I'm listening to this now for the first time and I'm surprised at how much I'm liking it. "Almost" is on now and it's VERY Pieces of You with the sheen of Spirit.

Not sure why she performed Long Way 'Round but OK, Jewel does what she wants, so that's that. Cool that the Watson Twins sing backup on this. Also, I like what Butch Walker did here. What an eclectic producer. This is top tier Jewel, as far as albums go. If I rank albums:

1-7 are flawless, honestly. I still can't believe she followed up Pieces of You with...Spirit. I will never forget how excited I was for Spirit's release and then when it dropped when I was a freshman in college (which is the only time I have really played it, to be honest) and how disappointed I was when I heard it. Outside of Deep Water, Hands, the single version of Jupiter, Life Uncommon, and Absence of Fear...meh. Sweet and Wild just suffers from being unmemorable. It didn't need to be a double album. Perfectly Clear is better than I remember it being at the time, but it's still far from her best work. Lullaby is really nice for a children's album, but it's just not something I revisit, as a single guy with no children, despite loving Jewel's voice. 0304 has slid down in the rankings (I used to be OBSESSED with that album) but it's still stellar. I just think the albums above it have better execution. It's wild though, to me, that her debut remains her best. I don't know if I feel that way about any other artist. Oh...Monica, but yeah, it's rare. I can listen to her sing just about anything, though. Her voice remains one of the best in the business.

As for the songs on this album:

Almost (the reason I fell in love with this woman. what. a. song. not gonna lie, it made me wish the whole album was acoustic, like her debut. it also reminds me of Silent All These Years, melodically. while the guitar reminds me of You Were Meant For Me, it's like that song's polar opposite.)
When You Loved Me (this is a tie for first place, honestly. Both this and Almost ripped my soul of my body.)
No More Tears (one of her best songs and Darius better SANG!)
Alibis (this is a bop!)
Half Life
Love Wins
Dance Sing Laugh Love (when I saw the title, I was expecting Lizzo, but got something uplifting AND soulful!)
Living With Your Memory (I love her voice in this)
Dancing Slow (omg, Train was cut out of the CD version, not that I really miss Pat's voice, LOL, but I had to rewind because I thought something was different but couldn't figure out what it was. @ the booklet and back of the case saying "...featuring Train." I wonder if there was any last minute drama that caused Pat's vocals to be chopped off the CD version? Also, it's funny that in the booklet, it says "Lead Vocals: Train," as if Train was a person, LOL. Anyway, it's not mentioned anywhere online.)

I need more time with the album. I listened to half of it again this week and “Almost” is even better but rehearing “Alibi” I kind of don’t like the chorus, even though I love how 0304 the song over all sounds.

Also Ivy Leegue™ I agree with you about Spirit except it did grow on me …eventually, but it still pales in comparison to most of the rest. It’s definitely its own mood, but “Do You” is in Jewel’s overall top 5. (And “Down So Long” remains one of my favourite of her singles). I’m sad you ranked the This Way album fifth 😢.

Well, This Way is phenomenal and I remember being obsessed with it when it came out. It will always hold a special place in my heart but the albums above it hit me on a very emotional level.

If you wait too long to get the FW CD, they might add Train to it, LOL. I feel like that has been done before.

They remembered to change the booklet to feature Train but did not bother to change de song… well, good for us Jewel fans, hehe.

My most listened song is Nothing But Love. Those harmonies in the end are just gorgeous, it reminds me a bit of Life Uncommon with The New Wild West and some 0304. It’s just gorgeous. The album as a whole is pretty impressive. I prefere the upbeat songs, Almost and When you Loved me are soooo sad, I have to be in the mood for them, but the upbeats are top notch.

I wonder if this was released instead of 0304, how it would have been received. It has a lot of 0304 moments, but more organic and well balanced with what people expect from her.

I live for heartbreak Jewel, which is why Pieces Of You and Picking Up The Pieces are my top 2. I forgot about Nothing But Love, but put it at the bottom, just above Grateful and Long Way Round.
