Milestone alert: "Let Me Love You" by Mario (#91) passed 500m on November 3.
Bubbling under: "Where is the Love?" by Black Eyed Peas is still riding a TikTok boost, and has risen from #106 to #105.
'Tis the Season: "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey (#30) re-entered Spotify's global 200 on November 1, and was still there on November 2. The next-highest Christmas song, "Last Christmas" by Wham! (#89) was on Spotify's US 200 both days, but has not yet re-entered globally.
Fleetwood's Back: The TikTok-spurred lift for the 70s rock legends is past its peak, but will likely continue to impact the rankings throughout November. As of November 3, "Dreams" is up to #85, "Go Your Own Way" is #127, and "The Chain" is #138.

”Dreams”-Watch 2020: Fleetwood Mac’s former #1 continues to climb the Pre-2010 list,; it’s now at #83 and could be two spots higher by tomorrow. How high can it go?
#1 with a bullet: All-time pre-2010 leader “Bohemian Rhapsody” continues to climb among all songs. It’s currently the #31 most-played song overall on Spotify, trailing Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” by a mere 2.3m plays. Lamar’s lead is shrinking daily — can “Rhapsody” get a notch higher this month?
Keep ‘Brenda’ in Christmas: After AIWFCIY (#30) and “Last Christmas” (#89), the next three biggest Christmas songs are post-2010 hits by Ariana Grande, Michael Buble, and Justin Bieber. After that, we have a handful of classics with slightly-more-than a snowman’s chance in hell of cracking the Pre-2010 Top 200 this year (but probably not the Top 100). I’ll be updating you on their progress. They’re “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams (278.8m), “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee (269.6m), and “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms (264.6m). Of the three, Brenda Lee’s hit is off to the best start for Christmas 2020.

It’s the climb... but it’s not ‘The Climb’: In celebration of a major obstacle to the rise of American fascism, Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” (#44) got an injection of new streams, even appearing in the Global Top 200 yesterday. It’ll need to sustain its elevated daily streams for several days to improve its ranking here.
Milestones!:
700m: “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey is the 29th pre-2010 song to cross the mark. “Without Me” by Eminem has fallen behind the holiday classic, but joins it as the 30th 700m-stream song from before 2010.
600m: “All Star” by Smash Mouth is the 50th song on our list to get to 600m.

Thanks for this! I'm happy that "Halo" is becoming Beyonce's signature ballad/midtempo but at the same time, I wish it was "Irreplaceable" instead.

400m: "SexyBack" by Justin Timberlake is the 80th song of the 2000s with more than 400 million streams. It's somewhere below #160 for all pre-2010 songs.
200m "Feliz Navidad" by José Feliciano is the 10th pre-2010 Christmas song (and the 13th Christmas song overall) to hit 200m. It won't be the last to pass a big milestone this season.

Interesting that the 7th biggest song wasn’t even pushed as a single, yet its probably more widely known than anything else off of what most people consider to be Em’s best album

Super impressive.

Wow, I didn't realize "I'm Yours" is still so huge.
There are only 2 songs by women in the entire top 30.

Lose Yourself is one of the biggest songs of the decade: - 4th most streamed song of the 2000s with over 1 BILLION streams (more than many 2010s singles) - over 1 BILLION views on YouTube (for a UNOFFICIAL version of the music video) - 3rd biggest digital hit from the 2000s (7.4M+ downloads) - 11 weeks airplay #1
The fact it's slaying streaming & digital despite not even being released when those times dominated

I was wondering about the songs with over a billion streams and what it translates to for RIAA certs.
Some songs had big digital single sales which helped with their RIAA cert.
In May 2013, the RIAA added streams and video views to RIAA single certs.
The RIAA used to certify "mastertones," but has changed those mastertones' certs to digital single certs. A few below may actually be for the mastertone.

Mr. Billionaire: The Killers' perennial karaoke favorite and UK chart mainstay "Mr. Brightside" is the fifth song from before 2010 to reach one billion Spotify streams.
Beatles vs. Roach: That age-old question, "Who's better? The Beatles or Papa Roach?" finally has a definitive answer, as "Here Comes the Sun" has caught up to and surpassed "Last Resort" in total streams. Further down the list, The Rolling Stones vs. James Blunt rages on.

TikTok Taste: "Yellow" by Coldplay is one of the latest pre-2010 songs to benefit from a TikTok trend. Young people are posting about the supposed loves of their lives and saying that person is their "yellow." Dumb trend, deserving song. The trend has carried "Yellow" past 700m streams. As a result, Coldplay joins Queen as the only artists with 4 or more pre-2010 songs with 700m or more streams.

So do we think Mariah is breaking 1 billion this year or no? I think it'll cross 900 easy I would bet money on her ending the year between 900M and 1B, but I also haven't done the math I probably should do to feel more confident about that

To the surprise of no one, the two Christmas songs in the top 100 of this list (in fact, they're the only ones in the top 200 as well) are continuing to rise.
"Last Christmas," which you can see above was #89 on October 30 and #73 on November 30, is now #61.
"All I Want for Christmas is You" was #30 on October 30, #24 on November 30, and is already #18.

3 more songs have crossed 500m:
- Paint It, Black - You Make My Dreams (Come True) - With or Without You
1 more song has crossed 600m:
- Eye of the Tiger
Finally, I'm expecting 2 ranking swaps in the upper reaches of the list in the next day or so... Stay tuned!

^^ That first rank switch has happened:
"Another One Bites the Dust" passes "Africa" to become #10 on the list. Both songs' totals round to 899.3 million.
This means Queen takes up an incredible 3 spots in the top 10!

^^ As you may have guessed, that second rank-switch in the top 10 turned out to be farther away than I expected.
In the meantime, our two Christmas songs continue flying up the leaderboard: Mariah's AIWFCIY is #16, and "Last Christmas" is #51. The next batch of pre-2010 Christmas songs is fast approaching the top 200.
Down at #100, "Stairway to Heaven" just crossed half a billion. #101, "Where is the Love," has been gunning for its spot for a while, having climbed from #108 in less than two months and still inching ever closer to #100.
In case you're wondering, I'm actively tracking all songs past the 400 million mark, and many more that are approaching it. I'm (fairly) confident I'm not missing any 400m+ songs — that list is 171 hits strong, most recently joined by Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger."

"Hips Don't Lie" crosses 700 million a few days.
It was Shakira's first song to get there, but was followed almost immediately by "Chantaje (ft. Maluma)" from 2017.
It's also only the third pre-2010 song by a solo woman to reach 700m streams. The others are AIWFCIY and Beyoncé's "Halo."
Speaking of "Halo," it was just surpassed by Linkin Park's "In the End," making the latter #12 on our list.
Finally, Christmas update:
#16. All I Want for Christmas is You, Mariah Carey #48. Last Christmas, Wham! #208. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Brenda Lee #213. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Andy Williams #219. Jingle Bell Rock, Bobby Helms

This thread is great, thanks for the data everyone.
However, I think that some of these songs have an advantage because they were hit songs when/after Spotify already launched. I know the userbase was small at the time, but it still gives them a significant advantage, especially because people added them to personal playlists, and Spotify's algorithm tends to favour songs you already listened to too. I still listen to playlists I made back in early 2012 (so I assume others do too), and I sometimes get Spotify autoplaying obscure songs with 20,000 listens that I listened to years ago, so obviously it remembers. I think it saves the ENTIRE listening history of a person, as unbelievable as it may sound. It definitely did in the past, because it used to have a "History" tab, which was the opposite of "Play Queue", where instead of listing the songs it will play in the future, it lists the ones played in the past, and I remember in 2014 or 2015 I scrolled all the way down the "History" list and it went back to the very beginning, back to the first song I ever listened to on Spotify 2/3 years before that. And obviously we are talking about a MASSIVE amount of songs! I don't see why Spotify wouldn't still keep the data today, even if they don't let the user access it anymore (or maybe they do, and I don't know how to see it).
I'm Yours, Don't Stop Believin' (it's from way before, but became a hit again in 2009/2010), Halo, Hey Soul Sister, Sex On Fire (released in 2008 iirc, but it was one of those songs that was a "current hit" for a couple of years, arguably Viva La Vida is a similar case too), and so on. Not saying they wouldn't be on the list at all, of course they would be, but if Spotify started in 2015, they would be a bit lower down.
Really, I think Wonderwall is the true #1 on this list, because I'm Yours was a current hit during Spotify's lifetime, and Bohemian Rhapsody had massive promotion from the film. Bohemian Rhapsody is a fantastic song though, I don't mind it being the top "old" song.

velaxti I see what you're saying about Bohemian Rhapsody: in a vacuum, "Wonderwall" is probably the top "old" song. Once you start picking things apart this way, though, where do you draw the line? What counts as a big enough "boost" to make a song a 'new' hit? How long after 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (the movie) should we start counting the streams again? And doesn't the fact that a big-budget Queen biopic was called 'Bohemian Rhapsody' speak to the song already being an iconic hit with staying power? And who's to say the other songs won't randomly find a massive resurgence? As for 2010 being too late a cut-off date, I think that's totally fair. It was a pretty arbitrary choice and selecting 2008 might have made for a more "fair" list. 2010 is just so clean, since it's the start of a decade. For what it's worth, "I'm Yours" continues to get more streams per day than comparably-sized hits from the mid-2010s, so I'd say its spot here is deserved.

Two more songs have passed 500 million, making them eligible for evergreen inclusion on the monthly update. They are:
104. “Basket Case” by Green Day 105. “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” by Elton John
^^ Both are their respective artists' most-streamed song.
Panic! In the Bubbling Under. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" has finally been knocked out of the top 100 by "Where is the Love" (Black Eyed Peas), which found its way into a Tik Tok trend several months ago and continues to perform above baseline.
WITL is BEP's #2 most-streamed song from before 2010, and #3 overall. They are now one of 14 artists with multiple appearances in the top 100.
