There is already too much alt refugees there. Plus, all of Cage's and TBK's singles last era went top 5 on AAA at least. (well, Skin and Bones hasn't reached there yet, but it's only a matter of time) Word wallΒ But Tom specifically mentioned Cage and TBK so I assume he was referring to those. But to add on, while not achieving the same success as on alt, some of those bands (Foals and Saint Motel in particular) achieved success on AAA as well. Even "The Middle" and "Lazy Eye" among others get a lot of AAA recurrent airplay among the commercial leaning AAAs. The AAA I follow plays other Jimmy tracks such as My Best Theory and Big Casino too. The only one of those artists I could see them not touching AAA is NBT, and their last single sucked. (Or rather, was subpar) Yes, alt should still play those bands. But most of them wouldn't be out of place of AAA too.

There will always be hybrid stations. The real question is which panel do these stations get assigned to? I suppose AAA/Alt hybrids eventually become AAA reporters & Alt/Active hybrids will become Active reporters. I am happy to hear about Entcomβs poor ratings, which means they will be forced to change. Iβm guessing some of these more pop leaning stations may eventually end up moving to the CHR panel

I'm not talking about artists like Of Monsters And Men, Foo Fighters, Cage, or Black Keys who've all been on AAA for a long time. I'm talking about Jimmy Eat World, Grouplove, Foals, Nothing But Thieves, Saint Motel, Silversun Pickups, you know, pure alt-rock artists who are in precarious positions on their home format. what But seriously, though, things change. Times change. It wasn't long ago that Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd were charting big hits on Alt. I'm sure that Cage the Elephant and Silversun Pickups will never find themselves at a point where they're fighting for scraps.

Iβm guessing some of these more pop leaning stations may eventually end up moving to the CHR panel It's quite possible that the pendulum swings the other way. Many of the highest-performing Alternatives right now are Active-leaners (KPNT, WBUZ, WXDX, KTBZ, etc.) plus AAA-leaning XTRA. It's plausible that we will see rock revive on Alternative in a big way in the 2020s - though I still think alt-soul will be a big thing too. But I think alt-soul and rock revival can co-exist with the traditional indie rock core of Alternative much like trip-hop (and successor big beat) co-existed with grunge/post-grunge and indie in the 90's.Β I don't think this means we'll see the return of the likes of Shinedown, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, etc. to the format (though Shinedown will probably be charting regularly in the event of rock revival because they've managed to maintain a presence on Alt unlike many of their peers). I think rock revival is going to sound dirtier and fuse old and new sounds together. Royal Blood, Bakar, Black Pumas, The Pretty Reckless, The Black Keys, and Michael Kiwanuka sharing a format together is going to sound pretty diverse and cool, IMO.Β I hope that's what we get instead of a conversion to a full-blown pop format.Β

They don't fit on Active without changing their sound (or Active becoming more indie-friendly), so AAA is the only other place they can go. Imagine those artists and three, four times more that I didn't mention, veteran and newbie, all flooding AAA in the next couple of years if Alt becomes a pop format. It's going to be a nightmare for everyone. But that is what could wind up happening in the next couple of years. We'll see. My guess is that a lot of those artists will indeed end up getting absorbed by AAA (it's already started happening really), but it will probably be at the expense of a lot of the more traditional, less Alt-friendly AAA fare.

With 18 lists already in, how about some stats? - 13 songs have at least one #1, but only six songs have a last-place ranking. - 53 songs have at least one top 10, and 44 have received a bottom 10. 11 songs have both. - One song has been ranked top 50 by all 18 participants, while one appears in everyone's bottom 20. - Three songs have been in last place so far. The bottom two are separated by six points, and they are also the two lowest standard deviations. - Conversely, the song with the highest standard deviation is currently sitting at 77th. - The highest song that has spent time in the bottom 10 is the aforementioned song at 77th, and the lowest song that has been top 10 is down to 37th. - Only two songs have spent every movement in the top 10, compared with six songs that have yet to escape the bottom 10. A reminder that there are three weeks left to submit. Let me know if you'd like to be tagged (of course, you don't need to be tagged to submit) or untagged.

There was nothing in this one that I absolutely love, which is rare to find on a year-end Alt rankdown. I guess that there were more songs that I found legit really bad than in any other. A lot of stuff that I could take or leave.
Unfortunately, this could be my least favorite Alt year-end rankdown that we've ever done as there were times where I really didn't want to continue. Thankfully, there were a small number of songs that I kept pushing through as I knew they were coming up eventually.
Here are how my rankings shaped out below:
4/5: #1-12 3.5/5: #13-34 3/5: #35-75 2.5/5: #76-92 2/5: #93-96 1.5/5: #97-100

I feel like being different so I wonβt be using numbers. Instead, Iβll be using descriptor words. Numbers donβt really let me gauge how someone feels tbh. I should stop using them when I review songs. Anyway, these descriptors are basically how I ordered my list.
#1-10: Great, the best of the year #11-32: Pretty good, I wouldnβt mind these doing well here #33-59: Good, but I couldnβt really justify calling them pretty good lol #60-73: Tolerable, almost meh but they still have some enjoyability #74-87: Meh, songs I donβt care about at all #88-94: Bad, but I can kind of see how they can appeal to others #95-100: Really bad, and they make me wonder how people could create such sacrilege to music

Just sent my list.
It could just be me being way less picky or something, but I really like this list of songs. I would probably say I at least like everything in my top 61-ish.

Since the last update weβve received 12 more lists, which brings us to 30 lists; enough for another ballot update! - 19 songs have been ranked #1 at least once, while 9 songs have been ranked last. - Hereβs a fun stat: 64 songs have at least one top 10, while 64 songs *also* have at least one bottom 10. - Only 2 songs have been ranked *top 60* by all 30 participants, having no bottom 40 ranks. Similarly, only 2 songs have no top 40 ranks, with one of those having no ranks in the top 50. - No new song has been last since the previous reminder, but the bottom 2 have switched a couple of times, with only 16 points separating them currently. - The three highest SDs are currently placed at #94, #19, and #57. The three lowest are currently at #100, #84, and #80. - While there still are 2 songs that have placed in the top 10 with every movement, there are only 5 songs that have remained in the bottom 10 (1 less since the last reminder). - The lowest song that has been in the top 10 at some point is now at #41, and the highest song that has been in the bottom 10 is now at #78. There are two weeks left to submit! Let us know if you'd like to be tagged/untagged.

Working on this right now in chunks of 20 (it's easier for me than sitting down and ranking all 100 songs at one time), and I'm surprised at the number of songs in the first set of 20 alone that I actually knew. I of course knew Billie since I love her music already, but I'm pleasantly surprised at already knowing songs like "Level of Concern," "Black Madonna," "Bad Decisions," and "Life in the City" going into this.
Everything else, for the most part, is a discovery, and I am LOVING the music thus far. I'm finding lots of new favorites! :)
