Pleasantly surprised that Carly is still in. That album was really a standout, IMO

Classic 80s freestyle from Montreal! This video got a lot of airplay back in the day on Muchmusic. Her single, Move Out is nice too. And I think Alphabet Street can go soon, Prince is a genius but that’s not his best.

Scarlett & Black and The Kane Gang are two my favorite one "minor hit" wonders of the late 80s.

Catching up!!!!
50. Yankee Rose (40): I don't remember this being played in radio stations back in Peru --we bopped to Crazy from the Heat, Just a Gigolo, and California Girls, though. The video did receive some rotation. It's a fun song, with actually better, harder instrumental than other of his solo stuff. Good enough to skip my bottom 10, but I'm not surprised it's at the bottom here. 49. Seventeeen (49): This is a first listen. I guess this just has the type of melody and beat I'm not a big fan of. At all. 48. Wild World (41): I remember this one. It made our charts back home, and my personal top 20. I think the reggae vibe works well with the melody. I like it much better than Mr. Big's cover. But still nothing that elevates the original. 47. Girls, Girls, Girls (28): I might've heard this one before and/or watched the video. This is the type of fun rock I dig. Nothing I'll personally seek to download, but I would bop to it if I hear it. 46. Moonlighting (44): Yeah, I remember this being the theme song to the primetime TV series "Luz de Luna". I liked the show, but the song would never enter my personal chart. I don't mind hearing it if I'm in the rare time I may be for AC stuff, but it's quite forgettable to me.
45. Rock the Night (21): Just like with #47, I have vague memories of this, but sounded pretty good now that I fully listened to it. I like the anthemic and more polished sound of this one (vs Motley's). 44. A Nightmare on My Street (37): LOL. This was fun but more on guilty pleasure territory. I heard this in the 90s. This type of rap stuff wasn't played much back home in the 80s. The quirkiness and that halloweenish piano sealed the deal for me to escape my bottom 10. 43. Ghost Town (2): Yup. I thought this was gonna flop here, but I still had some hopes that it could at least escape bottom 10. This was a BIG hit back home this year, making the top of the charts of two of our top 3 pop stations. It also reached the top of my personal chart for a couple of weeks and ended in my yearend top 10. I LOVE the melody and super emotional lyrics. Plus the simpler, less polished, but effective instrumental works very well, too. The fact that a couple of boring slow songs beat this is a travesty. In any case, I'm proud to be its highest ranker. It's one of the last great power rock ballads IMO. 42. We All Sleep Alone (22): Part of the fishnet, my-son-sees-my-butt-while-playing-guitar era. It's my 4th favorite after If I Could turn Back Time, I Found Someone, and Walking in Memphis. I love the part when she goes high, and the ooh's. 41. Time and Tide (48): Really? This bore of a song is higher than the last two? I've never been a fan of it. i think the best thing is the background vocals in the chorus. The chick's voice is forgettable, as is the instrumental. Next!
40. Fallen Angel (13): Another big hit back home that was very popular in both radio and TV. Their first of two personal chart-toppers, that I still hear once in awhile. Nothing revolutionary of course, just simple catchy glam rock, with a great hook, good guitars, and some cool harmonies.
39. Electric Youth (6): Pffff!!! Another top 10 loss :( This was and has remained her second biggest hit back home. It reached the top of the music and video charts, and was one of the biggest hits of the year. It was also her 3rd personal chart-topper. It's a fun little track that tries to be bigger than it is, and doesn't fully get there but the attempt is quite valid lol. I mean, the intro is a bliss, and then the bridge tries to go all synthpop, electronic, but it sounds a bit plastic, and sometimes her vocals in the chorus seem to be a microsecond behind the beat. But I still love it because she tried offering something different, interesting, unique for the time while not straying too far from the melodic, bubbly dance pop she had offered in her debut album. And her vocals are still stellar. The video is a joy regardless of her dancing abilities :) It also brings a lot of great memories...
38. What's Going On (42): Interestingly, this wasn't played back home as the follow-up to CoH. The next single we heard was Maybe He'll Know (with Billy Joel in backing vocals), which I would've ranked several spots higher than #42. WGO is an ok cover. She sounds good, and the music is interesting enough, but again, nothing super memorable. So even if I LOVE Cyndi, I couldn't rank her outside my bottom 10.
37. Edge of a Broken Heart (17): WTF? Are we really getting rid of anything that sounds rock -or remotely rock- in the bottom third? This has a great punch, with strong instrumental throughout the song, an anthemic chorus, and fierce vocals. Should've been higher!
36. Serious (35): Very Janet Jackson-like production, which I liked--but the melody especially in the chorus didn't go anywhere. This first listen created good expectations but then kinda disappointed

40. Fallen Angel - PoisonOne of the best from the glam metal era. It had that garage sound Glam rock guitars to it. This is actually one of the songs I love because of the lyrics. They tell the well known story of Hollywood Dreams gone sour. Always loved Brett Michael's Southern Tinted vocals and they really shine on this song. 39. Electric Youth - Debbie GibsonIf you are gonna rank a pop song way up there it should have been one of these wholesome dance pop numbers from Debbie Gibson. very NRGetic and fun with a bit of a Latin vibe to it. At least they knew how to dance back then. None of that disgusting twerking s**t. If I want that I go to the strip joints. 38. What's Going On - Cyndi Lauper A boring Cyndi Lauper song that I didn't even recall. Sounded almost like cover song. Way tooooooo mature sounding for me at that age and even now I don't find it as musically attractive as say the "True Colors" Pop ballad. "A big regression from "She Bop" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". 37. Edge of a Broken Heart - VixenNow this is just dumping on great music. Great riffs and Janet Gardner's vocals were sexy as hell. People can rag on Glam MEtal, but you can't deny that they knew how to make music with picture perfect hooks that fit together every time. Janet Gardner is still still actively producing music with her husband. Wanna check out her latest rocker? Go check out my weekly chart. 36. Serious - Donna AllenThis one was pretty cool. More or less where I think it should fall. KPWR used to play this one. When it came to dance music in late 80's I was more into Latin Freestyle. 35. Cuddly Toy (Feel for Me) - RoachfordI never heard this and this just felt odd. The song title looked like one for a Barney greatest hits compilation. ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) Those vocals did not fit with that music. The best part about this song were the guitar riffs, but even that couldn't save this odd musical combination. 34. Kisses on the Wind - Neneh Cherry This song was ok for club music. Way Better and more melodic than "Buffalo Girls" one and she looked way better too. 33. Get on Your Feet - Gloria EstefanA good danceable pop jam. Not as thrilling as "Conga", bit it has its moments in the chorus. 32. Silent Morning - NoelThis was always gonna be my crown song, because it's my favorite Freestyle jam on the 80's. Noel Pagan had those perfect kind of sad vocals that really went well with the dark mood of the song. Also much better in extended version because you get that magnifying percussion break down . I really wasn't expecting another #1 rank for this, but good for you for recognizing the best song on the RD. 31. Spy in the House of Love - Was (Not Was)A much better song that that Dinosaur thing they released. Also this one has a really enticing Sophitipop vibe. 30. Dominoes - Robbie NevilI liked this one for its exotic percussion sounds and good melody, but I was not sold on Robbie's vocals for this vibe. 29. The Edge of Heaven - Wham!So this is probably my last top 10 right. So were are all the George Michael fans? ![:-[](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/embarrassed.png) I only see three of us really stepping up here. This was always one of my favorite Wham songs. Back when synthpop was acquiring a bit of Motown vibe to the songs. I liked cuz it made them sound faster. George sounded really great on this one. His vocals really pushed the songs melody onward on a a strong harmonious level. 28. Dressed for Success - Roxette This one was pretty cool. Probably the closest they came to "The Look" part II. The chorus really saved the uninteresting melos in the verses. 27. All She Wants Is - Duran DuranNot the best for Duran Duran. I charted it and all that, but never found it melodically enticing. The chorus was just kind of spoken and almost whisper like. I liked Simon's vocals in the verses. 26. For Tonight - Nancy MartinezReally? This is way too low for a Latin Freestyle classic. Nancy started out singing Disco and worked her way onto Freestyle in the mid 80's. She had the Latin tinted tones for it. Another big hit for KPWR top 100 of that year. Catchy danceable club music with great percussion sounds, and I really love cowbell. BTW cowbell is one of the percussion sounds that my favorite genres have in common. Glam rock/hair/glam metal and Disco/Italo/Hi-Energy//Latin Freestyle/Eurobeat. I think that is one of the enticing elements that draws me to these genres. Plus it makes them sound faster. 25. Hanging on a Heart Attack - DeviceAnother favorite of mine that I'm glad we at least got to rank here. A big hit in the European continent. This band featured the lead singer of the corporate version of Animotion . He also sang on the Scarface soundtrack.24. I Should Be So Lucky - Kylie MinogueLOL x infinty at this not being one of her biggest hits. This was #1 all over the world and rightfully so, In fact The U.S chart was the only ones who couldn't be mesmerized by the wonderful melody and kept it below the top 20. Everyone else Top 5. A #24 for this melodic dancepop monster seems a bit comical. 23. Caught Up in the Rapture - Anita BakerThis is way too soccer mom sounding for me. I didn't recall it and I got some serious cheesy vibes. 22. Sweet Sixteen - Billy IdolNot a favorite of mine. Hopefully he is writing this song about his daughter other wise it wouldn't be fair to Winger's "Seventeen". 21. Twilight World - Swing Out SisterAnother odd song to rank over the top classics. She had one good song "Breakout" with pretty decent upbeat sophistipop vibe. This one was ok for that Sade vibe. Not too mature sounding, but I wasn't too familiar with it at all. Top 20. This RD is what I expected , but not a good turn out so far. I have one more top 10 left ,and we still yet to see uneventful songs from Prince, Tina Turner, Carly Simon, and a couple of ridiculous almost comical rap music travesties. At least LL Cool J is still in the mix.

Songs #15 and #14 were tied in points. The 2 songs both have the same highest 3 ranks so the 4th best rank determined the winner of the tiebreaker (10 vs. 12). The lone person who ranked this song bottom 10 will clear it here.

Winning the tiebreaker is an artist that never made a year-end top 100 list during the 1980s. Both of this song's bottom 10s were bottom 3s. 3 people will just miss out on a perfecto here.
