- Willow 4 versions are discounted again to $0.48. - 3 extra bundle versions are released, limited till chart week end. - Albums are discounted for both Evermore($6.89)/Folklore deluxe($5.51). - All discounts are last till chart week end. @ times, Machine gun Kelly's $20 stickers, candles & tapes , Miley's $20 condom bundle, Tyler the creator's $40 t-shirt pin + digital bundle. DJ khalid $52 dollar shorts & hats, $70 dollar energy drink bundles were considered chart manipulation. Also I've newfound respect to kpop bands like superM who were selling bundles @ $25-70 π€£π€£. These rookies need to be schooled in how to manipulate within rules & look clean

Just heard juice Wrld x Benny blanco-Real s**t, this song justifies the title, its absolute S-H-I-T. I really hope it gets out of the chart soon π¬. Btw his posthumous releases (incl creepy animation) are cringy & don't even start abt the quality & essence of the records, sounds like cheap knock-offs. Hope his management put some time, real effort & work instead of rushing releases just to milk his death. We don't want his legacy fkd up like that of X

Really hope willow hits #1 so this thread can have a meltdown. well it's at less than 50 cents for an unit, so there isn't any cheaper single out there...

I donβt get why some of yβall have a problem with artists wanting chart achievements and #1s. Hell, yβall know Mariah loves and lives for her records and #1s. When you are great and youβre used to greatness, it is validation that youβre doing your job well according to public perception and response. Itβs like an athlete wanting to win a championship and/or get into the record books. Some artists want to make their mark on the industry. Why does this bother some of yβall so much... sheβs not killing kittens, sheβs trying to cement her legacy. Exactly, and no shade to Mariah but she isn't exactly the role model for not using tactics to further chart success. www.nytimes.com/1996/01/25/arts/are-pop-charts-manipulated.htmlIn the end, no one will care if Willow was discounted to 40 cents for the #1. Does anyone remember the Missy remix of Last Friday Night, or the fact that she discounted it to 69 cents? No, the only thing that remains in history books is that Katy tied Michael Jackson. And life goes on. IIRC Last Friday Night actually miraculously managed to hit #1 the week before the remix/discount. Your point still stands, I just wanted to point that out.

I'm just going to leave my opinion on this: I love Taylor Swift, but she's going too far this time, to the point it reeks of desperation (either from her or from her team). The song would have debuted at #2 without all the remixes, which is already a testament to the genuine hype she gets. I don't see why they feel the need to push it so hard for #1. Yeah, I know the song is not super radio-friendly and this week is her best shot, but still, wouldn't it be better to not throw your cards all at once and instead gradually introduce the new remixes to regain interest in the song over the course of its chart run?
I'm a firm believer that longevity >>>> peaks, and it's disappointing so many artists seem to think otherwise, fueled by what stans believe as well. "Blinding Lights" debuted at #11 and free-fell in the following weeks, but it gradually rose to become one of the biggest charting hits of all time. "Circles" and "Sunflower" had pretty subpar debuts too (#8 and #9), but their increasingly strong performance on radio and streaming made them eventually reach #1.
While I understand artists want their craft to be recognized, I still think it must be more rewarding when such recognition and success comes organically, because you have faith in the track. When Justin Bieber acted desperate to push "Yummy" to #1, it came across less as wanting a good song to do well, but more as completely lack of faith that the public would resonate with it, if you get what I mean.
That's just my take on it, of course. My apologies for my stream of consciousness-esque writing.

#1 debuts should feel massive - "thank u, next", "Born This Way", "Shake It Off", and "WAP" were all pop culture moments that caught the attention of both passionate music listeners/stans and the general public.
The majority of #1 debuts this year felt like fabricating this type of hype and momentum by taking advantage of stans' endless devotion. Of course, there are exceptions - "cardigan", "Dynamite", and "THE SCOTTS" were moments in their own right, even if mostly due to the context surrounding them than the songs themselves (Taylor's surprise release and change in direction, an all-English release from kpop's most popular group, Travis' Fortnite concert + Kid Cudi).

I guess Drake isn't as chart hungry as Swift. Laugh Now is one of the biggest hits of the year and he missed the #1 for 20 points. It was really close to WAP.

I guess Drake isn't as chart hungry as Swift. This has been evidenced time and time again by his team making very strange decisions that hinder him from peaking higher over and over again. The biggest example being "Hotline Bling" where the video was an Apple exclusive or something bizarre like that when if it were just released normally, it easily would have been #1 that week lol.

Because Drake knows he could sneeze on a baby on a track and it would debut at number one regardless

Yeah and because of that an iconic hit like Hotline Bling had to peak at #2 when in reality it was easily the biggest song of the week. He really sabotaged himself that time.

I think on some level, every mainstream artist cares about success. I'm not going to sit here and say Drake doesn't care at all. I just think he isn't willing to go to certain lengths to achieve certain chart milestones. His mentality when it comes to his music has always been "release the music and let it do what it'll do." Since the week Laugh Now Cry Later dropped, he hasn't posted about it or referenced it in any way. It's almost like he forgot the song exists and he does that for all his singles. He believes a lot in the fans themselves choosing how successful his songs and albums are by leaving it all in their hands. I think that's one of the best ways to guide a career, especially for someone like him who has achieved so much in so little time. Rest in Peace to Mac Miller's gentle soul, but he explains it best.

An artist releasing multiple versions/mixes of a song is hardly "manipulation." Fans are buying the main product (in this case, digital tracks/singles) and getting it instantly. It's manipulating fans.

Did they forget to count all of the numerous remixes? Anyway, still one more day left to count but it is an "early" projection. Why isn't Amazon streaming data not been made public by now? Do the labels only get the information privately? How do people who do projections on the net estimate streaming numbers if they don't have the Amazon streaming stats? For On-Demand Audio Streams you have the Rolling Stone Chart, which updates numbers every day with projections.
Also you have the Alpha Data (former Buzzangle) which gives you only positions for the top 50 on: Audio streaming, Video streaming, programed, and Song Sales (only from DSPs - so without website sales). atm Fri-Mon Audio streaming only (AM+Spotify+Amazon+..) AIWFCIY is #1, while willow is #3. It should update through the day to Fri-Tue. *A lot of predictors say that the early position numbers aren't that accurate, but the final week positions are* **btw Alpha Data powers HITS Daily Double & Rolling Stone Chart**
ofc you can get Video streaming/programed streaming from YouTube charts/Pandora.
The website sales are estimates. In other cases like BTS, there is order numbers, so they just estimate how many copies each order had (based on previous cases). And there isn't such number on the TS website, or there is but it also includes albums so it is meaningless. idk
Anyways i saw on Discord that the person used 6k website sales for his prediction.
I don't know much about predictions and stuff, but this is how they do it.
P.S: Apple Music also doesn't publish data and is bigger than Amazon Music 50/52 weeks in the year. Amazon shines these 2 weeks

It seems a little desperate but very cunning to be making this push against Mariah. Taylor knew how to get peak exposure with these tactics. Letβs face it. Mariah gave the girls a blueprint on how to work the charts π©πβΊοΈ If Mariah were somehow able to stay number one next week, this forum will explode. Lol

f**k, Blinding Lights down to #23. It has a chance of being gone during the week of Christmas. I would be DEVASTATED. We will be streaming Abel tonight, folks I'll believe it when I see it. Blinding Lights was predicted to be #13/14 the two weeks prior, and it ended up at 9 and 11. Besides, BL is probably going to be #1 on the 2/20/2021 chart, after its performance in Super Bowl LV.

Could be, jeng- but that would be nothing new in the chart game, would it?
I've mentioned Sony's widespread trends of deep discounted singles in the past- a number just happened to occur with many Mariah C. singles. The label was more invested in playing the chart game than others- nothing wrong in that, really. That continued with "Loverboy" when she moved to Virgin (which Sony countered by selling "Bootylicious" for 49 cents, as well). On Island, recall the week free downloads of the "We Belong Together" remix accidentally counted for the first week of the single's No. 1 reign (only affecting the first week of said run). My personal favorite was the show-your-download-receipt, win-a-chance-to-have-dinner-with-Mariah promotion for "Shake It Off." :)
Just some examples of marketing, and playing the chart game. What we're seeing with BTS, Taylor, etc. is just the latest examples in the current chart cliamte.

Doesn't Taylor currently tie with Madonna for most #2 songs? I wonder if potentially breaking that tie is part of the reason she and her team are pulling these stunts. As for whether it's right. This is one of those cases of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Sure what's she's doing is not technically wrong but it feels like she's crossed some sort of line or broken some sort of unspoken rule. Personally, I don't mind if an artist/label discounts a song or throws out a remix (or two) during a week where the song has a real shot at #1. Giving a song a nudge isn't a big deal to me. But what she is doing is well past that point. Although at this point, even if I don't agree with what she's doing, I sort of understand why she keeps going. If she had just released one remix, discounted at $0.69 and was blocked from #1 by the biggest Christmas song in modern times, she could of still held her head high. But again, she's past that point and she/her team are probably just trying to save face at this point. I haven't followed Taylor in a while, but I have to say her wanting this #1 so badly is quite surprising. Sure, every mainstream artist cares about the charts up to a certain extent but I always got the impression that her/her team's focus was more about maximizing profit than song peaks. Back then, they seemed to care more about selling as many albums as possible rather than whether her singles hit #1. For example, I believe "I Knew You Were Trouble" missed out on any chance at #1 because the album (and thus the song) wasn't immediately available on streaming. In that instance, they cared more about selling albums than getting more streams because the former garnered more profit. But currently, as a poster had pointed out earlier, she's "discounting her discount". It's not something I'd thought Taylor would ever do, but again, haven't followed her closely in a while. Wonder what caused this change in mentality?

Is #1 locked for willow? It's on top of Spotify & Apple Music the whole week and huge on radio right now. Its sales has huge advantage on the remixes...

Mariah is still outstreaming her according to Rolling Stone: www.rollingstone.com/charts/songs/Amazon Music is more relevant than Spotify and Apple Music this time of year.
