Curious, can you also see whether THE SCOTTS, Stuck With U, Rain On Me, Cardigan, Watermelon Sugar, and Savage Love would have debuted at or gone to #1 under this formula? (Iβd add Say So and Savage too, but both probably would have gone to #1 naturally anyway.) Sure. Here's the top 5 for most of those weeks (since this can get pretty time consuming). 2020 #1's would've looked like:- The Box - Blinding Lights - Toosie Slide - The Scotts - Say So - Gooba - Savage - Rockstar - WAP - Laugh Now Cry Later - Dynamite (only 1 week #1) - Mood - Positions - Stuck With U - Trollz - Rain On Me - Cardigan - Watermelon Sugar - Franchise- Savage Love- Life Goes OnOnly 3 out of 13 #1's would've spent less than 10 weeks top 10. Compared to: 5 #1's this year couldn't even spend 2 weeks top 10. I'm not sure if I would have been happy with Watermelon Sugar being blocked by ROCKSTAR, and Savage Love being blocked by Mood. WS and SL were legitimate #1 hits with considerable longevity, and don't belong on this list with the other crossed out songs.

I mean, they pretty plainly weren't the most popular songs on those weeks.

I could definitely see an argument for Savage Love, the song felt like it was everywhere by that point and probably wouldβve been number 1 with UGC counted, but Watermelon Sugar just had a well timed discount with Stan buying.

I disagree, and Savage Love probably would have been blocked by WAP, not Mood. Then again, I think GOOBA shouldn't have hit #1 in this scenario, but that's more for moral reasons than anything. I'm also willing to bet that if GOOBA had hit #1, it would have stuck around longer and made the YE (maybe TROLLZ too). So on some level, I'm kinda glad that whole debacle with Stuck With U happened, otherwise 6*x9*ne might still be getting hits.

I think they're more similar to top 5 hits with standard longevity (Dance Monkey, Roses, Intentions, Roxanne, Good as Hell) but in a year where half the #1's couldn't even have bare basic longevity, they look better yes. I wouldn't say Savage Love/Watermelon like those other top 5 hits named were ever the straight-up biggest song in a week. This is all complete opinion and subjective though.

I could see Katy Perry's Cozy Little Christmas eventually rising in profile in years to come it's looking to re-enter the Top 40 in the UK for the third year in a row so I can definitely see this become a thing. good for Katy Perry, whose actual lead single "Daisies" peaked at No. 37 this year.

I'm interested to know how the streams are that close. "AIWFCIY" is ahead on every platform I've seen. I know some of the leads (like Spotify) aren't huge, but YouTube alone should put "AIWFCIY" ahead by million, no? Maybe Brenda is stronger on Amazon, to make up the difference? I found out it's Pandora where "RATCT" is really killing it. Don't those streams ultimately count less, though, because they're programmed streams?

When Ariana or Kelly start actually competiting with Mariah for Number one and Katy eventually moves it way up the chart, more pop girls will start making original Christmas music I feel

Christmas songs will probably the new attempt to remain relevant after dwindling success. As you launch even a minorly successful song in the Christmas canon, you'll be somewhat relevant for a while.
