self-serving and thinking you can just check a box and move on.

Wonder how the countdown shows will handle this. This weekends shows may be finished already. I wonder if “7 Summers” still gets played or not. Even if the song doesn’t get another spin, “7 Summers” may still be in top 30 or 40 on next weeks chart as well.

Not to go down a NASCAR rabbit hole, but Larson didn't have that type of reputation prior to his screw up (and as an Asian American, he had dealt with slurs directed at him in the past). People are much more willing to give you a second chance if that's the case. Morgan certainly hasn't given anyone a reason to give him the benefit of a doubt, and as a result he would have to show genuine growth before anyone takes a comeback seriously. My fear is that he will do the opposite, lean into his martyrdom, try to make this political, and keep his fanbase supporting him through independent releases. I genuinely hope he chooses growth though.

I honestly had no idea who he was prior to a couple weeks ago randomly finding him smashing on top of the Billboard 200. I think that piqued lots of non avid country music listener's interest. But now he's getting even more attention for all the WRONG reasons. I said it in another thread. I haven't seen someone's career take such a drastic turn like this since Chris Brown. How do you go from breaking records and opening more doors for country music to being the most hated person on the planet in 24 hrs? Mess.

I’m very curious how this will play out. The Dixie Chicks did not have streaming platforms or social media back when they were banned from country radio. Morgan could still remain a huge star without Country Radio kinda like how Kacey has.

I think that with the longevity his album has had, and the decent streaming numbers for country music standards that he's shown, that component will fall slightly, but not drastically.
I'd argue most people may be disgusted by what a celebrity does, but will still listen to their music / watch their shows, etc. So I expect the general public, particularly country-music-listening-public to not abandon him as quick as radio and his label. And to be quite honest, I don't think Big Loud/Republic will keep his contract suspended indefinitely. He's clearly making them money.
With that said, I was curious if any of you all know anything about this. Obviously many of us through work, or school, have to now undergo some for of discrimination/harassment training. Is this at all ever part of an artist's PR training?

(he is returning to NASCAR this year) I’m sure he will at some point, but I don’t see how he can make a comeback as a mainstream A lister country star.

Someone who is literally on top of the country music scene and he pulls stupid garbage like this. I just lost all respect for him. There’s plenty of other talents out there to take his spot. 7 Summers will probably be his last hit for a long time.

To me, he always seemed like someone who was in it for the fame, not the music. He’s total disregard for the virus with the bar and the young girls and no mask and kissing was actually enough for me. This is just downright disgusting. He’s a garbage person. Human trash.

I said it in another thread. I haven't seen someone's career take such a drastic turn like this since Chris Brown. And Chris Brown is currently getting smash hits years after we thought he did something he'd never recover from. I wouldn't be surprised if the same eventually happens with Morgan Wallen. All of this is very fresh and drastic and pretty unprecedented for a country star to experience outside of what occurred with the Dixie Chicks during their prime, so it remains to be seen how things unfold long-term here, but he's definitely on the outs for now. If he gets help, genuine help, as others and myself have proposed, then this may all be temporary. I've been very sad and upset all day thinking about this as a big fan of his music. I was LOVING his new album. Damnit. </3

I'm not surprised. I didn't even know who he was until he was in the news for violating SNL's COVID-19 provisions, and then when they were nice enough to invite him on later, they did a skit with him making fun of it all and he just came across like an asshole all through the skit.

To add to this, "7 Summers" had 701 spins yesterday on Mediabase. It had just 168 spins today as of the afternoon update. This will most definitely be the biggest free-fall in airplay from a single we have ever seen. It was only at #15 on MB this past week, so it won't see as many spins lost as it could have, but it'll still be dramatic. jhomes87 is right that this song will have virtually no spins by the seven-day update.

That is accurate, as it charted for so long as an album track before it was a single. It would’ve been number 25 the week after it was number three had it not ran up all those weeks of unsolicited airplay.

I saw confusion earlier today in several places across the web surrounding Big Loud’s use of “suspending indefinitely” but he’s now been removed from the artist roster on both Big Loud and Republic’s websites which is typically a clear indicator of an artist being dropped/off the label.
I’m honestly surprised the backlash reached a fever pitch so quickly and the consequences have been this severe but I applaud it if nothing more than for it to be a very public example there is no gray area in situations like this. Cancel culture is such a slippery slope but hopefully he commits to making real change and has a support system to hold him accountable.
(Now if he keeps showing us that this is who he is, then boy bye! 👋🏽)
