Interesting that most non-holiday songs got green updates, while the holiday ones got red ones.

I think I've read a few times before that Christmas songs tend to peak over the weekend, and fall back down the rest of the week.

rime- they also sold the digital single on the website? I don't visit the BTS site too often, so I wouldn't know in that regard. :) In any event, my point still stands, in regard to it not really being "manipulation."
lazer- streaming was becoming such a dominant force, that Billboard didn't want it to be the metric that totally rules the chart. Airplay and sales have always been part of the mix to some degree, so they should not be pushed to the sidelines, even if the numbers don't compared to streaming. Most tracks are still available for digital purchase (not like what the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart became, when few big hits were commercially released). Also, all acts are free to have physical singles available for purchase on their website or wherever. For the ones that do, it's more about marketing than manipulation.
I also reiterate that Billboard was right to do away with that buy-the-physical-single-get-an-instant-download tactic, when the physical single wouldn't ship for weeks or months from that point. That is not comparable to what's being discussed in this thread.

When did the 2020s decade start for Billboard? I assume late December 2019 since their chart year usually ends late November. Is that still how it is? I haven't paid attention in so long. I ask because it would mean "AIWFCIY" already has 3 weeks at #1 for the 2020s decade. It should actually have started on the charts dated October 5, 2019. Because this is what was mentioned for the 2010s decade end Chart Beat article: How We Charted the Decade: Billboard's decade-end recaps encompass chart performance from Dec. 5, 2009, through Sept. 28, 2019 (except for those for the Social 50, which began on Dec. 11, 2010, and Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Streaming Songs, each of which launched on Jan. 26, 2013).
Oh wow. I assume the 2019 chart year didn't end, though? Maybe they did that because it takes longer to compile and release the decade chart. If it did start with the 10/5/19 chart, then all of the chart run of "AIWFCIY" last year will count.

I think I've read a few times before that Christmas songs tend to peak over the weekend, and fall back down the rest of the week. Correct. Holiday music usually makes a big jump post-Thanksgiving and that weekend, but in general it peaks on weekends with holiday parties and the like. I also assume it's people playing holiday music while they decorate, clean, etc. Baby Yoda Hot100Fan

Fun to watch Pulse complain about a song being #1 due to chart manipulation and then advocating for chart manipulation to prevent Christmas songs from charting when they're clearly more popular. So are you saying before the Billboard Hot 100 started including Christmas music, the chart was fraudulent and manipulated? Isnβt that like 60 years of manipulated charts? Does this mean we need to go back to every Christmas from past decades and include Christmas song to get an accurate reflection of what the most popular songs were that week? That could even mean an interrupted #1 streak for songs like βOne Sweet Dayβ and βI Will Always Love Youβ which ruled over the holiday season. Would they have fell off had Christmas music been counted then? Thatβs a scenario where Mariah probably wouldβve never had 16 weeks at #1. Sorry to tell you, the answer isnβt as easy as it seems. Both sides of the argument have valid points. The fact that Billboard can randomly alter their rules whenever they want has really been problematic in this process. Yβall are talking about in 10 years how many weeks will AIWFCIY have at #1, but who the hell knows what random new rule Billboard will impose to alter this process. Maybe they will introduce a recurrent rule? Or do away with Christmas songs once again. Thereβs just no telling what this problematic chart will do next, and while itβs all based on βpublic consumption,β the public has no say in how the metrics are compiled.

We could also see another change in trends. Holiday music mostly does well because of streaming. At some point maybe that will change. It should be noted that if Billboard gives less weight to radio/sales and limits the amount of sales that count, that will help holiday songs even more.

Not as bizarre as acting like Christmas music has only been around since the Hot 100 started counting it a few years ago.

Not as bizarre as acting like Christmas music has only been around since the Hot 100 started counting it a few years ago. And who is doing that? Well I mean you pretty much did just that. Why has Billboard been allowed to ignore Christmas music for decades but now itβs βchart manipulationβ if they ignored it? I swear sometimes you chart snobs think you know it all. You canβt fathom another perspective. Most of you here are only here to look out for your favorite pop diva anyway, so your perspectives are blinded by bias.

Why the talk of wanting to discontinue website sales, when it was digital sales that overwhelmingly powered the sales of "Life Goes On"? In any event, these are clear, legal transactions0 if people in the BTS Army want to help out other fans who may be cash-strapped, what's wrong wit that? It is the season of giving, after all. "You get a BTS song. You get a BTS song. Everybody gets a BTS song."

#1 on iTunes means like 8 people bought the song, right? Trey Lewis probably shopped it around his immediate family.

Yeah that Trey Lewis song has been viral on tiktok for at least a couple weeks, could be huge. It's a country song that most people seem to like, even if they don't normally like country. Not to mention the massive meme factor the song boasts
