BTS still has about 60k orders on their D2C site ranging anywhere from 1-8 units each. They just added 2 more versions on top that and fans are funding each other left & right. I wouldn’t count them out just yet. While the order numbers may be impressive, we don’t know how many of the purchases are from the US and how many of the buyers adhered to the bulk buying rules. The site limited sales of each item to 4 units. As for global sales, this is true but it also looks like there was massive communication that this was for USA sales only. I can’t wait to see what these numbers are and if they report early or wait until the last minute to report

As long as we're getting fake #1's, Billboard will remain a complete joke. Cope

That BTS song is not the most popular song in America right now, not even close. If it goes #1, it will be because Billboard formula is flawed and because the rules are still not strict enough and easy to manipulate.

I’m so confused about what makes a song a valid #1. They took away the bundling where artists could sell things that wouldn’t ship anytime soon but still count song sales. Great, considering that “valid” #1s have all used this strategy.
An artist does in fact have strong streams so far as well as sales and yet their chart placement is still not legit? From what I can tell, even Dynamite’s vinyls and cassettes are shipping now for first week impact.
What makes one song more legitimate than the other?

^It wouldn't be the first questionable one this year, for sure!

From what I can tell, even Dynamite’s vinyls and cassettes are shipping now for first week impact. What makes one song more legitimate than the other? Every song that goes #1 is a valid number one song. It is based on Billboard's formula and in that certain week, the song had the most points.
Now a lot of people (myself included) think that buying 4 copies of the same song is pointless, only 1 should count max. A large amount of people (smaller than the previous group) think that sales are weighted too much. 1 sale = 250 paid streams = 375 free streams = 500 programed streams/UGC = 1,200 radio audience
If Dynamite goes #1 it will be just as valid as The Box, Say So, TROLLZ, ROCKSTAR... Based on the rules that applied to them in the weeks they went #1.
What people are saying is: If Billboard had better rules TROLLZ would never hit #1 (not even top 5), but the horse is already beaten to the death so there is no point...

No, this is my way of saying that Billboard needs to go back to the drawing board and work some more on straightening out the rules so that their charts could reflect the actual reality of the music consumption.

Seems like a bulk of their streams got discounted. Jeez, I wonder why. Asap Ferg didn't report the streams to prevent them from getting a #1 I think. Or was that another song? So many attempts to artificially inflate peaks this year.

^For MYH , I believe it was sales not streaming that went unreported.

Well 6-week sales #1 Gangnam Style should've been #1, so think of it as justice for k-pop, if this happens.

No, they decided the 6-week sales #1's huge Youtube views weren't a good motivation to change their chart rules. But mediocre 0-week sales #1 Harlem Shake was a good motivator because white male mediocrity.

Fake #1 aren't a thing. A song with instant support from a large hardcore fan group, or a song with gradual support from casual listeners, are both just as valid.

If BTS manages to get the streams and the sales to be #1 would it still be a "fake #1"? It is getting the sales but digital sales alone are not going to put this at #1.
Or is it just "fake" because it is BTS?
Also can someone define what a "fake #1" actually is?

Barbz mass bought Move ya hips (60k+ order numbers), yet only a few thousand counted. We’ll have to wait and see.

The new Travis single seems like it'll be a non-factor. Over 16 hours after it's release and it's #76 on Apple Music US.
I wonder if the forthcoming Calvin Harris/the Weeknd single will do any damage.

The recurring sentiment is that people are annoyed hardcore fans can game the H100 so easily. Sometimes, it’s less annoying, like when Harry Styles’ already huge “Watermelon Sugar” vaulted 7-1, or when Doja Cat’s “Say So” reached the summit courtesy of a remix. Sometimes, it’s infuriating, like basically every Nicki Minaj release of 2020. The H100 should be an accurate display of what’s popular and what isn’t, not which fanbase can buy the most copies.
We really didn’t have to have this convo again, though. It’s happened so many times, we all know this already. If BTS hit number one, they’ll be more deserving than several songs that made it there earlier this year anyway 🤷🏼♀️

22 number ones in 53 weeks (since Bad Guy dethroned OTR) vs. 10 number ones in the previous 53 weeks (August 2018-August 2019)... this is the easiest 12-month period to have a #1 hit since 1990/1991.

I didn't really care much for the Scotts and I don't really care much for the song he just dropped, but Travis' singles usually do well on Apple Music upon release so I'm surprised that this hasn't really taken off yet. He hasn't really dropped a ton of music this year so one would imagine that his fans would rush to engage with whatever he drops but that doesn't seem to be happening with the recently-released single. Maybe it being a soundtrack single has something to do with it.
