I am so excited! It's the 25th anniversary of my first album, Pieces Of You, the album that changed my life forever. To celebrate, I’ve created a bunch of deluxe editions of the original album that will be available on November 20th. I also thought I would do something special. And something I've never done before, which is sing the entire album in sequence. Top to bottom.

Shockingly, I've never sung this album in its entirety, so I thought it would be really fun. Because we can't tour and in person shows right now due to the ‘Rona, i thought I’d do a 25th anniversary show for us all online. In some ways i think this is even better, because everyone all over the world can join! I will do this live show at the Sheridan Opera House because I want it to look good and not like a zoom call. (I could die w the zoom calls already) I am getting kind of artsy, designing a back drop that I am building and sewing together with my friends here. I am hiring a great production team to film it so it has multiple angles and so you feel like you're there... Steve Poltz is flying out and quarantining and going to perform with me! This means so much to me, as he has been in my musical life since I was 18, before I got signed. He played guitar in the studio for that album when I was too nervous to play for myself. We wrote songs and toured all over the world together. So I knew he needed to be part of this show. And I am working hard to learn all those damn alternate tunings and 6 minute long songs.... I may never do a show like this, of this album in its entirety again, so don't miss it.

About the vinyl and digital reissues- Alan and I put together the ultimate fan editions. Actually, some of it makes me cringe because my guitar playing is novice and my talking is .... a lot. But Alan said you would love it, so we are doing it! The deluxe editions of the album will include unreleased b-sides and rarities, demos and outtakes, live performances from the Inner Change & more. One even has a live set compiled of the nights Atlantic recorded the live show. This is the one that makes me cringe because every eighteen year-old thought that enters my head is recorded... its like having an awkward high school photo of yours come to life and talk for an hour. But, it's honest. See all the versions below.

What poster you ask? It's one of my original drawings from before I had my record made. It was a flyer I handed out to fans at the Inner Change, and so I am making a limited anniversary edition print available of it.

I am also working with dear sister Amy Yeung from Orenda Tribe on a new line of merch just for this, and I’m so excited to make this wearable art as an extension of my heart and songs. And I am doing a collaboration with a fan- More on that later!

f**k. YES. One of the GOAT singers and one of my all time favorite albums. I want the vinyl but I want all the extra stuff on the CD set. UGH! Also, it will be nice to get some of those rarities officially as I only have a bootleg cassette copy from 1998! I remember A Boy Needs A Bike and some other classics that later ending up on PUTP. YESSSSS to the concert too!

So I doubt I'd get the vinyl re-issue. But the 4-disc box set might be tempting. I've been looking for a good quality mix of the radio remix for Morning Song for years. But I also don't love this album the way I feel like I should. I'm more partial to This Way (and would absolutely get a This Way re-issue!) so we'll see. This still looks like a super cool package though!

I would absolutely LOVE it if This Way gets the same treatment! It's my favorite release by her and I go back to that album the most.

Very weird to claim to love Jewel but not like POY lol. The lyrics, the raw vocals...Spirit was such a weak follow-up and, other than Sweet & Wild, her weakest effort overall. When Spirit first dropped, I was like...how did she lose the magic that quickly? Fortunately, she went on to release much stronger material.

POY definitely has some gems, and while I appreciate the authenticity of the raw recording, it’s both a strength and a weakness for me, but songs like Angel Standing By, I’m Sensitive, and my two favourite album tracks: Little Sister and Near You Always, are among my favourites from her overall.

I agree that Spirit was a weak follow up. Contrast with POY, it was too polished and samey. I remember loving Life Uncommon though, but now it feels too spiritual and almost preachy to me. Do You remains that song though. It might be my most played Jewel track.

I listened to Goodbye Alice a few months ago and it was pleasant. 0304 I do like but the second half sinks it (except the final track).

I don’t really use much from her after that. This Way is ace from start to finish though.

EDIT: all this Jewel talk makes me want to revisit her albums again. I just read a (bad) biography on Sarah McLachlan and spent much of the last few weeks listening to her older stuff (except Afterglow. I save that for late November!)

I was baffled and turned off that she went into such a slick direction with Spirit, but she went even poppier and slicker in every release after. Picking Up The Pieces was a nice return to form.

Yeah, This Way was poppier but I think the production better matched the songs as they were more layered, and the country flair was what I loved most about it. Spirit was mostly made of folky songs with arrangements that didn’t need to sound that clean.

Loving this discussion! Yes, Spirit was very Patrick Leonard-ed. Jewel herself has said multiple times she ended up not liking the production on the album. I love This Way, I think it's the perfect balance for a Jewel studio album. After that, I like all her albums but I don't revisit them much... POY and This Way will always be my favorites. POY is pure magic and nostalgia, but if I were to take 1 song out it would be Adrian, but it has its charms.

Having said that, it's not my favorite Jewel album. That honor goes to This Way with Goodbye Alice In Wonderland a very close second.

Melissa Etheridge has announced that she will be joined by Jewel on the upcoming voyage of the Melissa Etheridge Cruise IV, setting sail fall 2021.

Aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship, the duo and their guests will hit the high seas from November 12th through 18th, 2021, sailing from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay, Ocho Rios, and Nassau. Yes, it's been a fun day! Lots of good hidden treasures here. I love the Morning Song remix, I wonder why they didn't try it after FG. I think it was released in Australia though. And yes, when everything was going wrong for the album, they re-recorded YWMFM (this Juan Patino version), shot a video directed by Sean Penn, but Jewel was not happy with it and they rerecorded the album version, which became the megahit we all know. It is slightly different from the normal album version (It's the "Album Edit", track #15 in the spotify list).

Perfect. Thank you for clarifying that! I like this version but love the album edit, one of my favorite songs she's ever recorded. Glad she stuck to her guns on that! I get my copy of the 4-disc edition in the mail and can't wait to read through the book. Currently on Race Car Driver.

It's the same version that was included on Now! 2 (in Canada, at least) back in 1997. I always liked how she sang the final chorus but found it odd that parts of the first two verses were cut.
