i was talking specifically about BTS this week, but I partially agree regarding music consumption. Yeah there are more front loaded hits in 2020 but there are hits with insane longevity like Circles and Blinding Lights which was unseen in the recent years so basically music consumption is trending toward the extremes... interesting (even though I think the front loaded hits aren’t really demonstrations of general music consumption as much as they’re just a few thousand people exploiting billboard rules) Just like politics

Yeah but if we wanted that we would've been satisfied since the beginning of their career because songs like that basically are their career this just shows how unfamiliar you are with their music. Exactly. Dynamite/ Boy With Luv are super poppy songs that only represent a small portion of their discography. They have years of participating in writing/ producing/ composing their own music and it reflects in the majority of their songs (Outro: Tear, NO, No More Dream, Hip Hope Lover etc. etc). If they’re going number one with this song is because they were smart and knew they had to cater to US audiences. Their hip hop influenced music was not going to cut it for hiphopheads here so they went with the generic pop song route and it’s working for them.

So I might as well tell you about a dream I recently had:
Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles, Post Malone, The Weeknd and Jungkook unite for a cover of I Want it That Way with all the proceeds going to some charity related to the coronavirus and the song's first-week points absolutely nuke Hello's numbers and it reaches #1 on the year-end list in one week and then in an effort to best them 6ix9ine, DripReport and Justin Bieber release a cover of Dragostea Din Tei but it absolutely flops and Tekashi rats Justin out and says that he was the one to come up with the idea

I've listened to ttwo of their projects. They're surprisingly good, but it is still bland, generic pop music (partly) in english. So they're good but they make generic pop music? Make up your mind my friend. Yeah. That can be said about a lot of artists. For example Say So is a generic pop song, but it is also a pretty great song. Those things aren't exclusive in any way.

im very regretful to announce you that it just won't happen, your boi 6ix9ine has set the bar way too high for anyone to beat that record It will eventually happen... Imagine if "Move Ya Hips" had actually sold 100k on that first week. It would have dropped 1-99. Charts are naturally trending towards more frontloaded runs because that's how we consume music now. The Hot 100 is starting to resemble the Billboard 200 album chart of the 1990's and 2000's with all the front loaded #1 debuts and then big drops in their second week.

BTS must be really desperate. I didn't know they had released yesterday a 'B-side' video for Dynamite.

There are 5 versions of Cardigan on iTunes with 3 on Taylor’s store. WAP has 2 versions...clean and explicit. Versions happen. Even the discount doesn’t matter because fans would’ve bought it anyway. They’re buying the dang music video too and it’s what, $1.99?
I think maybe the label knew that Dynamite couldn’t compete with WAP or maybe even Drake without all 4 versions? At any rate, we shall see if this works out for them.
WAP is massive and nothing is guaranteed without knowing their d2c numbers.

The new Big Sean song with Nipsey is doing well on AM. I wonder if that next album will do any big numbers

And yes I know a lot of artists do multiple versions and fans buy 4 copies of each on the site . It’s still tedious though , no ? 😂 or maybe it’s just me . It’s too early and caffeine hasn’t kicked in yet

According to kworb, Dynamite's YouTube US views were just over a third of WAP's on Sunday and Monday.

Can anybody explain to me by Mood by 24kgoldn and Iann Dorr is not being allowed to chart on R&B/Hip-Hop songs? It's definitely at least adjacent to that genre, and both of those artists have charted there before. I would definitely argue it's more of a Rap song than recent smashes on that chart like "Falling", "Hot Girl Bummer" and "Roxanne" (which was a #1 on that chart I might add). Truly the only "genre" charts that make any only sort of sense are Pop & Rhythmics songs chart bc they are based only on radio play to those specific audiences so Billboard doesn't have to "define" the genre of every song to determine it's eligibility.
