On AT40 this week, we took a look at the 40 biggest hits of 2020! This year is majority about the COVID pandemic which inspired songs (sad, uplifting or silly) like Alicia Keys' "Underdog", twenty one pilots' "Level Of Concern" and Avenue Beat's "F2020" and messages on the show by artist like Selena Gomez, Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, DJ Khaled (those three that was used the same message the most during it), etc The highest debut of the year going to "Yummy" by Justin Bieber which debuted at #21 but peaked outside the top 10 at #12 and fell out after only 6 weeks The biggest mover of 2020 belongs Halsey's "You should be sad". She moved up 15 from #39 to #24 back on February 8th... But it also was the biggest exit of the year as it left AT40 from #14 after 13 weeks spent on May 2nd (peaking at #13), tying the biggest dropoff in the Seacrest era with "IDGAF", "Motivation" and "In My Feelings"The slowest song to reach the top this year was Lewis Capaldi's "Before You Go" as it took 35 weeks (An AT40 record), previous record holder was benny blanco, Halsey and Khalid with "Eastside" last year when it took 33 weeks to get to #1 The artist that had the most hits this year was Justin Bieber ... he charted with 7 hits [ "10,000 Hours (with Dan + Shay)", "Yummy", "Intentions (with Quavo)", "Stuck With U (with Ariana Grande)", "Holy (with Chance The Rapper)", "Lonely (with benny blanco)" and "Monster (with Shawn Mendes)"] The longest-running hit was Post Malone's "Circles" as it spent 57 weeks on AT40 dating back to Sept 2019, including 7 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on three seperate runs, tying the AT40 record it holds with "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd (more on him later) and "Le Freak" by Chic
And the Top 3 songs of 2020 are, *drumroll* Coming in at #3 is Dua Lipa's biggest hit of her career so far "Don't Start Now", which spent 47 weeks, including 5 weeks at #1 At # 2 is "Circles" by Post Malone (as mentioned earlier) spent 57 weeks on AT40, including 7 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on three runs And the king of 2020 is The Weeknd as "Blinding Lights" spent (as we speak) 48 weeks on AT40, including 5 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on three runs AMERICAN TOP 40 Top 40 of 2020 - December 26, 2020

Assuming AT40 continues to do what they've been doing for the past several years, then they'll be using the published Mediabase chart for their year-end rankings. Unless they decide to change things up, this year, for whatever reason.

Extras: Daisies; Stuck With U; cardigan; Underdog; OK Not To Be OK; You should be sad; Rain On Me; Where Is The Love Rewind: Party In The USA Optionals: In Your Eyes; Level of Concern; Diamonds; Moral of the Story I’m surprised to see Where is the Love from the Black Eyed Peas on the extras list instead of Mamacita which was a 2020 hit. Also looks like we’ll be tortured with Underdog again lol

Shameless plug of New Years Rockin Eve show that Ryan Seacrest host now that was founded by Dick Clark, thus the snippet of Clark filling in for Casey one week ... since we party during a normal New Year Eve, and Miley Cyrus is going be one of the guests, Party In The USA makes sense as the rewind

Look like Ryan will not be playing the number 1 song of last year, like he does at the end of every year. He keeps playing Halsey's other songs instead of Without Me,which was the number 1 song of 2019

For the last 10 years AT40 has played the same top 40 year end chart back to back in consecutive weeks, but the two airings each had different extras.

Why is Seacrest talking about Casey being his idol, when he has ruined his show? What kind of year-end show is this, when he is not even able to announce all songs in top 40, even to tell us about how special each artist and song was which reached top 40 or what kind of records they broke like Casey did. I hate Seacrest way of AT40 and have done it since 2004 when he took over. Why AT40 become such a big show with Casey hosting it - because he made it like it was something special and huge, Casey put his heart in it, what is Seacrest doing? There is no hard work or heart in his shows, it is all a big mess, where artists and songs are not even important. Go away Ryan Seacrest - you do not honor neither Casey or AT40, please please go away!

Seacrest made AT40 more like his counterparts JoJo Wright and (i gotta say in a way) Rick Dees with lengthy interviews ... the stats and stories aren't there much anymore... those who don't like Ryan, there's always classic Casey on the Classic AT40 channel on iHeartRadio app to listen the true way of counting backwards

Go away Ryan Seacrest - you do not honor neither Casey or AT40, please please go away! Harsh but true While I prefer Casey's format, Ryan seems to have plenty of "heart" and enthusiasm for the show, and he and others work hard at putting it together. You can argue that he's spread himself too thin with other projects and correctly note that this is only one of many things he does, but Casey had a lot of other hosting and other duties as well. While Casey's devotion to the show was particularly unique--he co-created it, after all--there can only be one of him and he couldn't host it forever. As for the changes, I think this is barking up the wrong tree. Premiere Networks and others probably decide on the format so that it sounds compatible with current CHR radio presentation, which in many ways have changed from the 1970s or 80s, or maybe even 90s. Ryan doesn't personally dictate the presentation or production, and probably has only a limited say in such matters.

How is Surfaces ahead of Surf Mesa? And how is Mood with 6 weeks to end the year not in the Top 40 of the year? Does not make any sense
And the year end top 40 should have been played last week and this week because the first week of 2021 will still be the top 40 of 2020 instead of the usual initial week of the next year countdown

I do have to say that the top 4 of 2020 are all very strong songs and superior to the #1 of 2019 (“Without Me”) in my opinion.

One historical inaccuracy I should point out: Ryan stated that Dick Clark, in 1972, was AT40’s first ever guest host. In fact Dave Hull, a popular Los Angeles disk jockey who died just last month, was Casey’s first ever substitute, on November 6, 1971, several months before Clark hosted it (March 25, 1972). Sirius XM 70s on 7 in fact replayed Hull’s show last month.
As mentioned above, Ryan used the Dick Clark intro to plug New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, which Clark started and Seacrest carries on each year. That led into the “Party In the USA” Rewind extra.

^ Dick Clark died in 2012. Each New Year's Eve, more and more people are probably wondering who he is.
