2. The Pleasure Principle - Janet Jackson

Janet's sixth single from Control was her fifth soul charttopper, and gave her the distinction of being the first artist to pull 5 #1 soul hits from an album. Written and produced by Monte Moir, it also topped the dance chart and reached the Top 20 of the Hot 100.

The music video is considered highly influential, inspiring artists like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez and winning an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography. It also clearly inspired the music video for Cassie's 2006 hit "Me & U".

1. Control - Janet Jackson

The title track from Janet's 1986 album became her third #1 soul hit and fourth straight Top 5 hit on the Hot 100. The lyrics speak of her seeking independence, wanting to make her own choices. It's on the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame's list of 500 songs that helped shape rock & roll music.

The music video featured a reunion of sorts. Ja'Net DuBois played Janet's mother in the video- the two had previously worked together on Good Times as Willona and Penny, respectively. The video also won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Or Rap Music Video.

"Pleasure Principle" has always been one of my least favorites out of her popular uptempos. I still really like it though.
I kind of didn't think it was so big with others either... I thought the video made more of an impact than the actual song.

LOL.I could barely make it through one listen of this atrocity. I never heard this anywhere when I was a kid, thank God. Don't Disturb This Groove was almost right above it. I don't know why I ranked it so high because I don't like it at all.
