What a time it was to have been there when LeAnn debuted onto the scene with "Blue". She took the country world by storm and was an overnight sensation. I don't hold her in as high regard as some of my fellow peers here on Pulse do, but I certainly understand why she has quite the fanbase.
If I were to pick a favorite song of hers from the '90s (other than "One Way Ticket"), I'd without a doubt have to go with "On the Side of Angels".

LeAnn Rimes slays, at least she made top 20. Her voice is phenomenal and she has so many jams.

I first heard of LeAnn Rimes back in my childhood when she was making headlines for her affair with now husband Eddie Cibrian and when she was the center of a reality show with him. I watched that all the time and always knew she had been a singer, but didn't know it was her that sang "Blue" and "How Do I Live" (which were on constantly already at home as a kid), so I had no clue what else I'd been missing until I randomly ran across her 2016 cover of "The Story," from her 2016 album Remnants. After that I started hopping into her discography more and I wonder why she's not bigger right now on country radio. She's the same age as Carrie Underwood but has already faded into obscurity from the mainstream! In any case, as I said...I can't wait for June 4th! ;)

I hate to even admit this, but I was somewhat obsessed with this song when the Unchained Melody album came out. Now, not so much lol (but it's still a fun listen!).

Lee Ann Womack was already a country icon in the making when she debuted with “Never Again, Again”. It’s almost hard to believe it has been over twenty years since then, but there’s certainly something to be said about getting to experience the debut of an artist and seeing them have such a long and storied career. While I do think artists such as Clint Black, Vince Gill, and Clay Walker are more iconic for the decade we’re ranking, there’s no doubt that in those last three years of the ‘90s she had already established herself as one of the all-time greats.

It's crazy it has been like 20 years since Womack's last top 5 hit.
Shocked to see Garth Brooks not even top 15.
I love Deana Carter's debut album, but how is she still here?
Come on Patty Loveless!

You're gonna have to ignore that R next to Clay in his picture, lol. That's from his second album cover and I couldn't find any better quality picture of him from the 90s! Anyways, fixed! One of the only things I learned how to do in photoshop! 😋 I'm glad Clay made the top 20 and even my #14 for Garth feels a little low. I didn't get to participate in the Garth singles rankdown, but my top 20 would be STACKED with his songs from the '90s. People keep comparing Luke Combs to him but he felt even more massive than Luke does.

I echo the sentiment of how can Deana Carter be ranked so high? I like Deana and I ranked her respectably at #19. But Deana has 4 top 10 hits, 5 top 20 hits, and only 2 albums released in the 90's. In comparison, Mary Chapin Carpenter (ranked at 32 on this list) had 8 top 10 hits, 16 top 20 hits, 4 albums in the 90's (one quadruple platinum, one double platinum, one platinum, and one gold). Also she won the Grammy for Female Country Vocal Performance for 4 consecutive years from 92-95 plus the Grammy for Top Country Album in 95. 2 CMA Female Vocalist of the year wins in 92-93 and the ACM New Female Vocalist in 1990 and Top Female Vocalist in 1992. Yes i stan hard for MCC. But the data is pretty clear.

Lee Ann deserved top 10 due to the strength of her first two albums! "The Fool", "A Little Past Little Rock", "I'll Think Of A Reason Later", "You've Got To Talk To Me", "Never Again, Again", "I Keep Forgetting", "(Now You See Me) Now You Don't", and of course the release of "I Hope You Dance" was in September of 1999!
Garth Brooks should have been Top 10 if we are talking stats and why Deana doesn't deserve to be this high, and he's obviously not there, so...
Deana deserves to be this high. She may not have been hugely successful after her first album but that first album was a moment. That album, like Lee Ann's debut, was one of the first albums that really grabbed me at 11 years old and made me a huge fan of Country music. Also her second album may not have been super successful but I still love that album so she ranked high for me because of her impact for me personally.
That all being said I could see her, Terri Clark, Brooks & Dunn, Trisha Yearwood, and Pam Tillis miss the top 10. I'm really rooting for Martina, Patty, Jo Dee, Faith, Reba, George, and Alan the most to make the Top 10! Would love to see Pam and Deana surprise and make it!

Sorry but Deana Carter's voice and musical output absolutely earns her a spot in this top 15. She may not have had a prolific career outside of her debut album, but it's not from a lack of talent and even if her stats don't stack up as strong against some of those in this rankdown, she is absolutely one of the best country artists from the 90s. "Strawberry Wine" and her entire debut era's stretch of success for a couple years puts her on the same footing as artists who had middling success for a longer stretch imo. Stay mad.

As a child, I always heard "Strawberry Wine" and "We Danced Anyway," although the former was slightly more prevalent. It was just a song that was so ingrained into the scene that you knew what it was without even knowing what it was, if that makes any sense, lol. "Strawberry Wine" has such a timeless sound to it that brings me a weird pang of nostalgia and it's my favorite Deana song.

"Strawberry Wine" is an absolute classic, and her debut album is solid in general. I don't see where that should put her above Garth Brooks (not my favorite, but his success and influence is undeniable), Mary Chapin Carpenter (she released 2-3 genuinely great albums in the 90s), or Vince Gill (having said that, not sure how people count "When I Call Your Name" since the album was 1989 but the single hit in 1990). I also recognize it comes down to personal preference and people want to vote for their favorites. I was speaking more generally/objectively. I'd probably put Patty Loveless #1 on my list for this, even though I know others were more successful/influential. Full stop.

I love Deana's first album (I'm not putting the name 😂) and There's No Limit But my favorite is the Tom Petty Free Fallin' cover on the King of the Hill soundtrack.

Pam Tillis is another example of a song that I heard all the time in my childhood that was so prevalent that you knew what it was without knowing what it was, lmao. "Maybe It Was Memphis" is among my favorites from her.

Pam Tillis killed it in the 90s. "Maybe It Was Memphis" is a classic, and then Homeward Looking Angel and Sweetheart's Dance are great albums. She then had "All the Good Ones Are Gone" as well. Ugh, I miss 90s country!

I LOVE Terri Clark! "Better Things To Do," "When Boy Meets Girl," "If I Were You," and so many other great hits, not to mention the 2005 song "She Didn't Have Time" which is an all-time favorite of mine. I still can't believe we slighted her for inclusion in the overall Icons of Country RD but we don't talk about that lol

How many artists were on that list? No shade to Clark, but I wouldn't consider her an all-time icon of country music.

I had to give Jo Dee three Iconic Hit examples because all three of the songs highlighted are not only all among my favorites from her, but are also equally as big in signing her name for anyone who might not know her otherwise.
