Why are we giving Dr. Luke another hit? ๐คฎ On a better note - Nicole Scherzingerโs full discography is on US Spotify now. Does anyone know what other catalogs have been updated today? "We" are not "giving" Dr. Luke anything. Tell that to the artists who keep working with him, not the people who keep supporting the songs said artists release. Most fans don't even read writing/production credits to see that he's worked on some of their favorite songs and is still getting work today.

Really hope the album release is enough to save 7 Summers from getting caught between years. I still don't know why radio hasn't dropped More Than My Hometown for 7 Summers, This is sort of the same situation with Maren Morris. The Bones is still getting tons of recurrent airplay, which has completely swallowed up her current single, "To Hell & Back".

Itโs not like only one party can be attributed to Dr. Luke gaining recognition again.

I think it's a bit more complicated when it comes to a producer like Dr. Luke, since your average GP listener probably has no idea who produced the track, or doesn't care to look it up. I agree with thegreatdivine that artists who are willingly working him with like Saweetie, The Kid LAROI, and DaBaby should definitely be called out, but I agree the public and fans can also be attributed to Dr. Luke gaining recognition again. The issue, of course, is that unlike Chris Brown or 6ix9ine, a Dr. Luke-produced song isn't tainted with his persona, since he's not the one behind the mike. So I understand why some feel less reluctant to stream a song produced by him, especially when they primarily want to support up-and-coming talented artists like Doja Cat. That's just my take on it, of course.

Now this Morgan Wallen is starting to climb up the charts on iTunes, Wasted on You and Sand in My Boots both passed MTMH at 11 and 14 respectively.

This Morgan Wallen album made me forget that Zayn released two songs, Vibez is a good song too bad it won't probably won't be a commercial success in the US.

Guess Zayn's time as a-list artist is over. Curr. Single tanking both iTunes & AM(not even charting). Last single charted @81 on hot100 but this won't even make an entry. May god save his album ๐

Why are the Spotify streams in other countries so low compared to the US? In the US the highest streams are usually 1-2M whereas the highest in other countries are 20-30K.

Itโs not like only one party can be attributed to Dr. Luke gaining recognition again. Most of us aren't going to research the writers and producers of every song we hear, that's just reality. If I become aware of a certain person working on a song I might then change my relationship with it, but it's just unrealistic to except the general public to research. Hell, the general public doesn't even know about the issues with Dr Luke. I do blame the artists in this instance.

The U.S. population is higher than most countries (#3 overall), so that would be a big part of it. Why would anyone expect the UK to have as many streams as the US?

Out of the next few countries by population, many eithet don't have Spotify (China, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan) or are significantly poorer snd thus have a higher proportion of the population using YouTube (India, Indonesia). Then we have Brazil, which occasionally has 1m plus songs, Russia, which just recently got Spotify, and Mexico, which is the second largest market (the number one almost always has over a million, and this winter Dakiti outstreamed US number ones).

Add to this. Some countries have there own services and in others YouTube is still no. 1 source for music online. For eg. Gaana.com in India reported 185M monthly active users. Other audio streaming service (Saavn) has 104M active users. For comparison, Spotify reported 320M user WW. And still, YouTube is miles ahead of all them in India.

I just checked and it turns out Dakiti has 57k streams for my own country. Since the US has about 20 times more population than mine, that would equivalent to more than 1 million. Now, the reason most people on my country don't use Spotify is that most people have internet access via their phones and most of those are prepaid. The prepaid plans generally don't include data that unlimited Spotify streaming. My guess is that Spotify users in my country either have internet access at home or work. And those who don't use it there, probably have cellular phone plans that are under contract and have a healthy amount of monthly wireless internet.

I don't know a thing about country radio, I was talking the pop radio where MTMH is still getting spins but if it's getting spins on country radio that's perfectly fine with me. I don't think neither MTMH or 7S have been pushed to pop radio. If either one is getting any spins, it's stations playing it on their own. I think 7 Summers could work at pop radio if they wanted something from the album to crossover. Gary Trust said 7 Summers was being promoted to pop radio in August, and it got 13 adds on September 1st. It never got an adds date and I don't think it went under Cool New Music either, though.

Maybe our streaming consumption is becoming more spread out. I don't think anyone has delivered a monster hit yet this year, and people don't seem to be in a rush to stream the current hits. This could change, specially if Drake does drop this month.

I will also add that whenever you stream "Praying" by Kesha, you're giving him money. That realization made me reconsider things; I would rather support Kesha, Kim Petras (one of the biggest trans artists in the mainstream) and Doja Cat (who signed with Dr. Luke's label in 2012) over cancelling the latter two for working with that rat. We can only hope the music industry gets rid of him someday.

The average listener doesn't even know about the Dr. Luke thing anymore, let alone the fact that he co-wrote "Say So".
Ultimately if you like the songs, I say enjoy the music. The industry clearly has moved on (Grammy nominations, credits on the latest albums by Juice WRLD, DaBaby, Doja and even Lil Wayne), and while I agree with the sentiment of not supporting him, (and I was saddened by his Grammy nods), let's be real: the man is already rich and residual royalties from his dozens of previous hits will keep him that way. "Party in the U.S.A." charts every year on Spotify and iTunes, for example.

At least this means we can clear away some songs that have been around for too long and/or shouldnโt have come back post-Christmas. (Also, side note: Morgan occupies the entire top 9 on Canadaโs AM.)
