Considering its status of being a YouTube-only track, I'm surprised its performance stayed consistent; I sort of expected the #30 in Lost Hits to be a fluke 25 Modern Day Delilah Van Stephenson Year-End Placing: 84 Chart Peak: #9 Weeks on Chart: 11 797 points Standard Deviation: 22.10 craziaskowboi - 4 Doc Indie Party Rock - 5 Mirago - 19 thethirdcurry - 22 Butterflies & Hurricanes - 26 rowellfarm490 - 27 peacebone - 37 aerodynamite - 38 singingrulebritannia - 44 wheatsquares33 - 51 gonecountry - 71 Daryl the Beryl - 71 Performance history: Debut Movements: 34 45 32 45 36 39 30 31 26 24 25 Spectators: Red@humanshazam Juancawrip {Remaining songs} Van Halen - Panama The Cars - Drive The Cars - Magic Ratt - Round and Round Scandal - The Warrior John Waite - Missing You Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart The Cars - You Might Think Pretenders - Middle of the Road Genesis - That's All U2 - Pride (In the Name of Love) Rush - Distant Early Warning Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face Billy Idol - Rebel Yell Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again The Romantics - Talking in Your Sleep Billy Idol - Flesh for Fantasy Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now Prince - Let's Go Crazy The Icicle Works - Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)

Man, some of you seriously test my patience in hosting these rankdowns with these brainless rankings sometimes. How do you have any interest in 80s hard rock, and believe solo Ozzy at his peak made the worst song on this entire list? Even with how much I hate Van Halen, I didn't do any of their songs this dirty. Buck-wild in the most negative sense of the word. 23 Bark at the Moon Ozzy Osbourne Year-End Placing: #87 Chart Peak: #12 Weeks on Chart: 13 815 points Standard Deviation: 27.72 (20TH HIGHEST) peacebone - 7 singingrulebritannia - 11 rowellfarm490 - 12 Daryl the Beryl - 13 thethirdcurry - 21 Doc Indie Party Rock - 25 craziaskowboi - 27 wheatsquares33 - 33 aerodynamite - 35 Mirago - 39 Butterflies & Hurricanes - 74 gonecountry - 100 Performance history: #1 Active 1991 (No More Tears) | #16 Active 1986 (Shot in the Dark) | #24 Active 1992 (Mama, I'm Coming Home) | #27 Active 2001 (Gets Me Through) | #29 Active 1992 (Road to Nowhere) | #33 Active 2002 (Dreamer) | #38 Active 1996 (Perry Mason) | #41 Active 1998 (Back on Earth) | #46 Active 1993 (Changes [Live]) | #49 Active 1992 (Time after Time) | #51 Active 1996 (See You on the Other Side) | #52 Active 2011 (Let It Die) | #53 Active 2010 (Let Me Hear You Scream) | #56 Active 2010 (Life Won't Wait) | #58 Active 2007 (I Don't Wanna Stop) | #66 Active 2008 (Black Rain) | #88 Active 2007 (Not Going Away) | #89 Active 2005 (Mississippi Queen) Movements: 39 66 50 37 30 30 26 26 23 26 23 Spectators: Red@humanshazam Juancawrip {Remaining songs} Van Halen - Panama The Cars - Drive The Cars - Magic Ratt - Round and Round John Waite - Missing You Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart The Cars - You Might Think Pretenders - Middle of the Road Genesis - That's All U2 - Pride (In the Name of Love) Rush - Distant Early Warning Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face Billy Idol - Rebel Yell Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again The Romantics - Talking in Your Sleep Billy Idol - Flesh for Fantasy Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now Prince - Let's Go Crazy The Icicle Works - Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)

40. Time the Avenger - PretendersThis was a great sounding song. Loved the bass melody this one had. Pretty much run of the mill Pretenders, but I like them at their more recognizable. Her vocals sound just a tad on the disinterested side in singing, but only in the verses. The rest feels like a harder edged Bangles song right? This list was packed with electric guitar magic. I would put this song very high on some other random Rock Rd. that's for sure. 39. Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) - Phil CollinsLove this one. Phil has paid his dues on the rock formats with his Genesis band, so I boosted this Pop ballad into the 70's range, but I didn't think this was a song to showcase the Rock format at all. These pop ballad crossovers had really weird chart runs on the mainstream Rock chart as well. They went up and down the chart at alarming rate. Almost like if the chart wasn't really sure why they were charting this song. I got the same feeling. Great top 30 song for a HOT AC or Top 40 chart tho. 38. You Don't Believe - The Alan Parsons ProjectI didn't recall this one. not even on MTV. This one got tanked on my chart , because I really didn't have much reason to tank songs. I tanked them Mostly based on the acquaintance I had with it, or if the I thought the song had little business on mainstream Rock format. This song has a cool bassline, but really just goes around in circles in melody. I had to tank ten songs one way or the other, and this one was ready to be sacrificed. 37. Go Insane - Lindsey BuckinghamI charted this one too. Years later I found out he sang the tile track to my favorite comedy of all time. This song was catchy , but always felt the verses sounded incomplete giving it a simple vibe. I enjoyed the instrumental parts a lot more. 36. Are We Ourselves? - The FixxI love the Fixx on Modern or Mainstream. This isn't the best song to showcase their sound. Those are coming up soon, and I'll give better ranks to them. I promise. 35. Show Me - Pretenders This one is ok. This is that softer sound for them that I'm not too keen on. Actually I won't say anything because "Brass In Pocket" is my favorite and it's their poppiest as well. It's more that I was more into their first two albums ,and "Middle Of The Road" was the last one that wowed me. 34. New Moon on Monday - Duran DuranI have really been pissed at any Modern Rock list that keeps Duran Duran out, so I'm glad they score a top 40 hit here. The highpoint for Duran Duran for me is Simon Le Bon's vocals. They have a sort of crooning effix when he holds his notes, but it sounds terrific on him. This song is decent. Made my personal top 10, but I probably wouldn't have loved it so with some other vocals except Simon's. That's my story ,and I'm sticking with it. 33. What Is Love? - Howard Jones My favorite Howard Jones song and I found it impossible to get it into my top 50. 32. Deeper and Deeper - The FixxWasn't too familiar with this song at all. It's pretty good. The electric Guitars were the highlight for me. i needed more punch in the vocals. More ups and downs could have helped. 31. Jump - Van HalenUnless someone hates the band any vote below top 50 makes no sense. and I'm cutting a bit of slack for you bottom halveres. I'm guessing David is the low point of Van Halen would be fan. For me it's quite the opposite. David Lee Roth tied the band's sound together with Hard rock and Glam metal alike. Plus he was as charismatic as Paul Stanley when it came to a frontman. ON a final note this song is one huge melodic wonderjam. 30. Just a Job to Do - Genesis First off this song floors "That's All". Comon the groove in those guitars is such a bop. Easy makes my top half. I'm still saving my high ranks for 1982. 29. Union of the Snake - Duran DuranOne of their best. Right about this range is where my list really became electrified with guitar heaven. I would have put this one in my Modern Rock top 10. It's alright we still have all the Rio songs to rank ,and my favorite of all time which will be revealed in time. 28. Run Runaway - SladeBand that was around since the 70's decided it was time to take on the U.S charts after Quiet Riot made one of their songs a classic. I loved the guitars in this one. The strums are powerful, and actually gave the song the running vibe they were after . At times the melody can want to become a bit silly, but in a good way. 27. Cover Me - Bruce SpringsteenWe glossed over my favorite Bruce Springsteen song of all time last year, but this one is a close second. Love the intro and the grufness in his vocals. 26. Time After Time - Cyndi LauperThis song didn't have to be tanked on my list, and I wish it wouldn't have made this list at all. It's my second favorite Cyndi Lauper song of all time, but its a pop ballad, and had no business being here. Especially when all these bands have paid their dues ,and right to be on the format. Listen would you like "Cherry Pie" on your Modern Rock top 100. Hell no right? Who ever thought Cyndi Lauper was suitable for this format must have been related to her. Here is some food for thought. Why not Madonna with "Burning Up"? 25. Modern Day Delilah - Van StephensonThis was always going to be super high on my list. One whole month at #1 on my charts, and for once the highlight for me were the lyrics. I loved the comparison to the Simon and Delilah storyline. The song had all the ingredients I love in rock music. An epic intro, hard guitar strums right before the chorus, and Van Stephenson had some really great vocals as well. I actually followed him right to the 'My Secret Admirer' soundtrack for this "No Secrets" and I also charted "What The Big Girls Do" , and I have the album. No SecretsWhat The Big Girls Do24. The Warrior - ScandalThis one if you have no shame singing along to the female rock songs will really test your vocal highs. The power in her vocals is amazing. It goes with the whole theme of being a warrior, and knocking the walls down. It melodically falls together perfectly from verse to bridge to chorus. A real 80's AOR masterpiece. Glad to see it end up so high. 23. Bark at the Moon - Ozzy OsbourneThe fierceness level here is at a all time peak. The real Heavy Metal sound of early 80's was mean ,hard and loud. Just wait till we get to "Blizzard of Oz" . "Crazy Train" had an amazing long lasting chart run on that Billboard rock chart ,and I hope the YE top 100 reflects it....and . peacebone thank you for saying it for me. 22. Flesh for Fantasy - Billy IdolOh so now the Billy Idol over the top guitar sex song sounds good to you. hmmm.... ![O_o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/browraise.png) Anyway this means "Rebel Yell" slays which makes all the hits I've taken in the RD worth it. 21. Missing You - John WaiteI had to put at least one of them Pop crossovers ballad type jams in my top 10 ,and John Waite will always be the one. I have all The Babys ,and Bad English records. I just love his vocals way too much to miss the chance. I hope we get to rank Babys songs ,and "Change" which is originally for 1982. Me being the highest ranker for "Missing You" makes perfect sense. ****So we are into the top 20 in a Mainstream Rock Rd which means these two great songs "Hold Me Now", and "Here Comes The Rain" have outstayed their welcome. Prince can leave too. Also three Cars songs made the top 20. Now let's see how many make the top 10.

Extras:This Could Be the Right One - April WineI probably heard this one about two times. I remember it because it sort of ripped off .38 Special "If I'd Been The One". This is not a bad song, but pales in comparison to say "Enough Is Enough"Into the Fire - DokkenThis was Dokken's follow up ride to my top 10 after "Breakin The Chains". Loved the heavy Metal vibe it had in the chorus . The guitars in Metal always sounding spectacular, and LOL! ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) This sounds nothing like Enuff Z'Nuff. They were not even Metal. More powerpop Cheap Trick style. Bears - ZebraBelieve it or not a first time listen to me. never even seen this video. Ironically this is a song you could actually sorta compare to Enuff Z'Nuff. LOL! This is a pretty decent song. The highpoint of this band are the high octane vocals. Had a Dream (Sleeping With the Enemy) - Roger Hodgson I could actually chalk up my favorite Supertramp songs to two. This song is alright, but nothing I would search for. Reminds me of a certain ELO song that I also let slip by by choice. Cage of Freedom - Jon AndersonI'm pretty sure this guy is from Yes? I do kinda get a slight Moroder vibe in the bassline ,and atmosphere of the song, but the vocals are not a high point. Once again nothing to distinguish the chorus from the rest of the song. Reunited - The Greg Kihn BandWhat a total clusterF U C K. This sounds silly ,and stupid without any redeeming values save some guitar riffs which are not even that original. Young Thing, Wild Dreams (Rock Me) - Red RiderOnce upon a time a charted an awesome song by this band titled "Lunatic Fringe" than in the 90's "Life Is A Highway" without even knowing who Tom Cochrane was. 'nuff said. Stranger - Stephen StillsThese vocals do not wow me, but the song has a pretty cool Knight Rider soundtrack vibe to it. Loved the snth riffs. **Finishing up this set of extras with the rest of the extras I charted. Strung Out- Steve Perry This is the one I would have rather had instead of "She's Mine". Love the upbeat feel of this song. he guitar arrangements reminded of " Don't Fight It" with Kenny Loggins. The chorus here is sing along worthy. I'm Leaving You/ Big City Nights - ScorpionsI charted three Scorpions song that year. "Rock You...." was my favorite, but both this and this and "Big City Lights also made my top 30. I preferred this one for that everlasting chorus fade out, but at the same time loved "Big City Nights for the guitar riff intro. Both very powerful Metal jams. so I made one of my famous Double A side singles to chart both at the same time. Beat of a Heart- Scandal featuring Patty SmythCharted this one too. fells like it would have been the one for them to send to Modern Rock. It rides on a great paced bass melody. Also has a familiar Pat Benatar feel to it. Hands Tied - Scandal featuring Patty SmythI didn't recall charting this one, but I do recall seeing it on MTV a few times. feels like a slight Country vibe found its way into the song. It's pretty nice. Feels like a John Waite song doesn't it? RushThis album era for the band did nothing for me, but since I like this band I'll just say they were proper Album rock tracks and leave it at that. Back For More - RattOne of the more basic Ratt songs in melody, and still one of my favorites because of the dance groove Ratt music had. The high point is that intro which slowly introduces those power guitar strums. I charted this one too but just missed my top 10 at #11. Still loving Stephen Pearcy singing anything he can get a hold of. Rumours in the Air- Night RangerAnother great song from Midnight Madness. This one was not a single , but rather an album track KLOS would play around the same time "Sister Christian was out" This one has one of the most interesting intros with the use of the synths in the intro. They almost sound like violins, and return in the fade out. The style is AOR , but could have easily been on Rick Springfield's "Living In Oz" album. Jack Blades always solely in control of the vocals, and leading Jeff ,and Brad into their always anticipated duo guitar solos. In the end this one rose to my #7 position while "Sister Christian" held the #1 slot. Too Young to Fall in Love - Mötley CrüeMore Crüe post apocalyptic music video madness. I loved this band on this record. Their look was what I expected a motley crew to look like. The sound on this song was still a lot like the first album with the rawness of the guitar sounding loud , but never louder than Vince's vocals that was important in the 80's. Now a days not so much as it seems. Rock 'N' Roll Rebel - Ozzy OsbourneI have this album, but back then didn't get to chart this song. Sounds just as fierce as any Ozzy song, but misses that wild streak in the guitars. They sound a bit too conscious, and forced to stay in that melody. It's not a bad song, but I can hear why it missed. Peter Wolf: "Crazy" was a chaotic mess. I didn't like it at all, but I did recall charting "I Need You Tonight" for a couple of weeks. This song is melodic, but it sounds like Peter is struggling to keep his usual strong vocal tones down to meet this song's melody. That's kinda disappointing. No wonder I only charted it a few weeks. Stayed Awake All Night - KrokusKrokus putting their own spin on a BTO song and making sound like a Led Zeppelin song. You gotta love it for that aspect alone. Just listen to the mid break and tell me I'm wrong. Wanted Man - RattEasily the best song of the bunch for me. IN a way has become one of my top 3 Ratt songs ever. This song's power comes from the contrast of the music arrangements between the verses ,and Chorus, but what I love even more is Stephen's vocals tones stay in same key keeping the balance of the song in the Metal range. The guitar solo is awesome just like always , and the band also play an actual Rat Gang in the music video. I charted this one at the same time as "Lack Of Communication". I finally decided to combine the two making like a double A side single and taking both songs to top 10 status. I also have 'Out Of The Cellar' on vinyl, cassette ,and posters of the band ,and one big one of the album cover featuring Tawny Kitaen. How's that for stanning? or whatever you all call it.

23 Bark at the Moon Ozzy Osbourne gonecountry - 100 Okay, that was a (very) lazy ranking on my part. I will not tank Crazy Train. I did not tank Shot in the Dark, nor would I have tanked No More Tears had I participated in that year. Whitesnake is calling for vengeance though for it's shoddy treatment for Slow an' Easy. When Cyndi Lauper handily beats Whitesnake, the world aint right.

This is a really solid top 20! I'm very pleased that Ratt and the Scorpions were able to make it this far. "Panama" making the top 20 is also another pleasant surprise, well for me at least. Still it doesn't feel right for "Bark at the Moon" to have fallen short here.
I know that "Time After Time" doesn't really fit well with the mainstream rock format but I wasn't going to pass up the chance to rank one of my favorite songs from the decade in my top 10.
