Why is radio boosting that "ily" song?
"Supalonely" got paid dust, "Be Kind" (one of the most radio-friendly songs in recent memory) never got its chance to shine, but this 2016 'tropical' house reject butchering one of my all-time favorite songs for cheap nostalgia bait is apparently what radio listeners want to hear?
Sorry, rant over, but I cannot see the appeal of this song. It's just so boring and devoid of anything remotely interesting.

We Paid, The Bones, and One Margarita are gone this week. Blueberry Faygo and Say So might hang on but they're also in danger We Paid is at the start of it's official radio push, so I'm expecting it to stay on like they did for Emotionally Scarred. The radio numbers aren't as strong as they were for Emotionally Scarred, I don't it'll be enough to keep it from dropping out.

The #1 position is becoming a real tug of war between "WAP" and "Dynamite." LOL It almost reminds me a lot of SIO and AATB, which traded the #1 spot for 12 weeks in fall 2014, before "Blank Space" ended that streak. So if history is an indicator, one of these artists (most likely BTS's new single) will end the streak.

That's because, like I said, it's just getting started with its official push. Billboard typically will keep songs that are still gaining at their radio formats. We Paid is flying up the Urban chart, where it's already top 20. We will see of Billboard is consistent with their rules.

I was surprised when it even made the top 40 on pop radio, but after that, it kind of clicked a bit. It’s pleasant and familiar background music, which is probably why it works on the radio. I’d never seek it out intentionally because there’s nothing to really grab onto and love about it, but it still blends in nicely. Also agreed about Be Kind. I know on Pulse it wasn’t a particular popular song and I’m not sure why. I thought it was great for radio with that hook - then it flopped.

Again, Be Kind deserved better and it's still Marshmello's best pop song to date.

Except... “SIO” and “AATB” were organic smash-hits that were fairly and genuinely competing against one and other in both sales and radio airplay. Neither single was being bolstered by 15 discounted remixes on iTunes nor countless website sales. 🤘🏿

The country charts in the 80s were pretty ridiculous too. For the ENTIRE DECADE, only four songs spent three weeks at number one (three in 1980, one in 1987). Literally no other song the entire decade spent more than two weeks on top, and none managed as many as four weeks. Damn! the mid 80s was literally 54 #1s in a year....it actually happened. wow

Machine Gun Kelly is doing numbers because he is no longer rapping. He switched to rock. He is an awful rapper. But he is a really good singer imo and all 3 singles from his upcoming album have been great.

I think both will compete for #1 Probably not. Their previous albums had first week numbers below this week's numbers projected by HITS for Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon. I mean this is based on the assumption that both have gained in popularity since their last albums, both have seen significant better performances on streaming for their pre-released singles compared to their last project's singles.

Not sure about this one, Joji has gained so much popularity since Ballads 1 and his album is obviously very anticipated, but I have a gut feeling Tickets To My Downfall is gonna be a bigger debut.... MGK has gained so much momentum over the past few months with his Lockdown Sessions and new music

Just noticed a very subtle but welcome change in the published Hot 100 chart at Billboard. It now includes an "award" column. If it it has a "+" inside a circle it means it gained in performance and if it is a star it got one or more weekly gainers awards.

The iconic bullet has existed for decades, I was wondering why they suddenly stopped using it on Hot 100 a few months ago. Nice to see it back.

Wow Renaboss, did you remember those numbers by heart? That was perfect! I am impressed. Also remember that overall chart runs were much shorter in the 60's as well. I did, and I went by Billboard's official count (deducting "The Twist" in '62), but to tell you the truth I personally count "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Wooly Bully", "California Dreamin'" and "Something" as #1 hits too. It's not logical for the #1 song of any year to not be considered a #1, I hate that Billboard retconned the original year-end #1's for '63 and '66 because those songs totally feel like #1 hits, and I never for the life of me understood why "Come Together/Something" was a thing and "Something" by itself was another thing. I would actually love an explanation about that, if anyone knows.

No one really has streamed before you go compared to someone you loved...radio really carried that song.. at least SYL actually had solid streams Speaking of which... SYL is still top 50 on US Spotify. It truly baffles how much a streaming monster that song is.

Ever hear the term "number one with a bullet?" that's where it comes from. And back in the 50's, 60's, 70's and unless I'm wrong. even into the 80's, bullets were designated by a star next to the song(s) that had one on that week's chart. In the 90's and more recently I believe they have been designated by just a plain dot.

I would actually love an explanation about that, if anyone knows. Here is a quick explanation as to why "Something" was a part of "Something/Come Together" but also just "Something" as well on the charts. When the Hot 100 debuted in August 1958, both the A and B sides of singles were capable of charting separately. If a B side of a single had enough points to chart on its own, it would chart on its own. This continued until the last week of November 1969 when Billboard discontinued its practice of charting A and B sides of singles separately. From then on, if a B side of a single had enough points, it would simple be added to the A side's points and they would chart as a double-sided hit. Under the old rule, both A side "Come Together" and B side "Something" entered the Hot 100 on their own. But separately neither one had enough points to get to the #1 spot. Then came the week of November 29th, 1969, both sides of the single had their points added to each other and together they had enough points to top the Hot 100 for 1 week as double-sided hit Come Together/Something." So it was basically just luck that the Beatles' single was in that position that they benefited when the rule change took place at the end of November 1969. "Something" is just as much an official #1 Hot 100 hit as "Come Together." As for your other questions about Billboard replacing certain number #1 year end singles with other year end singles, I don't really know why that was done except to say that maybe they replaced "Surfin' USA" with "Sugar Shack" because the latter song was also a #1 hit on the Hot 100 and the former was not. But that doesn't explain why "California Dreamin" was replaced with "Wooley Bully" except that maybe the former song only got to #4 on the Hot 100, while the latter song managed to get to #2, although neither one of them made it to the top.
