Ava never made it to #1 on the Mediabase CHR version. She did on HOT AC, though. I can see Ariana getting #1 this week.

I believe the purpose of this show is to count down the top 40 records of the week, and play each one in succession, identifying each one before and after they are played.  And it shouldn't be interrupted by anything else that is not related to those 40 songs.  It's ok with me if new ones, that are headed for the top 40, are played before number 40 is played.  But once the countdown begins, it should not be interrupted by anything else.  I also hate commercial interruptions, but that's the nature of this free enterprise, capitalist country, so I guess we have to put up with it. 

     If there was a show that counted down the presidents, in order, from George Washington to Donald Trump, would it be ok to interrupt that sequence with Johnny Carson, or Justin Bieber?   Or if there was a show to teach you the sequence of the alphabet from A to Z, would it be ok to throw in some numbers in that sequence?  If there was a show about the ten tallest men in the world, would it be ok to refer to a man five foot eleven among them?  Of course not.  Then why is it ok, when you are counting down the top 40 records of the week, to interrupt that over and over again with music from 2, 3,4, and 5 years ago?  If you want to hear that, why don't you just listen to a radio station.   This show is supposed to be about order, but it's going against it's own purpose by interrupting itself.  Am I making any sense here?

     This world is slowly going more and more out of order, and so is this show.

i fail to see how bringing up singers in an order of presidents or bringing up numbers in the alphabet is any relevant to an argument about songs being played during the show? of course bringing up justin bieber in an order of presidents is absolutely ridiculous because bieber has never been a president. extras are previous at40 hits and yes that would make sense because previous at40 hits are throwbacks.

there's also the point that this is music, a form of entertainment. i highly doubt that anyone would be entertained if someone were to create a countdown of all the US presidents in order.

and also the fact that i've said this thousands upon thousands of times, but i'll say it again. HEARING ALMOST THE EXACT SAME SET OF 40 SONGS EVERY FUCKING WEEK IS SO BORING

like, seriously, take a debutless week where the biggest mover is like 3 spots and the biggest faller is like 2 spots. the chart literally did not change. would you rather hear these songs over and over and over again?

i'm gonna say this straight up: i'm enjoying less songs on the actual chart than ever before. in fact, on this week's chart, looking at this week alone, there are only 22 songs here that i like. the extras here are sometimes the only reason i'm able to sit through the show, because more often than not the extras i find better than the songs on the actual chart. there's a reason i talk about my favorite extras every week. i understand that this might be just my music taste, but i still feel like mentioning it to show that extras are not completely useless

and to end this all off: sometimes i literally feel that you guys only come into this thread to complain, complain, COMPLAIN and it's getting very annoying. i understand that this might be your opinion but  if you guys seem to only come here to complain, then what even is the point of posting here?

like at least momzquotes actually shows some energy and enthusiasm in the show by asking about whether the extras and breakouts are here.

and why i post in these threads? because whether i like all 40 songs or hate all 40 of them, i've always been fascinated by charts and have been excited to look at how the 40 songs stack up.

sorry for the essay but i needed to vent some of my frustration about some of these threads

Yeah some of the complaints are silly when we think about the fact that radio stations would be unlikely to play the show without the extras because station playlists have gotten so restrictive in the last 10-20-30 years. I’d say if you have anything to complain about, complain about that. Even Ryan as host, as much as I don’t like his style, it’s likely because without those celebrity interviews and all the other non-chart stuff, people wouldn’t be as likely to listen to just a chart counted down. I much prefer Casey Kasem’s style but I also acknowledge that it was pretty dry. I liked it because I tuned into it. For someone casually listening to it, it probably wasn’t particularly entertaining.

I see that our disagreement is about what the purpose of this show is, not about the quality of the show. You see this show as having a different purpose than I see it. In your purpose, you are right, I agree with you. I am not complaining about the quality of this show. I am complaining that this show is not living up to what I believe is it's purpose.
