streets saying Billboard is working on weighing down discounted sales They need to. Discount on the first week. That's a little to gimmicky for my liking. Also, instrumentals, remixes, acoustic versions in the same week. Just say, stans buy 4 versions of each so they count towards billboards charts. There should be a rule on when you are allowed to use these tactics.

'Dynamite' Is Blowing Up: BTS Makes Its Best Career Debut on Pop Songs Radio Airplay Chart CHART BEAT 9:52 AM
8/24/2020 by Gary Trust
The song starts at No. 30 after its first three days of release. BTS makes its grandest entrance yet on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as "Dynamite" debuts at No. 30 on the list dated Aug. 29.
The song scores BTS its highest debut rank on Pop Songs and boasts the most plays in a first week on the chart for a track by the group.
Released at midnight ET on Friday, Aug. 21 (on BigHit Entertainment/Columbia Records), "Dynamite" starts on Pop Songs with 2,301 plays in its first three days. It surpasses the South Korean septet's "Boy With Luv," featuring Halsey, which began at No. 35 with 1,230 plays in its first chart frame in April 2019.
The Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music/MRC Data, among its reporting panel of over 160 mainstream top 40 stations.
Here's a recap of BTS' history on Billboard's Pop Songs chart, dating to the act's first appearance in December 2017.
Debut Plays Total / Debut Pos. / Song / Peak Pos. / Peak Year 1,116 / No. 37 / "MIC Drop" (feat. Desiigner) / No. 25 / 2018 912 / No. 38 / "Fake Love" / No. 34 / 2018 998 / No. 39 / "Waste It on Me" (Steve Aoki feat. BTS) / No. 38 / 2018 1,230 / No. 35 / "Boy With Luv" (feat. Halsey) / No. 22 / 2019 1,130 / No. 39 / "Make It Right" (feat. Lauv) / No. 24 / 2019 2,301 / No. 30 / "Dynamite" / No. 30 (to date) / 2020
(All titles above debuted on Pop Songs after logging plays in weeks prior to their chart entrances except for "Boy With Luv" and "Dynamite," each of which debuted on the chart thanks to plays in their first three days of availability.)
All charts dated Aug. 29 will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 25).
"Dynamite" is expected to debut on the all-genre airplay-, sales-and streaming-based Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Sept. 5, following its first full tracking week for all metrics. Highlights of the Sept. 5-dated Hot 100 are due to be announced Monday, Sept. 1. BTS has hit a No. 4 high on the Hot 100, set upon the debut of "On" in March.

Toosie Slide and Bluebird are leaving this week. Stuck with U, Be a Light (if the radio gains aren't enough), and The Box are also vulnerable. Finally, Circles hits 52 weeks this week, meaning the next album bomb means it's gone.

Finally, Circles hits 52 weeks this week, meaning the next album bomb means it's gone. Not necessarily at all. This most recent week, Circles was #16 even though there were 3 debuts above it (LNCL, 7 summers, Midnight sky). Lets assume that during the week before the next album bomb, Circles is naturally at #20 (even I though I honestly think it will be higher), it would still need 6 songs to debut above it in the top 20 from said album bomb in order for Circles to go recurrent. To give some context, Folklore couldn't do that, neither could Shoot For the Stars Aim for Moon, After Hours, or even f**king Eternal Atake. The only album that debuted that many songs in the top 20 was Legends Never Die. So basically, in order for Circles to go recurrent in the next few weeks, we would need an album bomb at least as big as Juice Wrld's. And idk who, other than Drake, is gonna do that anytime soon. Circles is safe for the next several weeks.

Sunflower was #21 when Jesus is King impacted the charts and only 3 songs debuted above yet it dropped out, and the Jesus is King album bomb was nowhere near as impactful as the Pop Smoke or Taylor or Juice album bombs this year.

So is it true that billboard changed the rules? now digital sales weight much less (Levitating remix and the lakes would’ve charted with previous formula), meaning that BTS will have a serious problem if it's true...Expecting a close race now.

Here is an actual story about a "fake #1" djrobblog.com/archives/6222Short version - 'Baker Street' declared #1 sent to AT40 - recorded show as #1 replacing 'Shadow Dancing' Radio play was determined by phoned-in playlists from radio stations so lots of room for "error" then-Billboard chart manager - had dinner with dinner with Andy Gibb's management who when informed of the the news threatened to back out of a performance at the Billboard Disco forum Thus a "chart error" was declared and the AT40 show was rerecorded No Baker Street #1, but instead was up to that point the longest running #2 in chart history -- passed by Foreigner a few years later and many times by others since Baker Street 6 weeks at #2 Shadow Dancing 7 weeks at #1 Don't know if this story is true but it is a fun read This is fascinating and sad. Especially when "Baker Street" is a beloved classic and "Shadow Dancing" has been lost to time. And it had already been #1, what was so wrong with letting a new song get it? I so hope someone publishes a Billboard exposé one day. Edit: Someone in the comments for that article makes an intriguing point, something I'd never noticed before: all 3 of the Bee Gees' #1's in 1979 interrupted the runs at the top of other songs that then returned to #1 (all of them iconic, I might add - "Le Freak", "I Will Survive" and "Hot Stuff"). The Bee Gees and their brother Andy were of course all signed to the same record company, so maybe some or all of those #1's weren't actually deserving... There's so much talk on this forum about songs 'deserving' #1 and then you learn Billboard may have been manipulating stuff from the beginning. God, isn't it enough how we can't trust cops or politicians, now we can't trust chart statisticians either?

No, those songs just didn't have enough in other categories to chart. Not only that, the songs must be consistent with the amount of sales you have throughout the week. Both songs dropped hard saleswise later in the week.

The drops for BTS would be concerning if they weren't basically confirmed to sell over 100k.
This is not their fault or particularly terrible this week but 100k people (more like 25k buying 4 copies) dictating what the #1 song is feels wrong to me, regardless of all the discussion about whether or not it's a "fake" #1. This year we've had some really bad abuses of the sales component like "stuck with u", "TROLLZ" and even "cardigan".

Circles gained on radio today while it's approaching one year in the Hot 100's Top 20 What a legendary chart run. Nearly a year in the charts without ever leaving the top 20.

Imagine if "Move Ya Hips" had actually sold 100k on that first week. It would have dropped 1-99. Charts are naturally trending towards more frontloaded runs because that's how we consume music now.

i was talking specifically about BTS this week, but I partially agree regarding music consumption. Yeah there are more front loaded hits in 2020 but there are hits with insane longevity like Circles and Blinding Lights which was unseen in the recent years

God, isn't it enough how we can't trust cops or politicians, now we can't trust chart statisticians either? Look up Bill Wardlow...he was the Hot 100 chart manager at the time and the stories of his chart manipulation are legendary. He wanted to be a bigger player in the music industry and cozied up to Robert Stigwood, founder of RSO Records (RSO stood for 'Robert Stigwood Organization') and the Bee Gees were his main artists. That's why the Bee Gees or their brother Andy Gibb were involved in most of these examples. It's also why Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's "The Closer I Get To You" was revealed as reaching #1 in the spring of '78 before another 'correction' announced it was actually #2 behind Yvonne Elliman's 'Saturday Night Fever' hit "If I Can't Have You". I'll give you one guess what label "If I Can't Have You" was on. Stigwood notoriously followed chart records and wanted to assure 'Saturday Night Fever' of a 4th #1. That's also why the Bee Gees' classic "More Than A Woman" was never officially released as a single despite big airplay. Stigwood said if it wasn't going to #1 he didn't want it to chart at all. The story is that Wardlow was finally pushed out in the early 80s when all of his shady practices came to light.

It will come down to how much they owe whatever high peak they get to sales, because they're likely gonna drop +90% percent next week. And they will also have to deal with a slowdown on radio due to the first week being inflated by a radio deal. It could go either way, but it's probably not a big deal for them. With the multiple versions and videos it's clear that the focus here is a high debut.

Ugh, looks like SnitchNine won't hold the record for biggest drop from number-one or the shortest run for number one single im very regretful to announce you that it just won't happen, your boi 6ix9ine has set the bar way too high for anyone to beat that record I wouldn't be too sure about that...remember, BTS's last single "On" nosedived 4-68. "Dynamite" looks to have a better hold but a fall out of the top 40 isn't unreasonable.

It's #2 on global Spotify and #4 in the US. It is NOT going to drop out of top 40, c'mon now. Probably not even out of top 20.

Yeah but if we wanted that we would've been satisfied since the beginning of their career because songs like that basically are their career this just shows how unfamiliar you are with their music. I've listened to ttwo of their projects. They're surprisingly good, but it is still bland, generic pop music (partly) in english.

Imagine if "Move Ya Hips" had actually sold 100k on that first week. It would have dropped 1-99. Charts are naturally trending towards more frontloaded runs because that's how we consume music now. Actually, if MYH sold 100k on its first week, it still would have fallen short of WS for #1. It needed to do at least 130k to reach #1. But a fall from 2 or 3 to 99 would have been epic.

i was talking specifically about BTS this week, but I partially agree regarding music consumption. Yeah there are more front loaded hits in 2020 but there are hits with insane longevity like Circles and Blinding Lights which was unseen in the recent years so basically music consumption is trending toward the extremes... interesting (even though I think the front loaded hits aren’t really demonstrations of general music consumption as much as they’re just a few thousand people exploiting billboard rules)
