Stats to consider for #11:
Much like for "Alphabet St." this next song's lone top 5 ranking is a #1. Despite finishing so close to the top 10 this song was actually quite a bit away needing 22 more points to match the total of the song that finished at #10.
Best rankdown position: 2 Worst rankdown position: 13 Average position: 9.3 SD Rank: 16th lowest Ranking distribution: Top 10s: 3 11 to 20s: 7 21 to 30s: 2 31 to 40s: 4 Bottom 10s: 0

Wow my top ten took some major hits this set 😔 Overall though this top ten is pretty good!
Definitely surprised by some of these results, especially Alphabet St, I thought that would be an easy top ten lock.

Like a knife in the heart.... So close to the top 10, but alas no. The top 10 is pretty solid with exception of one song. I love OMD, but Dreaming is one of their weaker songs ever (We Love You is their worst, if you haven't heard that piece of drivel) And again, Dreaming over The Edge of Heaven??

Crush was a classic, hard to follow IMO.

Great top 10, especially considering my whole top 5 made it. Not sure what will win; "All The Love In The World" seems like a low SD candidate but it could just not have enough very high ranks to give it the points necessary. "One" might have the most top 5s but since it's metal that fact might have automatically drawn tanks; same with the rap songs. Maybe "Paradise"?

One is my vote for #1. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tina or The Outfield go all the way. Sade's song is far from her strongest. It's not bad, it's just the musical equivalent of a saltine cracker, IMO.
I heard Andrew Ridgeley is calling for a recount, BTW.

35. Cuddly Toy (29): Nice discovery. The chorus had a pretty solid melody and the instrumental had a mix of sophistipop and ZZ Top. I wasn't a big fan of the melody in the verses, though' 34. Kisses on the Wind (47): I like songs with Latin vibe, but this was a bit disappointing. The Casio instrumental sounded a bit cheap to me, and the mess in the bridge and post-chorus was silly, plus the chorus melody was much worse than that in the verses. Doesn't hold a candle to Buffalo Stance. 33. Get on Your Feet (25): This was a minor hit, that barely made the top 10 in my personal chart. It's catchy with strong Latin instrumental especially the bridge, but she's done MUCH better than this in terms of melody and instrumental. My favorite song this era was by far Oye Mi Canto 32. Silent Morning (30): I wasn't sure how to rank this first-listen. At some points I appreciated the Depeche Mode influence, while at other times the instrumental sounded like a failed attempt at recreating that sound but with a much cheaper sound. And again the chorus was weaker than the verse, so that didn't help with my final ranking. 31. Spy in the House of Love (23): Very nice discovery. Much better than the Dinosaur one. Solid sophistipop production (yes to brass!) and melody, with an effective key change. 30. Dominoes (26): I remember hearing this barely in the 80s, and I had forgotten about it. Another one with solid sophistipop vibe (especially the percussion) and pretty good lead and backing vocals. I like this production more than that of Spy, but the Spy's melody much more than this one. 29. The Edge of Heaven (7): WTF??? Another top 10 loss :( this was their last hit back home (Where Did Your Heart Go underperformed), and reached the top of my personal chart. I like the retro vibe in terms of melody, vocals and especially instrumental. Vibrant, catchy, melodically strong. What's not to like of it?? 28. Dressed for Success (5): !!!!!! This was a big hit back home, and has remained one of their biggest recurrent hit. It was their third personal chart-topper, too (a local pop station played Paint as their second single) and a song I still listen to once in a while. Solid pop tune, carried by Marie's strong vocals, and well supported by Per's guitars. The bridge and semi a-cappella chorus reprise are pretty good, too. Not sure what's going on in this RD now ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) 27. All She Wants Is (38): This was one of the few DD singles that didn't make my personal chart. I didn't care much for the almost inexistent, lazy melody... with time, I've appreciate the instrumental much more, but if I'd rather hear I Don't Want Your Love in a loop if I wanna get a doses of that type of instrumental. 26. For Tonight (14): Pffffff!!!!!!!!!! This is a JAM. Why is it in the bottom half? Can we start getting rid of monotonous, cheap hip-hop stuff instead? Anyway. This was a minor hit back home, but a big hit in my personal chart. And a song I still listen to often, especially when driving, especially in the extended version. I love the Latin - freestyle combo, with that salsa piano sound, her vocal attitude, and the different melodic hooks. 25. Hanging on a Heart Attack (20): Great discovery. Really like the sophistipop, elegant instrumental with some doses of guitars, as well as the strong melody and vocals throughout the song, including that chorus with solid backing vocals and falsetto. 24. I Should Be So Lucky (10): This was barely played in pop radio back then, but made my personal top 20, and has remained in my top 10 Kylie songs. Classic SAW sound, but with a slightly more mature sound than other productions by them. Plus, I liked the slightly unorthodox keys used in this song. And Kylie sounds great! 23. Caught Up in the Rapture (36): Nice discovery. It's a solid R&B tune, greatly sung by Anita. It's just not the type of tea I'd usually drink, so I couldn't rank it much higher. Still, appreciate its being this high as a good representative of the genre. 22. Sweet Sixteen (12): Solid ballad by Billy. It wasn't played back home unfortunately, and I discovered it a few years later. I love the more dreamy vibe and his sexy vocals. Nice melody and production. 21. Twilight World (25): I have a slight memory of this one, primarily thanks to the video played in one of our music TV shows. I didn’t like it enough back then to make it in my personal chart, even though I loved Breakout. It was a good rediscovery in this RD. Strong Latin flavor, instrumental, and vocals.

20. I Don't Want to Be a Hero - Johnny Hates JazzThis is such a fantastic sophistipop song. Sounded a bit like Wham! Some days i like it more than "Shattered Dreams". Glad it made the top 20. 19. I Don't Mind at All - Bourgeois TaggThis isn't a bad song. Aside from the Alt Rd we did I wasn't familiar with it back than. It's a bit simple in melody. Like Simple Plan or Goo Goo Dolls pop ballad, but I still like my pop ballads to sound more over the top. Take "Time Of My Life" from Green Day. A similar Guitar melody, but Billie Joe with that fake British Accent kinda takes it over the top, so It works better for me. get it? Over the top. 18. You Be Illin' - Run-D.M.C.At least it has a ridiculously fun vibe, not just ridiculous sound. I bet my life my LL. Cool J. fav here shows up before the other two rap travesties? 17. Be With You - The BanglesA nice single. Good bass chords, but not a fan of the blonde Bangle's vocals, so it's simply not the best the band has to offer, and I treated it as such. 16. Coming Around Again - Carly SimonThis one really did nothing for me. Too mellow ,and transparent, and it felt like she was holding back on her vocals. In my defense I'm not too familiar with her vocals so that just might be her style, which isn't my style. 15. Candy - CameoI thought most of you might have thought this was too cheesy or some other excuse to tank a good R&B jam, but I'm glad to be proven wrong. It's all in that hook. Another songs rips off samples this song's melody? Which one is that? 14. Going Back to Cali - LL Cool JHa! What did I tell. Do I know this crowd or what? ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) I always liked LL. Cool J's vocals tones, and the fact that he thought he was all that with the chicks. Shows he was full sure of himself. "I Need Love" was another good one to dedicate to your chick if she liked some rap music. This song is cool because it features some brass. Kinda like what the The Beastie Boys tried and epically failed at, but this will always be a jam. #14 isn't so bad honestly. 13. Love Will Save the Day - Whitney HoustonI like this one. She went back to her NRGetic early 80's dance pop. Much better than the sappy love ballads from The Bodyguard.12. Alphabet St. - PrinceThis song is ok. It sounds much more simpler than "1999", "Uptown" , "Controversy" so I couldn't do too much with it. 11. Mary's Prayer - Danny WilsonI've come across this song on some other Rd. It's passable, because I like the music, but I can't get into his vocals. Needs a little accent or something. Sounds like a big HOT AC or something you would hear on a religious music chart. Call me back when we rank Disturb's "Prayer".I Only Wanna Be With You - Samantha FoxI had to mention this one cuz I might have had to sacrifice "Yankee Rose" in my top 10 for it. I recognize the melody from a Luis Miguel pop song. Anyway, that's not why I like it. I like it cuz Samantha Fox is hot. I love her vocals, and this song is upbeat body twirling Hi-NRG. Noone can ever go wrong doing a Hi-NRG phase. I found that Luis Miguel jam. Not too bad right. very 80's. remind me to come back and give this one a Download/check. The Top 10. Company B - FascinatedDe La Soul - Me, Myself and I Metallica - One Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Dreaming Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two Sade - Paradise Simply Red - Money's Too Tight (To Mention) The Outfield - All the Love in the World Tina Turner - The Best That top 10 features my last top 10 remaining and a few others From my top 20....and as always is the case on these pop rds.... two of my tank dwellers.

Can't wait for the New Kids On The Block fan to describe one of the most vibrant, creative, influential, and enduring songs in the rap canon as """"tuneless"""" with a side of the classic catchphrase "not a hit back home"

I'm fascinated by Company B making it to the Top 5. I thought Top 10 was good enough.
