The sexist country radio that made Jesus, Remember, Cheats, Wasted, Small, Girl, Name, Dream, Told, Cowboy, Home, Undo, Mama's, Good, Blown, Cadillacs, See, Guns, Smoke, Heartbeat, Church, Laundry top 2? Women finding success doesn't disprove country radio having rather sexist agendas. Remember in 2018: Meant to Be was the longest reigning number one while artists like Kacey Musgraves are literally black-balled by the industry. For the longest time, outside of Carrie Underwood, the only women who got successful country hits were pop singers crossing over.

Twitter is making big noise because Twice, a kpop girl group, has a decent shot at charting this week. They only need 22 points. That would make them the fourth kpop group ever to chart on the Hot 100. As someone who lives in South Korea and hears K-POP everywhere, something like this happening would be really cool to see cause TWICE has been grinding hard here for almost the past 6 years.

How does he have a much thicker Southern accent when he sings than when he speaks? That's more a question for him than for me, don't you think?

How does he have a much thicker Southern accent when he sings than when he speaks? I feel like that's not an uncommon occurrence. There's a cultural expectation/pressure for country musicians to vocalize a certain way in their songs, but not as much for how they speak. Disparities between singing and talking accents is very frequent in rock, and lesser but noticeably often in rap too, for similar reasons.

"Old Town Road" being a country song with trap influences is no different than the plethora of bro-country songs that heavily borrowed from hip hop influences.
Don't want to extend the discussion any further- just giving my take on it.

Tell me, what is Kelsea Balleriniβs peak on the Hot 100 not including βThe Feelingβ? Peter Pan is currently her highest charting hit on the Hot 100. It peaked at #35 in 2016. Love Me Like You Mean It, Miss Me More, and This Feeling are her only other singles to crack the Top 50. She really has deserved much better. Considering 2020 has been much better for women in country than the last few years, I wouldn't be surprised if she started really breaking through soon. Hole In The Bottle seems to be doing well on country radio right now.

I'm pretty sure Inside Your Heaven is the most recent #1 song I have never heard. If a wasn't a chart stalker I'd never know it lol. I refuse to acknowledge a world in which there are people who never had Some Hearts on CD My mom bought that CD at Cracker Barrel and listened to it many times but I never remembered Inside Your Heaven! I remember loving "Wasted"

I also don't know why the more country sounding 'the other mix' wasn't promoted to country radio. I still think it could've been a success. I really liked the song.

the issue is, Billboard doesn't have set criteriaβ they let OTR reach #19 on Country before deciding it was too... "r&b/hip-hop" for it. if you know what I mean. THIS right here.
If it never charted on Country, it would have been "fine". Billboard has made so many bad decisions regarding genres, and this would be another one.
BUT they let it chart and when it was going big they decided it was not country enough.
Like at least try not to make it obvious.

That is why for this discussion I posted info about radio chart runs instead.
That is probably a better indicator about songs that are genre appropriate than a manual Billboard check

Really hope Jack Harlow has a sustainable career from here. The only notable white rappers that got big in the 2010s were Macklemore, Iggy Azalea, and G-Eazy, plus Machine Gun Kelly who's not even making rap music right now. UPDATE: forgot about bbno$, who I think is a bit of a guilty pleasure but I still think they're pretty funny. So Jack Harlow and bbno$, the only enjoyable mainstream white rappers right now.
