Really think Billboard needs to relegate all the Christmas songs just to the Holiday charts. Think it's unfair to non-Christmas songs at this point. Not to mention, it's just looks weird that AIWFCIY, RATCT, and Jingle Bell Rock might take up yearly slots on the year-end list

I have a feeling this is the new norm... This chart year started out pretty normal, and then you have all these #1 debuts. Coming in at the top much more commonplace than ever before; hard to call it an achievement though it still is. Artists have the ability to drop songs whenever and fans will hop on it as they did with BTS. Christmas music will nearly be the entire top 50 come Christmas time We look to be heading that way at some point, which is why I think Billboard will change its rules at some point in the near future. I know, it's funny how we're coming full circle. There has to be a catalog rule similar to a recurrent.

And tbh all they do is clear out the songs that were clinging into the both of the top 25/50/100. Also yeah number one debuts ain't shit when all it takes is 20k dedicated fans to buy the song multiple times.

On the other it's just the same songs every year in almost the same order.

The number one song on iTunes at the moment is a country song called βDicked Down In Dallasβ π³ Aw man I just listened & hoped it was gay, no luck, still an iconic title In other news βpositionsβ & β34+35β would be #2 & #3 on Spotify without Christmas music, which is wildly impressive. I had no idea how stable the math song was, I assumed it was destabilizing because of βpovβ (which would be #13), but nope. Weβre into December and people are still streaming the shit out of Ariana Grande.

In a few years future recurrent rules will at least start preventing them from charting until they hit the top 25. As they get strict with rules on UGC, video streams, etc it will have an impact as well.

The odd thing about this rapid increase in Christmas music consumption is that the Halloween songs boost kind of plateaued the last 2 years. Take a look at Thriller, for example, whose 2019 peak came in below 2013 (the previous year when Halloween fell on a Thursday) and 2020 peak came in below 2015 (the previous year when Halloween fell on a Saturday).

Why the talk of wanting to discontinue website sales, when it was digital sales that overwhelmingly powered the sales of "Life Goes On"?
In any event, these are clear, legal transactions0 if people in the BTS Army want to help out other fans who may be cash-strapped, what's wrong wit that? It is the season of giving, after all. :)

Thanks to the Global 200 article, we know a more detailed breakdown: Main Storefront Digital Sales: 42.5k Direct-to-Consumer Digital Sales: 87k Direct-to-Consumer Physical Sales: 20.5k For the rule change people are advocating for, only about 28.3% of Life Goes Onβs sales would be chart-eligible.

When did the 2020s decade start for Billboard? I assume late December 2019 since their chart year usually ends late November. Is that still how it is? I haven't paid attention in so long. I ask because it would mean "AIWFCIY" already has 3 weeks at #1 for the 2020s decade. It should actually have started on the charts dated October 5, 2019. Because this is what was mentioned for the 2010s decade end Chart Beat article:
How We Charted the Decade: Billboard's decade-end recaps encompass chart performance from Dec. 5, 2009, through Sept. 28, 2019 (except for those for the Social 50, which began on Dec. 11, 2010, and Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Streaming Songs, each of which launched on Jan. 26, 2013).
