Still waiting for Britney Spears' "My Only Wish (This Year)" to chart on Spotify. I'm surprised *NSYNC got more traction for their holiday track. That doesn't surprise me at all actually. *NSYNC fandom keeps to themselves mostly but they are still extremely passionate (waiting for the reunion that never comes will do that to you I guess), and especially when it comes to Home For Christmas; many of them even say that is their favorite of *NSYNC's albums. It's a shame the guys themselves don't seem to have even an ounce of interest in doing something for MCHH or licensing it out for commercial use or something, because it probably wouldn't be that hard for them to turn it into a moderate staple. The fans alone are carrying that song.

In that case, despacito and i’m the one back in 2017 as well Im sure so many people were listening to those songs cuz they had Bieber on them lol. I’m the one was obviously all Bieber, go take a look at chance the rappers and quavos top 10 hits and see what they both have in common. Despacito only blew up in America because of Bieber and the remix has more streams on Spotify than the original without a mv and the remix went diamond. Let me love you and cold water was obviously all Bieber too, no offence to the lead artist on that song

Could a song ever achieve a #1-OUT on the Hot 100, or is that virtually impossible? Surely there’d be some levels of sales or streams that could keep a song on the charts for a second week even if it were REALLY low. Maybe a song that re-enters at #1 due to an artist's death. Imagine Mariah does it with with either We Belong Together/Hero, Madonna with either LAV/LAP/Vogue, Celine with MHWGO, Britney with BOMT. (Pray God, they are immortal) Definitely possible for 1 (re entry) to OUT. But timing of the artist's death is very important to make sure maximum points at no.1.

^ iirc “I Will Always Love You” could’ve challenged for #1 if she died at a different time
God, writing this out feels disrespectful but I really do love Whitney so much
Also, I feel it’s unfair to discount the claim that “Despacito” blew up due to a Latin music explosion. Yeah, Bieber was the catalyst for the song’s success, but I’ve noticed a lot more Latin songs charting since - see Bad Bunny, Karol G, Sech, Farruko & J Balvin, among others.

That’s fine but Despacito was falling until the Beiber remix.

That’s fine but Despacito was falling until the Beiber remix. That's absolutely not true. At worst, Despacito may have been stagnant in the weeks leading up to the remix. In my honest opinion, it was already a worldwide smash even before the remix, rising ever so slightly, and on the verge of a breakout. But in any case, it was never falling at any time before the Bieber remix. My guess is that without the remix, Wild Thoughts may have snuck out a week at #1, but Despacito still makes it to #1 anyway. Remember, the charts were weak towards the end of Despacito's run (before LWYMMD came out), and the original Despacito overtook the remix version during the final weeks at #1.

I’d like to know where it was at pre Beiber. My recollection is that it was either climbing maybe 1-2 spots or stalling. Definitely wasn’t a breakout song in America until Bieber joined. Then it blew up.

7,716,516 streams for AIWFCIY on Global Spotify
Last year it was 5,916,368.
The 12M record from last year will be surpassed by quite a lot.

I’d like to know where it was at pre Beiber. My recollection is that it was either climbing maybe 1-2 spots or stalling. Definitely wasn’t a breakout song in America until Bieber joined. Then it blew up. It peaked at number 44 on the Hot 100 on April 22 2017, and then began falling down the chart, before the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber. "Despacito" then reached number one on the Hot 100 on the week ending May 27, 2017. That said, prior to the remix, “Despacito” was already a worldwide smash-hit. It had already hit number one in virtually every European country, bar the U.K, as well as in South America. It was also number one in New Zealand prior to the remix and top twenty in Australia. It was also top twenty in Canada and was the first Spanish-language to song to ever crossover into East Asia, reaching the top forty in South-Korea after exposure from BTS. The remix simply aided it and exposed it to double-digit weeks at number one in most these countries/territories. “Despacito” would have still become one of the biggest international songs ever even if it flopped or underperformed in the U.S, similar to “Asereje (The Ketchup Song)”, “Waka Waka (This Time For África)” and even “Hung Up” and “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” etc. GLOBAL >

maybe she goes #50 the week after xmas... With one day of streaming and one day of airplay? "AIWFCIY" still gets some streaming the day after Christmas as has been mentioned, but it will not have airplay. Remember the airplay week is Monday-Sunday. So, for the chart week after "AIWFCIY" is #1, it won't have any airplay.

"My Only Wish (This Year)" by Britney Spears FINALLY charted on Spotify.
Sure, only at #191, but America's slowly but surely taking baby steps to turn this into the Christmas classic it deserves to be. 🥰

I‘m so happy about the performances of the Jackson 5 Christmas classics. It’s my personal favorite holiday album.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this here, but Lil Durk released his album The Voice overnight and its tracks are currently invading AM. So we could be seeing a double album bomb of some sort between him and Playboi Carti for the week of 1/9, all while the Christmas music exits.

Is Lil Durk a big deal tho? Outside of the Drake collab I've never heard about him, but admittedly that could just be me.
Dropping a day before the tracking week ends is pretty dumb though.
