I feel like Lorrie Morgan is one of the more underrated female artists of the '90s. There is just something so warm and welcoming in her voice... I always give Reba and Jo Dee credit for being insanely good at emoting no matter what the subject matter of a song is, but Lorrie is probably right behind them (albeit with a much smaller vocal range). She just has an interpretive ability that sucks you into the music and makes you feel it. It's a shame that her partying lifestyle caught up with her voice VERY quickly once she hit her 50s....

They seem to be determined to reschedule it rather than cancel, based on the fact that it's already been rescheduled like twice, lol. I'm going to get to see Lorrie for my 27th birthday when I'm 28 1/2!

Tracy Lawrence's string of hits is way more iconic than people usually give him credit for. His legacy seems to have been kinda damaged by some of his personal life stuff through the years, but his body of work really holds up well to this day! I'm excited to host a singles rankdown for him this year.

Tracy Lawrence was probably at the peak of his career sometime between 1993 and 1996 which would've coincided with the Alibis, I See It Now, and Time Marches On eras. I was always a fan back then but not an invested one (if that makes any sense). Alibis is certainly one of my favorite albums of his, especially "Can't Break It to My Heart" which I've just never been able to get enough of. I kind of cooled on him in 1994 if only because every time you turned on the radio one of his songs was playing lol. After the success of "Time Marches On", he was riding pretty high and radio was already eating up "Better Man, Better Off" and "How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye" from his next project. But, his personal demons finally caught up with him and sometime in late 1997 he was arrested for matters relating to domestic violence I believe. His career was never quite the same thereafter and while he did see some success again later on it never matched that of the '90s. I know that bboat11 has been hinting about doing a singles rankdown for him and it'd certainly be great to revisit his discography!

Also, is it weird to anybody else that Tracy is only 53 years old?? The man is literally the same age as the women from Little Big Town, and his career was over about the same time they got started He's the same age as Tim McGraw, who has like completely doubled his career in the time since Tracy fell into obscurity Theoretically he could be one of the men who is just now seeing his career start to wane, and yet he faded out alongside men who are 10 years older than him like Joe Diffie and Neal McCoy and Clint Black. I think of Tracy as being like a different generation of artist from what he actually was. It seemed like something like "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" was the final dying gasp of a 60-year-old man's career, a la "Give It All We Got Tonight", and yet Tracy was literally 39 years old when that song came out

It's unfortunate that Clint Black wasn't able to make it into the top 20, but I think that might have more to do with the fact that I don't think a lot of y'all are familiar with his early '90s work. Of all the artists to debut as the "Class of '89", Clint was certainly the biggest star of them right out of the gate. Clint was incredibly influential on me at a young age and I remember everyone always giving me his Killin' Time cassette tape as a birthday gift lol. I saw him once with my aunt in the summer of 1992 in Omaha, but I honestly really don't remember much of that show. Luckily, I finally got the chance to see him again about two years ago at a local venue close to the Austin area.
Clint will be the next artist I do a rankdown for and that is coming down the pipe very soon!

If Garth Brooks could kindly fuck off soon, then we'd be in excellent shape.

It should be noted that I'm the one in charge of reveals tonight. I finally got to go into the official account myself! Vince Gill has long been one of my favorites. I love the tone of his voice and aside from "The Heart Won't Lie" with Reba, "Go Rest High on That Mountain" has got to be my favorite from him. Definitely deserving of the Top 20 imo as he certainly defined the decade! (PS. I had meant to start these at 8pm, but wound up dozing off without meaning to and then getting dinner when I woke up (at 8:30). Then it took me a good while trying to figure out the format of revealing that lady𝓐fan set up for us lol. So I know I'm talking to a wall, but these next reveals have got to be done tonight so we can try and finish this tomorrow night!)

Vince Gill is a wonderful person and fantastic artist. I like his voice and several of his songs, and have the utmost respect for him!! That said, I couldn't rank him any higher than I did! I like him and his music, but this was a strong list IMO and there were many artists here who are way more consistent musically for me than Vince is.

You're gonna have to ignore that R next to Clay in his picture, lol. That's from his second album cover and I couldn't find any better quality picture of him from the 90s!

There was a span of time during the mid '90s that Vince Gill really got under my skin! Why you ask? Well, as a huge George Strait fan even back then I was so tired of seeing him winning awards every year...luckily things turned around in 1996, otherwise I might still dislike him to this day haha All jokes aside, Vince is an artist whose body of work I've grown to appreciate more with time. He's an incredibly talented musician and for those that don't know he's all but an honorary member of the band the Eagles. I might also add that he remains my favorite CMA host of all time.

I knew Garth was likely going to get tanked if for no other reason than the animosity he draws amongst the Pulse crowd. There's no denying that Garth Brooks was an early influence on me growing up and I admittedly was a huge fan as a young boy. I feel no shame in putting him in my top two.

I'm sorry, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity, lmao.
Since this was a rankdown where we were ranking artists based on 90s happenings and not present day, I did block the night of 11/13/19 from my mind and took my CU stan goggles off, I can assure you of that. Either way however, his impact on the decade and this genre can't be denied or overstated. Based on his 90s output, I couldn't just put him in the bottom 5 because he does have a couple of great songs from the 90s that I do happen to like. That said, I still just never have been a fan of him or his voice. Different sounds for different tractors, I guess!

Looking back, it's also quite possible that I became a country music fan at a young age in the first place because of Garth Brooks. So, because of him I ended up finding George Strait and the rest is history.

I have no time and very little respect for Garth Brooks to be completely honest. "The Thunder Rolls" is one of my favorite songs and he has some other good tunes, but to be frank I find him to be one big GIMMICK! And the fact that he makes his music SO inaccessible and that he's so pretentious and egotistical... ugh. Hard pass from me! He was an EASY last place.
